Release Day Picks: 5/8/20
We are on time this week with ten albums for your weekend listening.
Adeline Hotel - Solid Love (Whatever’s Clever)
- Well, this is a nice surprise. Solid Love is a wandering, eclectic and mature rock record that if you told me was out on Drag City or Woodsist I would be like “sure, makes perfect sense.”

Madeleine Cocolas - Ithaca (Room 40)
- A poignant exploration of all the emotions of moving back to your hometown after years away. Ithaca is a minimal/ambient album that carries a lot of weight.

Glymmur - Comfort Transfer (Healing Sound Propogandist)
- Four pieces of fluid ambient new age that travels from dawn to day to dusk to night.

Omma - Doma (Antinote)
- Another lovely surprise release from the quarantine. This from Russian artist Olga Maximova aka Omma via the superb French label, Antinote. Maximova says...“DOMA” in Russian means “at home” For the last two months, my home has been a small city close to the Atlantic Ocean named Saint-Gilles-Croix-De-Vie. What comes from Maximova’s stay here is a beautiful swirl of ambient sounds.

Amy Reid - Isolated Bliss (Atlantic Rhythyms)
- If you aren’t following every single release from Atlantic Rhythms you should be. They are just so consistently good and this new one from Baltimore’s Amy Reid is no different. Take a refreshing swim in the warm ambient pool of Isolated Bliss.

Samuel Reinhard - Minatures (Präsens Editionen)
- A generative ambient composition built from short piano recordings, Miniatures moves deliberately but remains incredibly open and vibrant.

Same - Plastic Western (Lauren)
- A diverse, smart indie rock record by a young band who will only get better. Can’t wait to see what they do next.

Shiner - Schadenfreude (Self-Released)
- Wow, first new album from Shiner in 19 years, since 2001′s The Egg. Sounding even more massive than before, Schadenfreude is quite the indie rock comeback. What I wouldn’t give for all those old Desoto Records bands to come back to us. Dismemberment Plan, Burning Airlines, Juno...who is next?

Talons’ - Make America Again (Self-Released)
- Mike Tolan returns with just what we need right now, another Talons’ album. Tolan is one of the great singer/songwriters of the last 15 years and Make America Again is another stunning reminder of just that.

Yamaneko - Spa Commissions 2 (Local Action)
- I listened to Yamaneko’s 2017 Spa Commissions a crazy amount and the sequel is finally here. Not as light and floaty as the original, Spa Commissions 2 finds a nice middle ground between the Yamaneko’s main work and his Spa Commissions series.
