“Las cosas que haría por ti.” (The things I would do for you.)
A yelp comes from your lips as you fall back, caught by surprise by the springiness from his bed. You push yourself up on your elbows, you look up at him to see him staring right down at you. The two of you were already nude.
Miguel crawls forward on the bed, he looks over your hickey littered neck and the bruise already forming on your hip. His eyes then came into contact with yours, he stopped when he was on top of you and pushed you back to lay back on the bed.
He takes your arms and moves them upward until your wrists are pushed against the headboard. You can feel the weird substance of Miguel’s webbing retrain your wrists.
His tongue runs over his lips as he grabs your legs, spreading them further. He didn’t tease or give any kind of warning, he slammed right into you.
Miguel let out a growl like sound, his pace quickened immediately which earned more and loud moans from you.
“Quiero todo de ti.” (I want all of you.) Miguel hissed, his hands moving to clutch the headboard as he slammed right into you, over and over again. You can hear the headboard slamming against the wall.
“Te quiero solo para mi.” (I want you to myself only.)
That’s when you heard the crack and your arms fall from the headboard, it makes Miguel stop his moment and click his tongue in annoyance.
“Dammit, Miguel!” You groan, “I just bought this frame!” You look at the damage, carefully moving away from the splinters and broken pieces of the wood, “Seriously?”
“You should’ve bought a better frame.”
“I shouldn’t be buying more frames if someone could watch their strength.” You retort, “Untie me.” You sit up and push your tied wrist to him.
He grabs your wrists, “No puedo controlarme cuando estoy contigo.” (I can’t control myself when I’m with you.) He uses his claws to pry off the webbing.
“Great! Now I have to get a new frame.” You get up from bed and gather your clothes.
“Where are you going?” Miguel asked, grabbing his clothes and putting them on when he’s following you out the door.
You manage to put on your clothes, “To buy a new frame.” You grab your keys and put on your shoes.
“Can’t that wait?” But Miguel doesn’t follow you when he steps out the door.
“No.” And you shut the door, off to buy a new frame. You leave Miguel feeling frustrated.
Hello! So this is my idea and this is going to be angsty as hell *coughs* sorry-
Anyways, I was thinking of an idea where female spider person s/o almost failed the mission and Miguel, being the harsh jackass as he always was -_- was scolding her to death till he said something very hurtful to s/o.
She was really hurt by his words as she painfully accepted it and walked out of the office then she headed back home with her gizmo, till three weeks have passed and she wasn't really active at all. Her friends like Gwen, Jess and Peter tried to contact her but she wasn't answering it.
Miguel and her friends decided to check up on her and visit her world, till they found her badly and bloody injured like so many wounds on face and her arm was gone from having a fight with Lizard and she won. They sent her back to their infirmary while she was unconscious and doctors tried their best to stop the bleeding.
Miguel was too guilty of what he had done and started to apologize to her
this is so sad but I love it so much. this is gonna be a continuation of your idea, where Miguel and reader are in the infirmary.
Pairing: miguel o'hara x f!spiderperson!reader
Warnings: 18+, ANGST, lots of guilt from miguel, mild blood warning, sad medical stuff, mild hurt no comfort
Summary: miguel spends weeks drowning in the guilt of almost getting you killed
A/N: I actually suck at writing angst 🫡
Word Count: 1.5K (unedited)
Miguel stands in the infirmary, the sterile scent of antiseptic filling the air, mingling with the sharp tang of adrenaline still coursing through his veins. The fluorescent lights cast a harsh glow over the room, highlighting the stark contrast between the pristine white walls and the chaos of the medical team working frantically to stabilise you.
Their movements are precise and hurried, a blur of scrubs and instruments, each step a dance of desperation. Bandages wrap around your wounds, but the sight of your blood staining the sheets sends a wave of nausea crashing over him, the crimson liquid a stark reminder of his failure. He should have been there. He should have prevented this.
Three weeks. Three weeks of silence, of guilt festering in his chest like an open wound, a wound that refuses to heal. He had pushed you away, scolded you harshly after that mission, the words spilling from his mouth like poison, each syllable a dagger to his own heart.
“You’re not good enough,” he had said, the coldness of his voice cutting deeper than any physical injury. The moment the words left his lips, he had seen the hurt flash in your eyes—a fleeting glimpse of the pain he had inflicted, a pain that now echoes through his soul. But it wasn’t until now, seeing you broken and battered, that he truly understood the weight of his words, the gravity of his mistake.
As the doctors work diligently, Miguel paces the small room, his mind a whirlwind of regret and anger— anger at himself, anger at the situation, anger at the villain that had done this to you. He clenches his fists, the sharp edges of his claws digging into his palms, drawing blood, a physical manifestation of his inner turmoil. He wishes he could turn back time, and erase the moment he let his frustration overpower his concern, but time is a cruel mistress, and she offers no reprieve.
A doctor approaches him, her expression serious, her eyes weary from the battle they’ve all been fighting. “We’re doing everything we can, but she’s lost a lot of blood. It’s critical that she stabilises soon.”
Miguel nods, his throat tight as he swallows down the rising panic, the fear clawing at his insides. He steps closer to you, his heart aching at the sight of your unconscious form, your skin pale against the stark white sheets. He reaches out, brushing a stray hair away from your face, his fingers trembling slightly as he does so, the touch almost reverent.
“I'm sorry. I’m so sorry, mi alma,” he whispers, the words barely escaping his lips, a mere shadow of the apology he knows he owes you, an apology that feels woefully inadequate in the face of your suffering.
He remembers the moments you shared, the laughter that filled the spaces between missions, the way your eyes sparkled when you spoke about your dreams. He had been so focused on being the perfect leader, on maintaining control, that he had forgotten to be the partner you needed, the partner you deserved.
As time drags on, the hum of machines and the hurried footsteps of the staff create a haunting rhythm in the background, a symphony of desperation that echoes through the room. Miguel’s mind drifts back to the last time he saw you— your expression, a mix of hurt and resignation, as you walked out of his office. He should have run after you, should have told you how much you meant to him, but he had let his pride and anger cloud his judgement, and now he is left to bear the weight of that decision.
Hours pass, the sun sinking lower in the sky, casting shadows across the room, shadows that seem to mirror the darkness in his heart. Miguel remains by your side, his presence a silent vow to protect you from now on. He watches the rise and fall of your chest, counting each breath as if it were a lifeline, a fragile thread connecting him to the hope that you would awaken. The rhythmic beeping of the machines becomes his new heartbeat, each sound a reminder of your fight, your strength— even in this vulnerable state. The fluorescent lights flicker slightly, casting an ethereal glow over the scene, and Miguel leans forward, his heart heavy with unspoken words.
“You know, I’ve never been good at this,” he admits, his voice barely above a whisper, trembling with the weight of his emotions. “Apologising, I mean. But I need you to know that I’m sorry for what I said. I was an idiot. I let my anger get the best of me, and I hurt you.”
He pauses, searching for the right words, knowing that nothing could truly convey the remorse he feels. “You’re so much stronger than I gave you credit for. I should have believed in you. I should have been there for you.”
As he speaks, tears prick at the corners of his eyes, a rawness in his throat that threatens to choke him. The memories flood back— your laughter ringing through the air like music, the way you had seamlessly moved alongside him in battle, your unwavering determination that had always inspired him.
He watches your face intently, searching for any sign of consciousness, any flicker of the spark that makes you who you are. The machines beep softly, a steady reminder of your fight, yet with each passing moment, the silence stretches, thick and suffocating, wrapping around him like a shroud.
“I miss you,” he admits, his voice thick with emotion.
“I miss your laughter, your determination. I need you to come back to me.” The words spill out like a prayer, a desperate plea to the universe for your recovery, for a second chance to make things right.
Minutes turn into hours as he remains by your side, the weight of his guilt pressing heavily on his shoulders. He closes his eyes, allowing the memories to wash over him— the way you had smiled when you swung through the city, the way your spirit had illuminated even the darkest of days. Each recollection is a bittersweet ache in his chest, a reminder of what he stands to lose if you don’t wake up.
“Miguel,” a voice breaks through the silence, and he jolts upright, his heart racing as he leans closer. You’re stirring, your eyelids fluttering as you fight against the haze of unconsciousness, and hope surges through him like wildfire.
