What if mom jokes were just dad jokes that weren't sexist?
My father forwarded these dad jokes to me and while he sent it for laughs, I couldn't help but notice the usage of language to perpetuate sexist biases.
While "he" is a banker, an astronaut, a gym trainer, a librarian, and WHAT NOT, "she" is nothing but a lover. And not just any lover, a foolish lover who is constantly being played by her male love interest. Laughing at these jokes is basically laughing at puns about a pretty common women's experience.
I will not overanalyze a "joke" and make it deeper than it is, I love puns but come on, these are clearly catering to men. A man laughs cause it's relatable, while a woman is just the fool being laughed at.
Such jokes also normalise a lot of harmful tropes and solidify them in our culture via laughter: men being negligent lovers and partners, women being nothing but in love, women being fools, men having diverse careers while women don't, along with heteronormativity.
So here's a modified "mom joke" version of this:
*ENGLISH AT ITS BEST*🤣😜🤣😜🤣
He fell in love with a *Banker* but she showed no *interest.*
He fell in love with an *Astronaut* but he wanted *Space.*
He fell in love with a *Gym Trainer,* but it didn't *Work out.*
They fell in love with a *Librarian,* but her time was always *Booked.*
She fell in love with an *Electrician* but for them there was no *Spark.*
She fell in love with a *Cardiologist* but she broke his *Heart.*
She fell in love with a *Geologist* but the relationship was too *Rocky.*
He fell in love with an *Economist* but she couldn’t supply her *Demands.*
She fell in love with a *Violinist* but they said, *"No Strings attached."*
Laugh away, and not just men this time!
