suckerpunch.

girls are so dumb. they’re the ones who leave their valuables in the most vulnerable places; outside pockets, unzipped purses, sometimes just in their own hands. jisu’s snagged more than a couple smartphones off unsuspecting young women, sometimes he even gets lucky and manages to get a wallet too. the boy picks his targets not based on gender though, but based on who just looks easiest to lift from. it just happens that this girl is his unfortunate target.
by his best guess she’s a student, probably around his age, though not at all in the same class as he is. her bag looks designer, her clothes fit well enough that he assumes they’re tailored, and everything about her screams money at him. it’s a far cry from his own hand-me-down clothes, his bag with the broken zippers and splitting seams, even a secondhand school uniform that’s always slightly ill-fitting. perhaps it’s jealousy that motivates him, has him fixate on her despite the other potential targets, even if there might be an easier pocket to pick elsewhere.
the boy moves quickly and quietly, weaving through other pedestrians until he’s falling in pace behind the girl. she doesn’t seem to be paying attention, so he makes his move, carefully unzipping the pocket on her bag with steady hands, waiting for the right moment in her stride where she shouldn’t feel or suspect a thing. it’s not easy work, of course, and jisu has to try to shield what he’s doing from other onlookers as well, but he’s done this thousands of times. there’s no reason why this shouldn’t be like all the others.