“I’m here. I’m right here,” he reassures you, his voice breaking with emotion, clinging to the moment like a lifeline.
You blink slowly, confusion clouding your gaze, a mixture of fear and pain etched across your features.
“What happened?” you croak, your voice weak, each word a laborious effort.
“Lizard… you fought him. You were incredible,” he replies, his heart swelling with pride even amidst the worry that tightens his chest. “But you got hurt. You’ve been unconscious for a while.”
You wince, a flicker of pain crossing your face as the memories come rushing back. “I… I remember fighting. I thought I could handle it.”
Miguel’s heart clenches at your words, a deep-seated fear gnawing at him. “You can handle anything, but you shouldn’t have to do it alone. I should have been there. I didn’t believe in you when I should have.” The admission hangs heavy in the air, a confession of his deepest regret.
Tears well in your eyes as you search his face, the vulnerability in your gaze cutting through the tension in the room like a knife. “You said… you said I wasn’t good enough.”
The words hang between you like a dark cloud, and Miguel’s heart sinks, the reality of his past mistakes crashing down on him.
“I was wrong,” he says, his voice thick with emotion, trembling under the weight of his remorse. “I was scared, and I took it out on you. You deserve so much more than what I gave you. I’m so sorry.”
You swallow hard, the tears spilling down your cheeks, each drop a testament to the pain he had caused. “It hurt, Miguel. It really hurt.”
“I know,” he replies, his voice breaking, the anguish in his heart surfacing like a tidal wave.
“And I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you if you let me. Just please… don’t shut me out again. I can’t lose you.” The desperation in his voice hangs in the air, a silent promise that he is willing to fight for you, for your love, for a chance to rebuild what had been shattered.
The two of you share a moment of silence, the weight of the past lingering in that small infirmary room, amidst the beeping machines and the antiseptic smell. Miguel realises that he is ready to do whatever it takes to prove that he can be the partner you need, the partner who believes in you wholeheartedly.
But as you drift back into a fragile sleep, Miguel sits by your side, his heart empty at your lack of reciprocation, the void of uncertainty swallowing him whole. He knows he’s lost you now, and it’s all his fault. The guilt festers, a relentless ache that refuses to fade, and he vows silently that he will not rest until you are back in his arms, where you belong.
i think it's problematic that i would've forgiven him in a heart beat lmao

••••••••••••••••••••••
You remembered the first time you saw him.. interacted with him.. looked into his eyes, since that moment you searched for him everywhere, from class to just catch a glimpse of his curly brown hair.. to the coffee shop she found out he frequented. To the library she saw him studying at. And the moment you found out his name.. Miguel O’Hara.
Though at first it was just occasional greetings to each other or small interactions, you convinced yourself it was just a crush.. something that would go away, that was until your heart would sting when you saw him being close to other women.
Talking to them.. smiling at them, laughing with them she just wanted to be acknowledged, it hurt even if it shouldn’t have.
Until at some monthly frat party, you got dolled up to go with her friends.. the party was boring most of the time, until he spoke more to you..
his crimson eyes stared down at you a softness to them, his voice smooth and deep.. “Hey there hermosa..” that was the first time he looked at you the way you wanted.
Over the next few weeks you had gotten closer and closer, spending time studying together or sitting together in class they even went to the movies together, you felt happy about it you didn’t exactly know if it was romantic or not but he used a lot of nicknames for you.
Presently now, you and him had just gotten back to the campus from a party and he insisted he take her home, you accepted and they walked back to your unoccupied dorm since her dorm mate was staying at her boyfriends.
They talked about the party and whatever little dramas happened because of course some happened, you smiled and laughed with him, you had got to the front door of your dorm and you turned to thank him. “Well thank you for taking me back, I hope you get back safely.” You were cut off by Miguel speaking “How about I come in hermosa?, could watch a movie order a pizza..” his voice smooth while smiling down at her.
“Oh.. okay that’d be okay..” you got flustered but tried not to show it.. you went into your dorm room you showed him around, and you set up your tv and bed to be comfortable and changed into a soft matching pj set.
Miguel had ordered a pizza since you two were hungry and wanted to get a little more sober, they comfortably watched a movie together and ate..
After the first movie they decided to watch a romcom.. she was getting
comfortable and about halfway into the movie you felt his large hand on your as he looked over at you. “Eres bonita.” he said softly to X, you smiled softly with flushed cheeks. “You know hermosa.. I hope you don’t mind if stay longer then expected right?.”
“Well.. depends for what.” You said softly turning to face him better, Miguel smirked softly tucking a piece of hair behind your ear he then leaned in and kissed her cheek, his hands trailing up your body resting on your back pulling you closer to him, his lips went down on your jaw and softly kissing the front of your neck.
He pulled you onto his lap, his hands massaging the plush flesh of your thighs up your hips and waist to hold you close to him, his lips softly found yours as he gave you soft pecks while one of his hands went up into your hair to softly hold you still.
The feeling of everything he was doing made you feel warm and happy, you reciprocated the touches in a shy manner, hands resting on his chest as you two kissed softly. You had been suppressing fantasies and daydreams of similar scenarios happening the past couple months.
He pulled away and kissed your neck sucking softly leaving small bruises behind, you let out a small whimper which made him smirk as he gripped your waist tighter, he looked up at you as his voice you loved so much spoke. “may i?.” He asked as he gripped the bottom of your shirt.
You nodded a little too enthusiastically, his hands snaked up and pulled your shirt off while smiling softly he leaned down to kiss and leave more bruises behind on your shoulders and middle of your chest.
you held onto his arm while his hand went behind you and unclasped your bra, he threw it off as his hands came and cupped them both, making you bite you lip.
He rolled the sensitive nipples between his fingers, you gasped and your cheeks turned red at the feeling, he smirked as he took his own shirt and pants off as he lifted you up to do so. He hooked his fingers in the band of your shirts and panties to pull them down.
“Tan bonita .. solo para mi.” Miguel softly said as he looked over you, he laid you down on the bed as he softly pulled apart your legs and smiled, as he reached down to his pants pocket and pulled out a condom.
He pushed his boxers down, you felt a little shocked at the size as he rolled the condom down his length, looked back at you and pushed your legs back up as he used his fingers and softly rubbed your clit. Then up and down your slick folds your sweet whimpers and soft moans leaving your lips you felt so turned on and needy for this man truly.
“Just gotta help you relax cariño.” He said as he slid one of his thick fingers pushed inside your slit, you let out a surprised mewl while he softly massaged your insides.
“Miguel..” You said softly as you moaned and he added another finger inside, he leaned down to kiss your cheek. “That’s it tan buena .” He murmured against your cheek while his fingers pumped in and out of your hole, he hummed as he looked down at you and pulled his fingers out.
He held his length in his hand as he softly pushed it against your folds, coating his dick in your slick and biting his lip he slid the length up and down as the tip nudged against your clit. “So wet cariño..” you gasped softly and moaned quietly as he continued.
“You ready?.. just tell me if you need me to stop okay.” Miguel said as he looked at you, you nodded signaling you were ready as he held your leg with one of his hands as the other slowly pushed the thick head of his dick inside you.
You let out a moan as he entered, the feeling was blissful the way he filled you was so good you weren’t sure if you’d ever be able to live without it, he was gentle as he pushed inside and slowly pulled back out to thrust back in slowly, he thrusted slowly for a few minutes making love to you sweetly.
“More please-“ you muttered out absentmindedly needing more, he obliged and began thrusting a little faster and deeper as he held onto your soft thighs, he groaned and whimpered quietly as he looked down at you beneath him. Writhing from the pleasure he gave you.
Soon you felt that euphoric feeling in your stomach as you panted while he sped up some more, the sensation was amazing for both you gripped the sheets as you threw your head back moaning louder but trying to be quiet so others people in the dorm building wouldn’t hear you.. but it was getting to the point where you didn’t care who heard.
As long as you could keep feeling him inside you and holding you, you came and let out a whiny moan Miguel smiled as he cooed at how good you are for coating him, while he thrusted some more to reach his high. he shot his warm liquid into the condom he panted and leaned over to kiss you while he told you how good you did.
he pulled out as he threw the condom away, and walked off to your bathroom to come back with a warm cloth to clean you up, being gentle not to overstimulate you in the process, he put some new clothes on you and brushed your hair.
