makeup transition reels are misogynistic. like what do you mean you're showcasing your unfiltered self as the “before” look—the one that isnt the final result, rtaher something that needs to be improved—only to “glow up” (which is internet lingo for wearing 5 layers of makeup, an expensive outfit and a filter) into this flawless but staged version of yourself that is not only not real, but also takes so much time, money and effort to create—packed into a 15 sec reel?

you're basically training yourself and your viewers to see your natural self as ugly and define your beauty within unreal and difficult-to-achieve standards. we blame men for calling makeup “catfish” but the people bullying Mikayla for her red carpet appearance are overwhelmingly women. we are so used to seeing women in makeup that we have completely forgotten how women naturally exist and makeup transition reels are guiltier than credited. its disgusting that Mikayla's full face of makeup and glam look has led to people calling her ugly. so we've reached a point where even makeup isn't enough to beauty women. like why WHY do we gotta make it so hard for women??????
