Litha
Litha is just around the corner!
Litha is the Summer Solstice, and is also called Midsummer(’s Day)
Litha is, of course, a celebration of Summer.
A really easy, subtle way to celebrate is by lying in the sunshine.
My favourite way to celebrate is wearing the associated colours. Great for broom closeted witches!
Litha’s colours are
yellow
gold
green
orange
red
Basically just Summer-y, warm colours!
If you wanted to try reaching out to a sun deity, now could be a perfect time, since Litha is so closely associated with the sun. Do your research before working with deities
Litha is the longest day of the year, so it’s perfect for making sun water
Have a wonderful Midsummer’s Eve wherever you are.
Maid Miru was inspired by Midsummer’s Day to create these delicate rosette dumplings. How are you enjoying your Midsummer’s Day?
Estonian Midsummer's Eve Gothic
It's raining. It's always raining. Someone remembers a year when it wasn't raining. They argue with ten other people over which year it was.
There's someone grilling sausages. There's another person grilling sausages. Everyone is grilling sausages. Someone is offering you potato salad.
There are mosquitoes trying to drink your blood. You spray mosquito repellent on yourself. Now there are more mosquitoes trying to drink your blood.
You are drinking beer. Your friends are drinking beer. Your neighbour's ten-year-old child is drinking kvass. Uncle Jaan is offering everyone vodka.
The pile of stuff to burn is a metre high. Now it's two. Now it's five metres high. Someone tries to jump over it.
You go into the woods looking for the fern flower. It does not exist. You aren't sure why you are looking for it.
Midsummer sunset. Now if only we could get some actual sunshine!
Magic Day Protection Spells [in Relation to Animals]
Certain days of the year are believed [to be] filled with extra magic power. Spells and magic rituals are performed on those days to benefit people, but also to benefit animals. These days traditionally include the following:
Beltane, May Day, Walpurgis (May 1st) [...]
Midsummer’s Day, Saint John’s Day (June 24th*) Although Midsummer’s Even is famous for its aromatic bonfires, water rituals are incorporated as well, especially for animals. (*Some substitute the precise date of each year’s summer solstice.) [...]
Saint George’s Day (April 23rd) In many communities, Saint George’s day was the day animals were lead out into the field, thus protective, blessing rituals abound.