Tucking you into your bed and laying next to you, or as best as he could in the twin size down bed he caressed your hair as you fell asleep.. content with how the night went.
That went on for a while, you and Miguel hadn’t really made anything official or put a name to it but you thought you had something special with him.. he took you out to eat to parties and well made love to you like no other, around 3 months passed like that it was sweet.
Today was another day you and him went out to the movies to watch a new movie, then went back to your dorm to well.. what else now you lay in bed together, just watching a random tv show then Miguel sat up. “Hey.. we need to talk.” He said as you sat up and nodded “okay what is it?.” You came up with small ideas on what it was, to what the plans were going to be for fall break to if he’d finally ask you the question.
He sighed and looked away slightly “look we can’t do this anymore.. I’m sorry, I just have been building a bond with this girl and I want to make it official with her.”
That made your heart drop, it felt like you’d been punched in your heart and made you feel.. angry?.
“wait.. then what was I?.” You asked in a confused hurt tone, his eyes widened slightly “well- I mean I just thought of us as something causal you know?, I mean isn’t it all it was?.”
How wrong he was, your brows furrowed into confusion. “I thought we had something special- is that all I was to you?, your causal fuck buddy?, I thought we were building something..”
“Look I’m sorry.. we can still be friends but I just want to focus on her.” He said as he got off your bed, you were hurt and anger and you had good reason to be, he led you on.
“Fine.. fine just go..” you said and he grabbed his things as he walked to your dorm door he looked back at you “I’m sorry again..”
The next few weeks after that happened you weren’t feeling the same.. the nice routine you and him had wasn’t there anymore, you began ignoring any gatherings or activities to avoid him.. to avoid the man who you thought liked you.
There was a void every time you went to any of the places you frequently visited with him, you saw other couples and felt a hole in your heart, you thought he would’ve felt the same..
You couldn’t stand the view of him and his new girlfriend.. that was supposed to be you and him, why did he do that to you?.. why would he.
The time you two spent together was sweet and nice.. who knew he just thought of it as nothing serious.
The rest of college went like that, you did only have a year left so that was relieving you left and started your career in business, it was hard to forget Miguel but it was for the best.
Maybe it wasn’t the time for you, but it was the wrong moment, whoever knew the answer to that question.
You were in love with Miguel, but never even made it to his top five.
Merely a blip in his lifetime.

COFFEE
miguel o’hara x fem!reader

✧.┊ MASTERLIST
Every morning before meetings, you'd make coffee for Miguel to his exact liking -a splash of cream and a sprinkle of sugar- though no one else could ever know that. If anyone asked, it was always black.
You'd do this every day without fail, bringing you both a hot drink to enjoy during seminars. It was an act you did naturally, and though Miguel never asked, it was always appreciated- often pausing to thank you or to send a gentle smile your way.
Recently, there have been a bunch of recruits, and to help settle them in, you would offer them a coffee. No one would take you up on your offer except one.
To you, it was a kind and simple gesture, just helping the newbies feel comfortable. But when you glanced at your boyfriend's scowled face, you could tell he thought otherwise.
You cock your head to the side and narrow your eyes, silently questioning Miguel's reaction. You glance away and pass the mug to the new guy, smiling in a friendly manner when he verbally expresses his appreciation.
You gaze back up to see Miguel, his burly elbows resting on the table, hands clasped together in front of his face as he glares over the top, his eyes honing in on you.
You walk over to your chair beside him -the one that's always vacant for you- and sit.
"What was that?" he whispers into his fist, keeping his eyes fixed on the new kid, clearly trying to intimidate him.
"What?" you whisper back, following his eyeline. "Oh, you mean the coffee? Seriously?" you question, face grimacing. "He's new. Just trying to make him feel welcome— would you stop that?" you nudge his arm, forcing him to stop and look away from the recruit. "That's not gonna help."
He scoffs, wiping over the bottom half of his face, unamused.
"Are you serious right now?" you whisper, emphasising your annoyance with gritted teeth.
"Talk about this later," he dismisses you and turns his attention to Jess at the stand.
You weakly chuckle, shaking your head. "Yeah, can't wait."
₊˚ପ⊹ summary: reader is part of spider society and in this multiverse you have soulmates, miguel is your soulmate but you aren’t his
₊˚ପ⊹ warnings: angst, lots of angst, death, betrayal, plot twist!!
₊˚ପ⊹ relationship: miguel x fem!spider-reader
₊˚ପ⊹ wc: 1.5k
you were invited to the spider society when an anomaly entered your world and after wrapping up the fight you were greeted by the leader of the spider-society who had offered you a spot on the team which you had happily obliged to.
at first, it took some time to get used to all the different spider-people who were just like you, there were all sorts of variants, animals, peni’s, gwen’s, miles, and a ton of peter parker’s.
but the one that stood out to you the most was spider-man 2099, miguel o’hara.
sure he was a cold fella when you first met him but he had to have another side to him right?
over the next year or so you started to crack miguel’s shield until you two began to lean on each other for support.
one night that stood out very clearly in your memory between the two of you was a night when you had almost lost your life during a fight.
“y/n, are you crazy?? if i had been one second too late you would have fallen to your death, do you realize how serious this is?”
you stared at miguel in a daze as you had felt your life flash before your eyes. your webs had jammed and you were falling from a building 50ft in the air and all that raced through your mind was that you were gonna die.
fortunately for you, miguel had caught you in a blink of an eye and was now scolding you for what had just occurred.
“okay okay i get it, it’s my fault and i’m sorry i scared you like that..”
miguel let out a loud groan before pulling you into a hug and whispering something only the two of you could hear.
“don’t ever do that again, it scared me, i care about you.”
you let out a small chuckle as you relaxed into his embrace and as you stroked his back you realized you had fallen for the stone-cold man
over the next course of the weeks, you two had practically been inseparable other than the time he spent in his universe you two were stuck like peas.
the two of you hung out so much to the point you felt like he also had feelings for you.
but you were proven wrong when she stepped into the image.
she was a girl who miguel had met in his world, she was funny, smart, and could cook! but most of all, she was another variant of you.
eventually, miguel drifted away from you and started to cozy up on the other you which left a void for you to fill with absolutely nothing.
it was heartbreaking to know that miguel loved you, just, it wasn’t you. but i mean, shocker right? the man who absolutely loves keeping the canon intact and risking it all for some relationship that could cause an anomaly? no way that was happening on his watch!
you watched in sadness as you saw the two of them getting along so happily, laughing and cracking jokes— just like how you and miguel used to.
“miguel, if you ever need someone to lean on, you know i’ve always got your back!”
miguel’s breath hitched a little at her words, it gave him a sense of deja vu, almost like he had heard it somewhere before.
before he could put a finger on the familiar sensation, he had a sense that someone was watching him and as he scanned his office as he caught sight of a spider lurking.
“mi alma, wait here for a second while i go and take care of some business okay?”
he gave his variant of you a quick kiss on the head before he swang off to go find the individual who had been spying on the couple.
"y/n, what are you doing?"
you flinched as you heard his low voice behind you and muttered a small lie.
"was just going to report a mission, usual business, sorry for interrupting."
"if there's nothing left, have to go back to my universe, kinda got something big going on!"
miguel watched as you disappeared into the orange vortex and even after several minutes you had been gone he stood in the same place waiting for you to just pop out but you never did.
"Si tan solo supieran por qué lo hice, creo que entenderían."
"the anomaly is in sight, be prepared y/n"
"alrighty, here we go lyla!!"
the anomaly was a variant of your doc ock except this one was extremely more futuristic than yours.
swinging from side to side, you manage to dodge the incoming attacks and land a few hits here and there eventually being able to slow her down.
"is that all you've got?" you yell as you disable her tentacle attachments.
unfortunately for you, that seemed to have fueled the anomaly's anger causing her to bring out some sort of technology that you've never seen before.
dodging the incoming attacks became harder and harder as fatigue started to dwell in your muscles, after a period of time, she manages to catch you off guard which resulted in you slamming straight into a building.
