Birthday's are rough

It's a day for others to celebrate you... But either you have to make your own plans to ensure you feel like you own your day, or the plans are made for you and you feel pushed into the monotony of cake and presents. The week before your birthday everyone scrambles to buy presents they didn't think to get before. God-forbid your birthday is on Facebook for everyone to write "happy birthday" on your wall. It's a day that you're supposed to feel special and yet you spend half the day wondering who REALLY knew your birthday was that day and who just saw it online. What in society makes us feel that we deserve to be so happy and receive so much on that one day? I wish I could lose that part of me. I imagine more people experience disappointment and despair on their birthday than any other day. Birthdays are most certainly rough.
