I'd love it if we got some original content musicals like Kaguya Shima Densetsu and The Vampire Arc in the coming years now that we have new musicals for the main storyline. What are your thoughts on original story musicals?
I would absolutely LOVE to have another original story musical! I thought the blend of SM plot elements with the Vampire story in Miyuki’s arc was too messy, but I adore Kaguya Shima Densetsu. Unfortunately I don’t have high hopes that this will happen. The entire 20th/25th anniversary project has been heavily reliant on nostalgia and the closest things we’ve gotten to “new” content are a few illustrations from Naoko and a few plot changes in Crystal. Even those things are still just a reimagining of what already existed rather than truly original content (like, Naoko didn’t even draw new outfits). The Bandai era musicals also jumped around in the timeline a lot and were never billed as sequentially connected. Each Myu and it’s Kaiteiban were sort of their own event. The new musicals have all been considered a series and with the way LMF ended it would be difficult to set a new story after that without the timeline getting messy :( I think they would need to do some sort of big “reset” which would probably mean a change of the entire cast, which would make me sad (but not as sad as no more musicals at all). The musicals have always defied all odds though, so I’ll always hold out hope! One thing I could see happening next year is some sort of special musical revue show, similar to the 10th Anniversary event. The current cast could perform all the hits, some past cast members could show up either just for a talk show or even to perform some of their songs. Despite all the billing of LMF as the grand finale and the “The End” on the screen, in a lot of ways it just didn’t FEEL like the end to the musicals? The speeches were short, weren’t as emotional as I expected, and the dancers didn’t even get to say anything. Maybe this is because the cast all knows another extra performance is in the works, like last year’s Houston and Hokkaido shows, maybe it was just time constraints, or maybe the cast/staff are holding out hope like the rest of us that this isn’t really the end? This is probably way more of an answer than you were looking for but when it comes to myu talk I can’t help myself 8D