"holy shit, now that one sure did hurt.." you groan out in pain as you clutch your abdomen.
you pick yourself up and quickly call into your watch to call for backup as you swing yourself onto a higher building to get a good angle.
what you didn't expect for who to come was miguel, it had been quite some time since the two of you had even talked ever since that small little conversation.
it seemed he hadn't expected you to be there either as he flashed you a sort of look you couldn't quite put a finger on to what he was thinking.
"well, a little help here?" you mutter as you feel the adrenaline in your body wearing off.
before you could hear a reply he swung into action to clean up the mess you couldn't have finished which left you to catch your breath for a few seconds.
following the brief moment of rest, your watch started to chime indicating something big was happening.
"canon event happening.." you whispered as you stared at the hologram.
who's canon event? there couldn't possibly be another spider here other than you and miguel, but maybe there was, whatever it was you swung yourself back into action hoping to find miguel to explain what needed to happen in order for the canon to occur.
you saw his figure clearly 7ft away and called for him.
"MIGUEL! CANON EVENT, WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?"
hearing your voice he gazes over at you and his mask depicts one of surprise like he hadn't seen it coming either which was odd. he manages to snap out of it and yell back at you.
"STAY OUT OF THIS Y/N, GO BACK TO HEADQUARTERS OR SOMETHING!"
your face contorts at the sudden command, rather than obliging you swing yourself into combat once more syncing with the man beside you.
it had been going oh so well, but you should have known that it was too good to be true.
just as the two of you held the villain down with your webs, some sort of green fog pursed out of its tentacles enveloping the area you and miguel had been in.
you coughed as the weird fog made you feel weak, faltering you felt yourself drifting in and out of consciousness, miguel sensed this and dropped the villain quickly into prison before rushing to your side just as your grasp loosened on your webs.
as the two of you dropped onto a ledge, miguel pulled your mask off revealing a horrifying sight. your body was bruised and battered up, the haze you consumed not making it any better.
"Joder, esto no se suponía que sucediera."
your breathing was irregular as you stared at the man whom you've loved oh so much in the past time you've been a part of the society.
"miguel, i think it's time, i just want to tell you one thing," you choke out as the oxygen flowing into you made it even harder to continue your words.
"please don't die, it wasn't supposed to be you, i thought i fixed it, i thought i changed it." he rambled as tears threaten to spill from his eyes.
you smiled softly as you understood what he meant, he wasn't trying to replace you, he was trying to save you.
"thank you for everything, thank you for inviting me to your society, i've learned many things over the years, and most of all, thank you for letting me love you."
the tears gushed out as he heard your last words, the water prickling her face, with all her remaining strength, she cupped his face and caressed it softly until her body falls limp leaving the leader of the spider society to mourn as he clenches her battered body close to his own.
"canon event completed."

everyone had warned you to watch out for guys like Miguel- the loud, cocky ones that only think with their dick. but you’ve never been one to listen, not to overbearing second cousins and patronising aunts, anyway.
your ignorance to their advice doesn’t do much, though, because as much as you pretend, they’re right. he knows he could have any girl he wants, all he’d have to do is flash her that signature smirk, maybe wrap one of his toned arms around her waist, and they’re putty in his hands.
so why would he give you- the gut-wrenchingly awkward waitress at the diner him and his friends flood after work- the time of day ?
༶•┈┈୨♡୧┈┈•༶
It's a peacefully slow day at the diner, booths just as empty as the tip jar and the counter bell unrung.
This would be the perfect opportunity to relax, count the cars passing by and try to work out if you can afford takeout for tea, but you are stuck talking to some random guy.
He's sweet enough, fairly attractive, and a large tipper. Hopefully, things don't get too difficult.
"So then I said to my buddy, Clarence. Y’know Clarence, sweetheart? Comes here twice a week with his wife on Tuesdays and then comes on Saturdays with his… lady friend?"
You internally grimace at his words. Your smile falters slightly but you fight to keep that forced, hospitality smile plastered on your face.
If working at this grimy diner has taught you anything it's that people like him don't want to see a strand of emotion other than flattery at their crude compliments.
"That wasn't a rhetorical question, darling.”
Your gaze snaps back to him, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly.
“Do. You. Know. Clarence?" he sounds much gruffer now, more stern.
Panicked, you shake your head a quick no.
You do know Clarence and he is even more pushy than this guy, always taking a not-so-conspicuous glance at your chest, 'accidentally' groping your ass.
Somehow, he knows you're lying and his expression hardens. "Don't lie to me, m'kay? I asked you a simple question and all you have to do is answer it for me."
The way his words are so slow to pass through his thin, leathery lips makes your stomach form knots.
You glance around the diner but there's no one else there, the very few people who had been there left the moment he came in.
Is there something you don't know? You've been working here for just over a month and you thought you knew all the inside secrets, the customers to flirt with to get the big tip, who to give extra sugar too because they're too nervous to ask for it themselves, which families will clean up after themselves. Obviously not.
The sticky brown tables are lined with half-eaten meals and a few bills that people left behind before running off.
You can hear the stove humming lowly in the kitchen and the man's heavy breathing accompanying it.
"I don't know who Clarence is, sir." your tone matches his, harsh and unwilling. It's nine forty-five on a Saturday and all you want is five minutes of sleep. "So either order something or leave. It's company policy.” you pick up a creased piece of laminated paper that says pretty much what you did but in a much more formal narrative.
His face contorts into a snarl as he glares at you, lips curling and nostrils flaring in a way that immediately makes you regret your sudden surge of confidence.
"You're lucky I don't hit women," he mutters under his breath.
Those words alone are enough to make your skin crawl. It's a threat, a cleverly disguised one, but a threat all the same.
"I'll ask one more time, sweetie. Do you know Clarence?" his voice is painfully condescending. Under different circumstances you would have chewed his ear off.
Before you get a chance to snap back at him the bell chimes as someone else enters the diner. You thank God, and whoever else is up there with him, that you are no longer alone.
It's a regular- Peter. You flash an uneasy smile, willing him to get the hint.
His mousy brown hair hangs flat on his head, a few strands wrapped around his daughter's pudgy fingers. Lazily, he turns to face you, eyes narrowing as he takes in your nervous expression.
“Everything alright?” he asks.
The man scoffs and rolls his eyes. “We're fine, get your coffee and go.”
It takes him a second, round brown eyes darting between the two of you before he sucks in a sharp breath and nods his head.
Peter knows he isn't intimidating, painfully the opposite. It’s almost impossible for him to come across as anything other than naïvely friendly… perhaps a little agitating, though. There's never a moment where a charismatic grin isn't etched into his thin, rosy lips or an awkward joke said to ease the tension. According to him, it’s his Achilles heel.
Hurriedly, he excuses himself and Mayday and pushes his chair away from the counter before stumbling out the door. Your eye twitches with slight irritation but you push past it; there’s no point staying angry with Peter when he didn't have any obligation to ‘save’ you.
Smirking, the man looks at you. It’s just the two of you now.
You know you shouldn't have begged to take the closing shift alone. You had assumed you’d keep all the tips, get to clean up with whatever music you like playing and have some downtime before trudging through the busy New York streets. And now you know how idiotic it was to think that.
“Hey, bebita.” the shrill sound of the bell doesn't do anything to dampen obnoxiously loud entrance.
You drag your gaze over to the source of the tall shadow that’s blanketing the top of the sticky, wooden counter. It takes you no time at all to recognise that sturdy build and dark heap of slicked-back curls.
Your eyes scrunch as your lips utter a silent thank you to God for freeing you from the burden of this creep and a little less grateful plea to get rid of Miguel as soon as possible.
Don't get it wrong, you couldn't be happier someone has come to rescue you from whoever this balding weirdo is but you might be a little more giddy with glee if it wasn't Miguel. It’s not that he's a bad guy or anything but things can get a little tense between people when one of them stands the other one up.
Miguel slides onto one of the stools next to the man, who is now looking considerably less confident now that there's a 6’9 man sitting next to him.
“Can I get a coffee, please,” he orders with an awkward curve of his lips that doesn't quite form a smile.
“She’s busy right now, might want to go someplace else, lad,” the stranger says with a nod towards the door, almost trying to act pally with Miguel. But he knows better than that- surely.
You can see Miguel’s jaw tensing from the corner of your eye but you brush past it, finding amusement in his irritation.
“You know how I like it, black, no sugar,” he says before turning his attention back to the man.
