“ I am Gideon, A Mighty Man of Valor”

I am awesome.. This is who I am.

These past days I felt that I have been caught in a trap, in a box of comfort, in a frozen zone. Cornered in a state where things become grey, numb, and bland. I have been running in circles, chasing tails, as a song goes, no clear direction.  I was blinded, clouded by strong enfeebling emotions which I shall name, Goliath. Battles lost and good fights turned defeat. On my own, I just cannot.

Since then, I have been living on a daily basis: on autopilot mode, a zombie wandering. I go to work just to get excited for dismissal time, how productive. I wake up, wage war on daily hoo-has, sleep then wake up again. On the side quest, I have kept my distance from the world, placed my walls high enough that none can dare reach.  It’s hard to admit, as a Mighty Gideon, I was left in the wake of clamor which led me to thirst for solitude. I needed a space to breathe.

This morning was on the same routine but turned out to be magnificently different. I have been reminded, I am a son. Not just a son of somebody. Well, kudos to my ever-loving Papa Long. But.. I am a son of the Living God. 

I used to claim that I am a Daddy’s boy but oftentimes, I forget. Good thing, Daddy never forgets. On my own, I cannot but with the One living inside of me, I can do all things through Him.

I made my move: Castle- King Side.

As Christians, we are not assured of a life, free of difficulties. But as long as we have the King on our side, these challenges will be a breeze. Not easy, but still, a breeze. As my mentor and confidant said, Valleys are inevitable. Through valleys high and low, we need to cherish it and learn lessons from it as much as we can. As I walk through the valley, I shall not fear, for You are with me.

Sometimes, it’s shameful to admit that we Christians feel defeated on our low-points. Or should I say, forget who we are in Christ. There’s nothing to be ashamed about it though but, as believers, it is implied that life should always be victorious. Or should I say, life is already victorious. We are not on our way to victory; we have already come from victory, 2000 years ago. The battle has already been won.

But why do I feel down or defeated? The only issue here is when we don’t let God win our battles. We think that the battle is ours but it is His all along. We think we could defeat our monsters on our own but ta-da! surprise!, only He can.

I have been swishing my sword against the empty air, claiming battles that are not mine to take. In the end, I get pierced, wounded, hurt and finally, complaining. But what if I just surrendered in Daddy God and rested in His presence from the start?  

I admit, I acted on my own.

On my own, I cannot but with the One living inside of me, I can do all things through Him.

There might have been a lot of voices, noises that keep us confused. But only One voice matters. They told me that Gideon is the least of the least. But He told me, I am a mighty man of valor.
