The Gym: Back to square 1.
I never thought it would happen to me - getting injured, long term, as a result of poor training technique. Yep it did, and it caused me to be away from the gym for over a year.
When you’re young you feel invincible, but I’m not as young as I used to be... 32 next month, and I can feel my age catching up with me...
I’ve been unable to train for over a year. Bursitis in my left shoulder caused by poor overhead press form and then I broke my wrist scrapping with some bloke at work. Well, now my body is getting back to where it was; I’m back on it.
Despite reservations with tumblr (why are all these porn blogs following me!) I’ve decided that I will chronicle how I get on, using this as my diary. It’s anonymous and no-one I really know will ever find me! As a British bloke, I suppose I’m naturally a bit reserved... Anyway, the blog helped keep me going before, and I suppose I’ll go for that again.
Last time, I went with the Starting Strength programme... probably a bit too soon, before I learnt proper form and technique. The weight I lifted rose quickly, my ego matched and I lifted too heavy too soon.
This time, I’m following Anita Beans book with her Guide to Strength Training. I might go back to SS some time when I’m ready for it, I loved lifting the big weights.
I started today, week 1, day 1. Nice and steady as if I’ve never trained before, and I will follow her beginner programme up until 12 weeks, 3 times a week.
Let’s see how it goes... Starting Strength Out -- Anita Bean, I Choose You!