You make your way down to the other end of the counter where the coffee pot sits, encompassed by splodgy brown rings stained into the wood. You wonder how long you can stay down here, how many excuses you can come up with before one of them grows weary and snaps.
The wash cloth is still damp, you know it is because you wiped everywhere down at least fifty times whilst waiting for your unwanted visitor to leave. You begin to scrub the battered wood again, trying in vain to remove the surplus of coffee stains that you know won’t budge.
It’s not even late and you’re exhausted. Just the thought of getting on the train has your eyes growing heavy and shoulders sagging. And now, you have to deal with two of the most irritating people to exist.
“Hurry up with his coffee, we have things to talk about!”
You whip your head around, eyes narrowed with spite and lips parted to spew whatever crude insult spills out first but Miguel beats you to it.
“What?” he scoffs.
“She’s taking forever, acting like we have all the time in the fucking world!”
Without any hesitation, Miguel is up, towering over the balding reprobate. His expression is calm, surprisingly, but the slight clench of his jaw can't hide from your watchful gaze. You’re tempted to intervene, cautious of the mess Miguel’s infamous outbursts leave behind, but this loathsome man getting put in his place is more than worth it.
“Apologise.”
The man swallows, yellowing eyes widened with panic. On his own, the man is intimidating. He’s taller than you and it’s easy to tell he works out but he's no Miguel. Side by side, he looks like an influenza-ridden Victorian child whilst Miguel continues to stand proud, attracting all attention like a pompous black hole.
His chapped lips move but no intelligible words come out, just a serious of worthless splutters and squeaks.
Miguel rolls his eyes. “Apologise to the lady. Now.”
Only silence follows. Silence so soft and crisp you swear you can hear the snowflakes falling on the dirtied pavements outside before they instantly melt away. That’ll be fun walking home in.
“Por dios,” Miguel groans, “You have one last chance, tell her you’re sorry or I’m dragging you out and telling everyone how much of an uneducados, baboso bastardo you are!”
“I-i only understood bastardo,” the man stammers and you just about manage to muffle the chuckle that bubbles in your chest.
“Getting kicked out it is,” Miguel sighs.
You watch through amused eyes as Miguel grabs him by his tattered collar and drags him towards the door. The man continues to protest this, blabbering about how he's more than happy to apologise and that he has friends in high-up places who won't be pleased to hear about this, but Miguel doesn't care.
He chucks him out into the street and you don't even have to see his face to know he’s smirking as the idiot lands flat on his ass because you are too.
The bell chimes his entrance once again, a proud grin on his face as he saunters towards you.
“So?” he questions expectantly.
Pushing past your amusement, you shrug your shoulders.
“I just kicked out some dick head for you and you’re not gonna say anything?”
“He didn't get a chance to pay, so you’re gonna have to cover it.” you flash him a sarcastic smile before picking up the tip jar and pushing it towards him, “and tip.”
His eyes narrow before he pulls out his wallet and behind to leaf through a series of wrinkled tens and twenties before pulling out a fifty. “Treat yourself.”
Again, you offer a forced smile before taking the jar away and opening the register to change the fifty for five tens. Your ears perk at the sound of his exasperated sigh, the corner of your mouth twitching into a grin at his irritation.
“You are so petty you know that, hermosa?”
You slam the register shut, mettle blooming in your chest at the dumbfounded expression on Miguel’s face.
You remain unblinking as you glare at him, not a slither of emotion is present on your face other than pure unbridled spite. You’ve never been able to wrap your head around his confidence. Sure, he's conventionally attractive and can tell you how the reason you never see stars at night isn't because of all the light pollution but because they know they’ll never compare to the grace of your smile or the dazzling beauty of your eyes all in Spanish. But is he really that amazing?
He pulls out a small metal tube from his pocket and pops it open. “Toothpick?” he offers, sliding one between his lips, “cherry flavoured.”
You keep staring disdainfully at him, expression unmoving.
“I’m starting to understand why he was in such a grump,” he mutters to himself, although his eyes are still carefully trained on you, “with service like this, any man would end up in a funk like that.”
That does it. You slam your fists on the tacky counter with a furious groan. You’re so fucking tired, not one single person in this entire rat-filled city has manners, the last thing you need is some self-obsessed playboy messing with your emotions.
Palms stinging , you look back up at him. His eyes are slightly widened but he stays silent, slightly baffled by whatever just happened.
“Get out, Miguel.”
He scoffs and stays where he is, clearly not oblivious to how infuriating he is.
“I’m not joking. Get out.”
His expression falters slightly but again, he simply refuses to move.
“I am so tired of people walking all over me, not an ounce of courtesy or anything. I'm not letting you, of all people, treat me the same.”
Slowly, he stands up, pushing his toothpick holder into his inside pocket.
“Please,” your voice cracks as tears sting the corners of your eyes, “just get out.”
You don't wait to hear the door close before allowing yourself to crumple, head falling onto your folded arms on the counter while unwanted tears trail down your cheeks.
You can’t believe you just broke down that, completely unprovoked. Miguel didn't help but whatever just happened was… it was more than unnecessary it was just plain childishness. How could you have allowed yourself to get so worked up? Normally you’re so collected, and always know how to act, yet the second that cocky idiot is around your emotions run havoc.
Then, your nose breathes in that familiar cedar and menthol smell. Internally, you groan.
“Look, I’m sorry that was out of order,” he mutters.
You roll your eyes. It's all well and good being able to apologize for being a dick one time but when you're continuously being a douche the effect tends to wear off.
“How did you even get behind here?” you mumble into your arms.
Ignoring your question, he slowly wraps an arm around your waist. You jump, at first, but allow yourself to relax. It’s nice being held, even if it's awkwardly and by someone you detest.
“Let me walk you to your car.”
What a gentleman.
Sniffling, you lift your head and turn to face him. “I don't have a car, Miguel!” you croak out.
What could pass as either a pout or a thoughtful frown forms on his lips as he stares at you. Whatever it is, it reeks of sympathy that you didn't ask for.
“I’m sorry.”
“You’ve said that.”
“No. I’m sorry about before.”
You scoff. It’s like he refuses to listen to you on purpose.
He runs his fingers through his hair, a sigh pushing past his lips. “I’m sorry about not showing up.”
It takes a second or two before you get what he means. You raise your brow, taken aback by his sudden ability to take just enough responsibility to apologize but not enough to actually say what he did. It’s funny, in a way, that it took you having to yell at him and break down crying before it even clicked that he should apologize.
“It’s fine, you were a dick and I got over it.” you lie.
He scowls, clearly unimpressed by the lack of enthusiasm his apology earned him. He steps a little closer, fingers grazing against your middle. Instinctively, your stomach clenches at the contact but you don't move away.
“That’s… that’s fair.”
You hum in agreement but remain silent.
“Forgot how to speak?” his voice is smooth like velvet but you don't take the bait. You’ve been in this position before, Miguel holding you close, a sudden softness to his demeanour whilst he comforts you. And last time it ended with you crying into your pillow until you fell asleep.
His hand turns your face towards him, thumb tracing the outline of your lower lip. “Que niña tan linda,” he utters.
Your upper lip curls up in disgust and you push him away. You might be exhausted and emotionally distraught but that doesn't mean you don't have common sense.
Something, you’re not quite sure what, flickers across his expression as he bites down on his bottom lip.
Defensively, he holds his hands up and takes a dramatic step away. “Misread the room.”
You laugh. Again, it's not even a proper apology, just something to clear his conscious until he does something equally as idiotic. It would take a miracle for him to give a heartfelt, meaningful apology and you sincerely doubt any miracles are coming his way.
Another awkward silence fills the room. It's not like the one before, though, there’s no fear of death or ill-mannered slobs taking up all thinking space. Just you and Miguel, stood dangerously close while you cumbersomely sniffle away your tears.
You can feel it, Miguel’s intense gaze burning holes into the side of your face. He doesn't look away, just keeps staring at you, unblinking and unmoving.
“Bebita.” you allow yourself to look at him. The harsh, flickering yellow lights hang close to his head and burn the corners of your eyes. “I think you’re the most beautiful girl in the world.”
“If you thought so, I wouldn't have been left standing outside the movies for an hour in the rain waiting for you,” you mutter snidely.
