Writing Prompt: The Neighbors
This prompt is inspired by Sarah Dimick's poem, called "Onions," published in the Midway Journal. The poem begins, "A field of onions is moving into the apartment above us." Today, write about your neighbors--who they are, or who they seem to be. If it's helpful, use Sarah's first line, replacing "a field of onions" with your own description. Perhaps your neighbors are a frat house, a litter of cats, or the invisible man. If you don't have neighbors, think creatively. Describe your neighbor the wind, the speeding cars, or the rain that lives upstairs.
For an extra challenge, make this poem truly about the neighbors. Avoid personal references (I, me, my).
For a double challenge and bonus points, if you've been using this or other writing prompts, submit a piece to The Prompt, a new, online literary magazine comprised entirely of works based on prompts.
