“Okay, okay...” Maya muttered under her breath, “twelfth time’s the charm...”
She was doing her best to see if she could get her spirit channeling to work, but, well... she wasn’t having much luck. Back when she was a less experienced medium, this sort of thing would happen to her a lot, and some simple meditation and mindfulness exercises were usually sufficient to fix everything, so that was where she had decided to start.
But the thing about spiritual meditation was that it kind of required a very... specific environment. Sitting under a freezing cold waterfall would have been preferable, for instance, but at the very least she needed to be surrounded by peace and natural forces. But that required her to wander off into the forest alone! She was already on edge, and she wasn’t about to go increase her chances of running into someone dangerous.
So she was stuck trying to meditate next to this very public tree, much to her frustration. She was so wound up that every time someone walked by or made noise, her concentration was totally broken, which only made her task harder as she grew more and more annoyed. Eventually, she couldn’t take it anymore.
Right, she thought, the next person to go stomping by is gonna get a piece of my mind!
“That’s it!” she exclaimed a few minutes later, only to open her eyes and realize that, uh, this guy looked kind of intimidating, actually. “Can’t you see--uh, that is, actually never mind! Forget I said anything!”