Ditching his previous tactics for forgiveness, he groans. “I told you already, I was busy.”
Everyone had warned you to watch out for guys like Miguel- the loud, cocky ones that only think with their dick. But you’ve never been one to listen, not to overbearing second cousins and patronising aunts, anyway.
Your ignorance of their advice hadn’t done much, though, because as much as you’d pretended, they were right. He knows he could have any girl he wants, all he’d have to do is flash her that signature smirk, maybe wrap one of his toned arms around her waist, and they’re putty in his hands.
And you'd fallen for his flirtatious trap once before. Hook, line and sinker.
You force your gaze away, deciding eye contact with him isn't worth the optical damage that will surely present itself sooner or later.
“You have a house phone, could have called me or the diner, hell- Peter would have been happy to be your little messenger pigeon!” it all comes out at once, a toxic blur of anger and regret that has been burning in your chest since the moment he walked in tumbling out your mouth before you could get a chance to stop yourself. “You are the scum of the earth, Miguel. I hope you know that.”
He lets your words settle in the air, arm slowly retracting from your waist and coming to rest on the countertop. His lips are pursed into a tight line that hides all emotion but the remnants of a frown tug his brown eyes downwards.
“Peter had come out, before, telling me that some creep was in there bothering you.” he glances back down at you, waiting for something other than fury to be represented on your face only to realise his optimism was all in vain and continuing on. “And I thought… maybe if I sort this out for her, she’ll forgive me.”
“You trying to be a good person now doesn't make standing me up okay.” you pause, angling yourself to face him, a sudden wave of sympathy crashing over you at the sight of his shiny eyes. “I forgive you, for now.”
This time, he doesn't even try to hide the pleased smirk on his face. His obnoxiously sharp canines poke proudly over his bottom lip and that ridiculous cocky twinkle is back in his eyes. If he was a dog, his tail would be wagging to no end.
“Does this mean we’re friends now?”
You scrunch your nose and shake your head. “I can't be friends with someone who tips with a fifty, it’s too ironic and tacky.”
He clutches his chest in feigned offence before a low chuckle rumbles from deep within his chest.
You aren't too sure what you are, in all honesty. The two of you had started off as acquaintances, which led to a strange friendship which had snowballed into him kissing you in the kitchen after closing hours before he stood you up on your first proper date. And now you’re both here, laughing even though you’re certain you wanted him dead almost a minute ago.
Notes: The pain starts now, buckle in. Also I'm thinking going forward of adding more rivalry stuff w the Miguel's and also maaybbeee some voyeurism with them spesifically, if anyones up for that lemme know
For the entire walk back, you were both completely silent. He crawled into the nest and dropped you down on the bed, gentle but firm, and then immediately crawled back out to prepare for the storm. He didn’t give you a chance to call him back.
In this rigid isolation, you were forced to pace about the darkening room as he shuttered the place down. He was true to his word, ensuring that the windows and doors were fully covered and that there were no leaks. He was still making sure you were safe and warm, something you did appreciate, but his continued refusal to speak was becoming hard to cope with.
You paced, and paced, listening to the rain get harder and harder. In the distance you heard thunder crack. It was like white noise, overpowering all of your attempts to hear your own thoughts, weighing on your mind and soul.
Eventually you simply couldn’t pace any longer and slumped down onto the mattress to think.
You just couldn’t get over this order 1675.
You didn’t want to be afraid. You didn’t want to doubt him. Really, truly, you didn’t. But, how were you supposed to feel about this? He’d said he had no interaction with the HQ. He’d said he was just out here, alone. How was that possible if this order 1675 thing was also true? How well did you really know him? And what was so important that Miguel, despite being desperate to bring it up, was legally unable to?
You’d known him for a while, but, had you ever really discussed his past? Now that you were thinking about it, you really hadn’t.
It was hard to stop your mind from wandering to unsavoury places, the worst possible places. You didn’t want to sit here, wallowing in fear. You cared about this man. You’d given him so much, and he’d given you just as much if not more. You wanted to trust him.
When Mig eventually re-entered the nest he was soaking wet, and had to physically shake his body dry. He ensured the door was shut before slumping down onto the dry silk floor, and suddenly you were alone, just the two of you here with the rain howling outside.
‘Mig?’
The mention of his name made him bristle and freeze. He was hiding his face, something that you weren’t used to him doing.
‘Mig… What did he mean?’ you asked softly.
Again, silence. You saw Mig gently clenching and unclenching his fists.
‘What are you referring too?’ he murmured back.
‘The um- the section 1675, thing. That they couldn’t talk about.’
‘I… I can’t, talk about it, arañita.’
You squished your lips together and shuffled with discomfort. ‘You said… that you met Miguel, once, to be recruited. You said he was territorial, and left. You never said you had any other engagement with the society.’
When Miguel turned it was slow. In the dark of the storm only half his face was lit, his fiery red eye flickering as the lamplight danced.
‘I did.’
You were shocked to see that his blunt but neutral face was gone, faded away to reveal something deeply troubled beneath. You'd never seen those gaunt lines beneath his eyes before. He looked cold.
‘You- did you, lie?’ you croaked.
‘No’ he said, blunt as ever. ‘No. That was just, the partial truth.’
‘Can… Can I know the full truth?’
You were trying to be gentle with your words, but it was hard to not sound concerned. You saw his red eye narrow, and in the dark it was hard to tell if it was out of anger or pain.
‘It- I don’t, know, how’ he said. He sounded like it hurt to talk. ‘It happened a long time ago, arañita. They signed a deal saying that it would be stricken from my record. That’s what 1675 means, it’s the process for wiping an incident so it can’t be used in the future because the person was exonerated. Miguel- wanted to bring it up to, well, punish me I suppose, but it meant he couldn’t.’
‘Okay, just… I’m just, asking then, what was it?’
Again, Mig went still. He went silent. A good five minutes passed without either of you saying a word.
‘You really won’t tell me anything?’ you whispered.
You watched as Mig turned to face you fully. The pounding rain created an oppressive air, especially combined with the overwhelming darkness. His eyes were the only clear part of his face, their red light crudely illuminating his sharp features.
He didn’t speak, but he did move. To your surprise he suddenly rose up and began walking towards you.
‘Mig, I just- I want to know—’
He reached out to grab you, and then he stopped. You froze in his grip.
He’d put just a single hand beneath your head, cupping it to his chest. You felt his heart beating irregularly beneath his hefty ribs, his breath coming in shaky fragmented gulps.
‘I’m sorry’ he murmured.
‘Mig, what- what are you sorry for?’
‘I forgot.’
Those two words brought your awkward attempt at consolation to a halt. When you looked up and spied his face through the dark, he wasn’t looking at you. He was looking at nothing, perhaps seeing something you couldn’t see.
‘I forgot what I am’ he breathed. It sounded painful, like each intake of breath was burning.
‘Mig?’
‘Arañita, I can’t lie to you’ Mig whispered. ‘I can’t. You know that. So if you ask me, I will tell you it all. I need you to know that.’
Those words were so eerily in this context. Did you want to know? Did you need to know? You hated yourself for it, but, you did.
‘Yes’ you breathed. ‘I… I am asking you, please, Mig, to tell me.’
You felt him shudder. Despite his reservations, his fears, he was still honest to a fault. He spoke.
‘I… Arañita, I-I killed someone.’
You stared straight ahead as silence fell. You didn’t know how to respond. Really, how could you respond?
‘I’m sorry’ he rasped. You saw his eyes filling to the brim, causing the red of his eyes to dance. ‘I’m so sorry.’
‘Mig…?’ You whispered his name, letting it hang in the air as you both trembled in unison.
You were waiting, praying, for an explanation. You were praying for something. Anything. Surely, Mig had a reason, right? There had to be more to this?
For a fleeting second, your body tensed. For a single, fleeting second, you realized you were scared of him. You prayed to not be.
‘Mig, what- what happened?’ you croaked.
You could feel his heartbeat speeding up in his chest, hammering like a frightened bird in a cage. ‘I-I didn’t want to do it’ he gasped, ‘I didn’t- I swear. It- was someone, very close to me, and—’
‘It’s okay. It’s okay. I’m listening’ you said, trying in vain to reassure yourself. He took a moment to collect himself before continuing.
