“I missed you too Charlie!” She didn’t protest to her hands being taken into his own. They felt cool and smooth like they always did. But, with her being at work, they didn’t get to play much like they used to. Her eyes lit up at the sight of the piece of candy being offered to her. “Thank you!” She didn’t waste time taking off the wrapper and placing it into her mouth. “Do you want to do something today?” She asked as she chewed.

Her eyes were on the blood on his hands, before he hid it away. “Why would they want to fight you? People don’t usually fight unless they want something, right?” She immediately asked before taking a whiff of the air. “Where is this person?” She was getting hungry after all.

“My, my!” Henry smiled, entering the patient’s room of his private practice to see a familiar face. While the appointments were few and far in between, Henry was always glad to see River come in for his check-ups. River was one of his younger patients compared to all the old folks who frequented his little business, but who could blame the younger crowd? They put all their trust in bigger, more impressive hospitals. “How have you been, River?”
He took a seat in the desk chair fashioned in the corner and rolled his way up to the other. “You certainly look much better from when I last saw you -- such resilience!” but the unspoken truth was that Henry knew something may have manifested the other. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but there was a sensation about him that was different from the many people he interacted with on a daily basis. However, Henry couldn’t seem to shake off the need to keep his interactions with River frequent. It was as if he had an instinctual need to protect.
“Is there any other reason you decided to stop by today?” Henry asked, fashioning up a few devices to take the other’s blood pressure and heart rate. “And saying that you just wanted to see me again is more than a perfect answer,” he chuckled, carefully grabbing River’s arm to shift his sleeve up and wrap the pump around his arm.
