Politics: Horrible people competing for the power to use state violence to force other people to do things they wouldn't do voluntarily.
Radley Balko
Oh Florida, will we ever not be trash. I'm tired. People here spoke about medical marijuana like "Reefer Madness" was a real thing. Again, I'm tired.
Are they going to let Wolf Blitzer take a nap? He's been reporting since 1 and he's already looking a little sleepy.
if you are 18 and up and live in the us guess what it's time to vote tomorrow! so do! and tell your other 18+ friends to vote too! If you don't know anything about the candidates, Google them! hell, you could even Bing them! gain basic knowledge and make a decision!
Please realize that local legislators and governors will affect your everyday life more than any president ever will. Midterms are important.
Also please realize your state's senators and representatives in Congress are the people who actually make the laws. They will affect what legislation is put into place more than any president ever will.
Also make sure to research all the ramifications of any ballot questions that your state has. These questions, depending on how many yeses and noes each question gets, will determine real-life rules for the county and state you live in, more than any president ever will.
The small elections are the important ones. Google some shit, visit www.vote411.org make some decisions, then go somewhere tomorrow and inform a computer of your decisions. Yay democracy.
If you are under 18 congratulations! You don't have to deicde the fate of the US tomorrow! But your friends and family do! So yell at them to vote.
Exercise their right to decide shit. Don't let them be apathetic. Remember: If they complain about the state of the nation, and they don't vote, you get to yell at them to stop complaining when they don't attempt to fix it. You can;t decide shit yet. Make them feel bad that they can and you can't. Make them vote.
If you don't live in the US. Congratulations! You don't have to participate in the miserably ineffective two-party representative democracy we like to call the United States of Shitty Governmental Procedure. Checks and balances are great, and having only two major parties sucks. And the latter means the former causes absolutely nothing to get done. Seriously. Congratulations on living someplace else. Unless it's a dictatorship. In that case my sincerest condolences.
But you too can play a part in this web of corrupt government and public apathy. Yell at your US friends to vote! Yell at your US enemies to vote! Yell at people to research candidates and not just pick the nicest looking one! You too can make the "greatest country in the world" a bit less shit.
Go forth, Tumblr! Rock the vote! Make decisions! Yell at people to make decisions! Earn a right to complain about how crap the US is! In terms of who governs it anyway, there are plenty of other reasons to complain...
Anyway. Know how to fix those issues you want to complain about?
Vote.
Proponents say these laws ensure election integrity, but a FRONTLINE analysis found that ID requirements aren't applied equally to all voters.
Gee, wonder why an entire group of pasty, old, aging, flaccid, white men want to suppress the votes from the poor, disenfranchised population in this country.
All Hands On Deck
'Repeat and Replay' #DLU! Turn out in this #Midterm 2014 Election is the key in moving forward with "All Hands On Deck"! #Hillary, #Biden or whomever the #Democrats run in 2016 will be in a better position politically to continue the struggle for #Equality. Spread the word for #AllHandsOnDeck! Like if you agree, Share and Comment if you like!
Democrats are more likely to lose the Senate than Republicans are of losing the House this year.
Let that sink in.
George Will talks about this and other interesting numbers in politics in his column at the Washington Post.