‘They- When I was changed, at Alchemax, it was- chaos. Someone had sabotaged the genetic splicing machine to kill me. I wasn’t supposed to survive. I certainly wasn’t supposed to be- this. This, monster. I was scared of myself, I didn’t know what to do or how to fix it. I was panicking. So… so, I went to someone I thought I could trust. I thought they would- I thought, they would help, because they’d always helped me before, but... I couldn’t talk them down, I couldn’t—’
He paused to breath in deep, his breath rattling his chest.
‘I—I tried, arañita I swear on my soul I tried, but they were too scared. They could never get passed what they saw in front of them. They didn't see- me, anymore. It was like I was dead already. They tried to kill me, the- they grabbed a gun, from a drawer, and my body- reacted. I tried to just turn the gun away but their finger was already pulling and—it hit them.’
You exhaled slowly, releasing a breath you’d been holding for far too long. ‘So- it was, self-defence?’ you murmured.
‘Yes. Technically, it was self-defence’ he said with a heavy swallow.
‘And… Miguel was going to use that against you?’ you asked in disbelief. ‘Why? Why would he do that?’
Mig tensed to a painful degree. Something seemed to be flashing over his eyes. It was a memory, old and worn, of someone whose face he was forgetting. Like a painting in water, its colour slowly seeping away, he clung to those remnants. You felt him shake.
‘It was m—mm… Mmm.’ He screwed up his eyes tight. ‘The person, I killed, w… The person I killed was my fiancé, at the time. Her name was, Dana.’
The rain roared overhead, screaming like a beast. It shook the nest a little as the wind ripped through the trees. Miguel looked haunted.
‘I should have called my brother’ he whispered. ‘I—I shouldn’t have answered her call. I was meant to call my brother. I should have… I should have—’
‘Hey, shh. It’s okay.’ You tried to reassure him by taking his hand, letting him feel each one of your fingers to keep him grounded. ‘We can stop, but- I’m here. If you want to keep going. It’s okay.’
It took a moment, but you felt him settle.
‘The- the spider society found me not long after it happened’ he said, continuing in a trance. ‘Miguel had been planning to recruit me when he’d seen my change, hoping to have another version of him around, but… he found, me. And he found her.’
His eyes glazed over as those long-repressed memories crept across his mind like tar, an inescapable choking flood of remorse. He saw the blood on the carpet, the blood on his talons as he plugged the wound, his variants face when he realized what he’d done. It took your gentle face taps to draw him back to the present moment.
‘Mig?’ you whispered. He shuddered a gasp and tried to continue.
‘Me and Miguel… Our lives, before the splice, were almost identical. Same job, same parents, same body, and same- same, fiancé. His version of Dana just left after he changed, after he found out about his past, but mine…’
Mig paused again to avoid cracking. You kept your hands on his stomach, slowly rubbing over the fine contours of his muscles to keep him grounded.
‘He was disgusted by me, but he was still sympathetic, in a way’ Mig said. ‘I think I just proved him right about his own tendencies. I was exonerated by the society, on self-defence, and it was stricken from any record so long as I agreed to stay away from other people, so… so they didn’t get, hurt, out of- fear.’
‘Mig, that—’ You couldn’t even get the words out. It horrified you. He was almost murdered because his body scared someone he’d trusted, and he was then told to isolate? To remove himself, so he didn’t tempt anyone to try and murder him again?
‘I was exonerated, but… Arañita, I killed someone to keep living. Someone- better than me. Someone with a life, with- love and aspiration and family, and—why? Why did I survive?’
Even with your touch grounding him in the moment he was continuing the spiral. He couldn’t stop his memories from seeping into his vision. He couldn’t stop seeing the same wound on your side, or the blood on his claws.
‘I forgot…’
Mig choked back the urge to crack. Oh god. Was Miguel right?
Was this, right? No. No. In that moment, the reality of it all hit him like a bullet to the gut.
He’d been deluding himself, hadn’t he? High on the rush of being wanted, of having this unobtainable thing, but it was unobtainable for a reason.
He was a monster. He was a horrible genetic failure, who most of the world saw as malformed and mishappen. They would hate him for desiring you. HE hated him for desiring you. You would never get to experience a normal life if you stayed here with him, unable to have a normal family or a normal home.
In the woods you could forget the prying eyes of the world and exist on your own terms, open and honest, but could you hide forever?
He’d always hated Miguel for treating him differently, for beguiling him as a manifestation of his own internal issues, but could he really blame him for it? Miguel could pass for human. He was beautiful, strong, respected. Some string of fate that had failed for Mig had, on a coin toss, granted his counterpart the right to pass in a world where he was loved. No wonder he felt so entitled.
And you, you, his sweet little spider. The one person who hadn’t hurt him, who hadn’t run from him in fear. He’d wanted to believe it so badly. He’d wanted to believe that your optimism would be enough.
But he did not pass.
He was not a threat. He was not a danger. He was guilty only of existing in a body, but that didn’t matter. It didn’t matter whether their fear was rational or not. He was a spider, after all, and—
‘Everybody hates spiders’ he whispered. You gazed up at his broken face with misty eyes.
‘Miggy?’ you whispered back. His eyes narrowed as he winced, as if just the thought was physically painful.
‘Why’ he breathed, both a question and a statement at once. ‘Why? I-I tried, I tried—’
‘Miggy—’
‘What did I do?! I tried to do the right thing and this— This—’
‘Miggy, hey, sweetheart. Look at me. Look at me.’
‘Why wasn’t I made like him? What was so wrong with me?’ he seethed, his voice peaking and cracking as he verged on wailing. Immediately your hands flew to his waist. You clung to him as his chest heaved, his breathing quickly becoming erratic.
‘I’m disgusting’ he choked. ‘I’m disgusting—’
‘Hey, hey. I’m here. I’m here.’
‘I’m ruining you’ he shouted, his voice raising for the first time. 'Look at me! Look at me, and then look at you!'
He pushed you back a little to make you see, to make you see his bloody red eyes and malformed torso, the way his human half blended into that enormous spider half. The fur on his abdomen, the deep scars and claws on each paw, the furthest thing from human. A body that your brain was hardwired to recognise as alien.
'I can’t give you anything!' he sobbed. 'They’ll- they’ll hunt you down, for the rest of your life if you stay with me. They won’t let us have a family, they won’t let us stay together—’
‘I don’t care.'
Mig paused, briefly, in the face of your quiet interuption. You were unnervingly calm. ‘You do!’ he wailed. ‘Of course you do! You will be miserable because of me!’
‘I don’t.’ You clung to him tight as you whispered those words, your hands frantically stroking his back to try and ground him again. ‘I don’t. I don’t. I—I don’t, care.’
‘Why?’
You pulled back briefly to take his face in your hands. You squished his cheeks against your palms as your thumb gently wiped away a tear from his eye. He heaved at you, his lips parted and his eyes a painfully bloody red, and you met him without a shred of fear in your eyes.
‘Look at me, Miggy. Right here. It’s okay.’
Mig struggled to meet your gaze. His eyes kept closing, flitting, as if it hurt. You tried to press a kiss to his lips but he sharply flinched, so instead you kept his face in one palm and with the other you raised his hand to your lips. You kissed his claws instead, one after the other.
‘Fuck ‘em’ you said, blunt and clear. The bluntness seemed to draw Miguel out of his spiral for just a moment.
‘What?’ he panted.
‘Fuck them’ you repeated. ‘Fuck them. Fuck Miguel. Fuck- all of them. It’s- disgusting, THIS is disgusting. You should never have been left out here. You should never have had to sign away your right to contact. I don’t care if they pull out every fucking excuse in the book to keep me away, I won’t give them anything to use. I won’t leave you.’
‘But… the, family— The rule about, reproducing—’
‘That’s not enough to make me just leave you right now!’ you exclaimed. ‘I don’t know what’ll happen in the future, but there’s options. Surrogacy, adoption, or just- maybe we don’t want kids. I mean- fuck, even if we don’t have a future romantically, I won’t just leave you, Mig. I won’t.’
‘But—’
‘If I leave you, Mig, it will be on my own terms. In a year, two years, twenty years. Maybe we just- aren’t compatible, maybe we change, or- maybe we don’t. I don’t know. But I’m not walking out because of someone else’s irrational fear. You- you’re still my friend. No matter what, you’re still my friend.’
