I started rewatching 9-1-1 from season 5 because I feel like seasons 5,6 and 7 kind of blur together in a lot of ways for me and oh my god why is the show like this????

I feel like season 5 marks the beginning of the “wasted potential” era of the show. Taylor? Wasted potential. Nathalia??? Barely even a character. Jonah paramedic serial killer arc? Shoved into one episode and erased from history. The double whammy of Buck sperm donor crisis and Eddie having to confront Chris growing up. SO MUCH POTENTIAL HERE FOR BUCK AND EDDIE TO TALK ABOUT PARENTHOOD???? And yet nothing

I could go on. So many things that they set up and resolve way too quickly. Or things that they set up and then completely erase in the following seasons. I’m looking at you Eddie Diaz working through trauma for two seasons and then getting with the dead wife doppelgänger

Buck and Eddie really are made for each other because the writers are so clueless about what to do with either of them

eddie talking about how buck doesn't understand that chimney might be right and maddie might need someone to chase after and take care of her even though buck doesn't see it that way bc shes always taken care of buck is such an important thing to come from eddie who has spent all of his life taking care of people bc no one realizes that HE needs taken care of, and no one has ever properly taken care of HIM, even in the context of buck, so much of it has been about taking care of christopher. i do think buck has done the most and has done a lot for eddie but with chris gone, i'd love to see buck, or really anyone, properly take care of just eddie in s8

THEY CANNOT PUT BOBBY HAVING TO FIGHT AND SAVE HIS STEPDAUGHTER FROM A BURNING ROOM IN THE SAME EPISODE THAT CHIMNEY HAS TO WATCH HIS BROTHER ALMOST FALL INTO A COLLAPSING ROOF.

like sorry. are we just mixing both of their traumas in the same episode???? bobby having to save his daughter from a situation he couldn't before and chimney being able to reach his brother in time this time. WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY ON. At first with it just being bobby and may I was like "oh! Okay we're using his backstory here this is fun and traumatic" BUT THEN YOU BRING CHIMNEY ASWELL IN THE SAME 5 MINUTES WHAT THE FUCK. Two of my favourites going through it in the span of 5 minutes 🫠

Okay sooo I have another bucktommy idea!! It is up for the taking as usual, and please tag me should you use it!!

Instead of Lucy, Tommy is the one transferred to the 118 in S5.

(Up to you why he needed to transfer temporarily. Problems with a member of the crew? Is recovering from an injury and will need some months before he can get back to piloting and that's why he's being juggled between houses? Has Bobby reached out to him and asked this as a favour and Tommy agreed?)

Hen and Bobby are both very happy to have Tommy back even just for some months and Bobby brags to the others that he found someone who will be a perfect temporary solution, keeping it hush hush to surprise Hen.

Tommy is immediately brought into their fold, and Jonah is obviously envious about it... You can go where you want with that.

Tommy is brought in as a partner for Buck, as a calming effect to Buck's kind of erratic behaviour lately (followed by him feeling abandoned by Maddie, Chim and Eddie + his frying relationship with Taylor). Buck is over his head about Tommy, and is eager to become friends with him (and also very iffy when someone tries to steal Tommy's attention from him). He also introduces Tommy to Eddie in an effort to connect him with someone with a military background and they hit it off, tho Buck processes it better since it helps Eddie's mental health. Tommy and Buck both go to Eddie when he has his mental break.

Chim is also very happy about Tommy's return when he comes back with Maddie!

Up to you when Buck breaks up with Taylor (if before or following canon) and I think Tommy wouldn't try to kiss a drunk Buck so... Tommy is too considerate to come between a relationship (shown also by how he went to buck to apologize when he thought he was pissed about taking up Eddie's time in S7) so I'm thinking it could come after Buck has decided to break up with Taylor....

Anyway. Hope someone takes it up and has fun with this!!
