Former Catholic here. You're right. Ash Wednesday is considered the start of lent, which has a service where people get a cross made of ashes placed on their forehead. Lent is basically 40 days of penance leading up to Good Friday, when Jesus died on the cross, and Easter, when he rose again, which is Catholics believed is when people's sins would be washed away.
Meanwhile, I think Clean Monday starts it in Eastern Orthodox ones, but I'm not completely certain. (I was born and raised in a place with a high Eastern European population, so I know some things about that by proxy. Fun fact: Canada has the most Ukrainian people outside of Russia and that country.)
Not sure if that was intentional, but it's an interesting coincidence to be sure. Cinderella's story is partly about her being a servant and being upgraded to being a princess when she marries the prince, which shares a resemblance to that.
Oh! Interesting. I was wondering if maybe it's a reference to Aschenputtel (German Cinderella) because in that one, Cinderella's mom says, "Dear child, be good and pious, and then the good God will always protect you, and I will look down on you from heaven and be near you." before she dies.
But that's a bit odd because Disney's Cinderella is based on Perrault's telling, Cendrillion, which doesn't have any overt religious aspects except the fact Cinderella has a godmother, who is a fairy, as far as I can remember.
So, I've been keeping an eye on the Sparklink Stars stuff and the names of the characters from the Cinderella group that aren't Cinderella, the Fragile brothers? Their names made me think of Lent and Ash Wednesday (I'm not part of a religion that practices Lent observance, I just knew about it because kids I knew as a child who were Catholic).
Not sure if that's on purpose, since Lent is considered to start on Ash Wednesday I think, but huh. Interesting name choice there.