As your words hung in the air, Mig began to soften. His mind stopped playing tricks on him, showing him her instead of you, because she never looked at him this way. Those sweet, defiant eyes bore down into his soul, and warmed it from the inside.
‘I was scared, when I saw you first’ you confessed. ‘You know that. On instinct, you scared me. And I- HATE myself for that. Because you are so, sweet, and soft, and kind, and the fact you could still care about me after I showed you the same fear—’
‘No, no. You didn’t. And that- that’s what I don’t understand’ he insisted. ‘Why do you like me?’
‘Because you’re- you. That’s it. You’re you.’
Mig narrowed his eyes. He seemed so confused, like he couldn't figure out how to believe you.
‘You would- risk this, for me?’ he murmured.
‘You’ve clearly risked just as much, Mig. The last person you loved tried to kill you, the- the fact that, you trusted me enough to let me into your home, to sleep in your bed, that you tried to help me at all… I can’t imagine it.’
The rain continued to thunder outside as Miguel calmed his breathing. He was still hurting, still in a semi state of mania, but he was starting to claw back a semblance of strength. He clung to you a little tighter.
He fixated wholly on one memory, a buoy in an ocean of blood: the first day you met, when you looked at him in his defensive stance, and you said: ‘Have, other people come here to hurt you?’
He didn’t scare you, you’d said. He seemed nice, you’d said. We’re both strange on the inside, you’d said. Words more precious than diamonds. Words more precious than living.
‘I think… I understand now, why spiders eat each other’ he murmured.
You frowned with your hand still on his cheek. ‘You- what? What do you mean?’ you asked.
‘I would let you eat me’ he whispered, as one more fat tear fell like a bloody pearl down the cut of his cheek bone. It glistened as it hit your thumb, a precious stone filled with a tiny little part of his soul. You shook your head.
‘Mig, don’t- that language isn’t healthy right now—’
‘I would let you eat me’ he repeated. His voice was throaty from holding back tears. ‘Every- ounce of flesh, every bone, every atom. You would take me in, and I would finally become part of something beautiful. I would haunt your beautiful body, and look through those beautiful eyes, and we would be- magnificent.’
Your lips folded, hard, as your own eyes narrowed. The tears were painful.
‘No. You’re beautiful to me’ you croaked. ‘So just- stay. As you are.’
You leaned in and pressed your forehead to his, and this time he didn’t pull away. You rocked with him as the storm rattled the shutters, as rain pounded on the nest roof above.
Slowly, with absolute delicacy, you pressed your lips to his. You gave one peck before pulling back, and from there you let him lead. He kissed you with quivering lips, first on the mouth and then on the cheek, before ending with one, long, drawn out kiss.
When he pulled away his breathing had become a little more regulated.
‘So’ he whispered, ‘so- what do we do? What do we do now?’
You let out a heavy breath through the nose as you pondered that same question. ‘I guess… we just, keep, trying. I will go back to the society, and I’ll do what they ask me to do as a member, and—I’ll stay. With you. And we’ll see how things go.’
‘But they threatened to regulate us’ he said.
‘They said we can’t have kids. That’s it. And, even then, I’m sure I could get them to research if it’s actually dangerous. Other than that, they can’t do anything. So, we just keep going.’
Mig sighed, his warm breath hitting your face. ‘And, you’re sure you want this? You want to, try, with me? Even after this?’
You locked your gaze onto Mig’s. His eyes were red to the core but round like a puppies, soft and wet and needy. His thick brows were downturned in a hopeless expression of need. It was easy for you to nod.
‘Yes. I want to try. Now, come on, let’s- lie you down.’
You shuffled backwards onto the mattress and Mig obediently followed, his entire spider half gently curling around you. He curled into a circle with his legs folded inward, cocooning you in his warmth, and you listened to the storm burn itself out.
The thundering rain turned to a drizzle, until all you could hear was the pitter of drops on the roof. The lanterns on the wall burned their wax stubs to nothing. Soon the only light in the nest was a single strip of blue moonlight that’d broken through a shutter, its delicate glow highlighting your bodies as they intertwined.
In the warm and the dry you settled against his chest. You felt his heart on your cheek and rubbed his body for comfort, and he clung to you like a little plush toy.
‘Arañita?’ he whispered.
‘Yeah?’
‘Thank you’ he choked. ‘Thank you. Thank you.’

Synopsis ✰ Miguel has been spending more and more time in his office. He's broken his promises numerous times. He'd promised to take you out or spend time with you at home. This time was the last straw, and it caused you to blow up at him.
Cw ✰ Angst, Neglect of a relationship, Miguel being a workaholic, arguing, and not proofread.
A/N ✰ This is based on the song Put That Woman First by Jaheim
You sat on your couch in a beautiful black dress that you had bought for this occasion. Miguel was supposed to take you out for your 3 year anniversary but he was late. You try to give him the benefit of the doubt. 'Where is he? He was supposed to be here at 7.' You thought as you sat on the couch continuously smoothing your dress. It was 7:45 and he still wasn't here.
3 hours have passed it was about you being 11 pm. The reservation for the restaurant was gone, and you were pissed. You go upstairs and change into comfortable clothes and sit back on the couch. A few moments later a tired look Miguel strolled into the house. You look at him not going to him as usual.
"Cariño, I.." He trailed off.
You knew what he was going to say. He lost track of time, but this time that excuse wouldn't cut it.
"Miguel, it was our fucking 3 year anniversary and you fucking bailed on me again!" You raised your voice.
"I didn't mean I-" Miguel got cut off by you.
"You lost track of time. That shit isn't going to cut it this time, Miguel." You said standing up.
"I understand you're mad but I have to protect the Arachnoid Humanoid Poly-Multiverse.." he said trying to reach out to him.
You backed up and groaned. You didn't want him to touch you at that moment.
"So the multiverse is more important than our relationship?!" You yelled.
"Fuck! I'm trying to protect the fucking world Y/N!" He yelled back rubbing his temples.
"So it's more important than me?" Your voice boom through the room.
"Everyone has to make sacrifices!" His voice echoed through your head.
You look at him, and your eyes threaten to spill tears. You couldn't believe him. Your hand goes to the promise ring he put on your finger for your 2-year anniversary and you slip it off. You walk to him slamming the ring into his hand.
"Since the fucking multiverse is so damn important. You can date that." You said your eyes still threatening to spill.
"What are you talking about? Y/N are breaking up with me over this of all things?" He questioned his voice filled with frustration.
"This..? This! This was the final fucking straw, Miguel. You've disappointed me multiple times! You broke promises multiple times. You've bailed on me multiple times!" You yelled.
That's when it finally clicked. Miguel finally realized that he wasn't giving you attention. He wasn't being a good boyfriend. You guys argued more frequently now. You were more short-tempered, and it was his fault.
"Y/N..I...I'm sorry...I..I didn't mean to.." he said as he gripped the ring in his hand.
"Sorry isn't going to cut it this time Miguel." Your tears finally start to spill from your eyes.
"I need a break..from this..from us." You said as you walked pass him.
He turns around quickly and grabs your arm. You rip you arm from his grip.
"Don't touch me." You said not sparing him a glance.
"Baby, please. I..I can fix this. I'll work less. I'll show you more attention, please. Please Y/N. " He has a desperate expression on his face. His voice trembled, and he stuttered over his words.
You've never seen him so desperate but you couldn't do it. You need a break. You grabbed the stuff that you had ready to leave.
"I'll see you at work, Miguel." You said.
"Where are you going?" He asked as he followed you to the front door.
"A friend's house." You said.
And with that, you were gone. Miguel's heart shattered. He swore he wouldn't lose anyone else. He swore when he put that promise ring in your hand that he'd love you unconditionally. It was his fault. For the first time, in years he slept in the bed alone. He didn't have your comforting warmth to cuddle to. His mind raced. He knew he messed up. You were the one who held him when he had nightmares. You were the one who accepted him for his flaws. You were the one who loved him as no one loved him before, and now you weren't here. Miguel hugged your pillow to feel like you were still here. Work tomorrow was going to be agonizing for him.
A/N ✰ I'm going to write part two. I haven't written angst in a little while. I'll add a link to pt.2 when I write it.
