Thinking about how Will and Lyra’s love (BIBLICAL LEVELS OF LOVE) is what saved the world (but also really what that love represented - freedom to explore, freedom to choose, freedom to mature and grow).

But also how His Dark Materials is also a story of how love doesn’t save all.

Marissa and Asriel’s love didn’t stop them from destructing each other. Their love towards Lyra didn’t stop them from abandoning and hurting her.

Lyra’s love for Oxford, for Roger, for the Gyptians — didn’t stop them from being hurt, from suffering.

Love isn’t the be or end all. It can’t be. Love is the conduit, freedom to choose it is the energy. You have to choose it. Stick by it.

Go back to the bench every year, at the same time. Choose to do it.
