The thunderstorm was said to be strong, but you didn’t expect it to be this powerful. Trees were shaking violently just outside your bedroom window, and the winds were howling like wolves. It didn’t bother you as much, though, since you were wonderfully bundled up inside with all your favourite movies laid out in front of you. If your movie plans were going to be cancelled, then why not bring the movies to you?
Just before you took your pick, your phone started to ring like crazy. “Luke?,” you spoke into the receiver. “Hi… Hi, Y/N,” Luke’s seemingly trembling voice answered, making you very concerned.
“Hey… Luke, what’s with your voice? Are you sick?,” you asked him, slowly unwrapping yourself from your cocoon of blankets. Throughout all of the years that you’ve known Luke, you have never heard his voice this shaky. You heard him laugh into his phone, which made your lips tug upwards into a smile. “No, I just… Just wanted to ask if you wanted to come over? O-Or maybe I could come over…,” he asked you, uncertainty lacing his question.
If it were any other person on this planet, you wouldn’t even think about stepping outside into the pouring rain and howling wind. But, this was Luke Hemmings you were talking to, and you would turn the world upside down and inside out just for this boy. He was your best friend and you were his, but unknowingly to him, you saw him for more than your best friend. You loved Luke. “Fuck, Lukey… Of all the days that we could’ve hung out,” you chuckled into your phone while getting your rain boots out.
From the other end of the line, you could hear Luke giggling like a child, which reassured your decision of coming over to his place. “I’ll be there in 10 minutes, Luke. You better be right beside your door because I don’t want to wait 500 years for you to open the damn door,” you jokingly threatened him. This was usually how you poked fun at each other, and you wouldn’t have it any other way. “Don’t keep me waiting forever, Y/N. You better be here in 10 because I don’t want to be old and grey before you even arrive,” he joked back, hanging up right after.
Standing in front of Luke’s door, you could feel your stomach do flips. This was always the case before you hung out with Luke. The same routine, and you would always have to tell yourself that you were friends hanging out, nothing more and nothing less. “Knock on the door and greet your best friend, damn it,” you muttered to yourself before your fist began to knock. Not even seconds after you knocked, the door swung open to reveal a very rattled Luke. His hair was all over the place, his eyes droopy and his smile very tired. You almost cried at the sight of him, Luke was obviously not in his best state right now, although any state was beautiful in your eyes.
“Get in here, Y/N,” Luke told you, his arms spread open while his lips curved into a blinding smile. You crashed into his chest, your arms wrapping around his broad frame instantly. “Thank you for coming,” your best friend whispered into your hair. It was a strange habit of Luke’s, he would always bury his whole face in your hair whenever you two hugged. You always told yourself that he did this to everyone, and that he was just really cuddly, to your demise. After Luke broke the hug, he led you into his flat, which was pretty tidy. There was a place for everything, which you liked a lot. Luke headed straight to the couch, then patted a spot right beside him for you to sit.
Dropping your little bag on the floor, you immediately joined Luke on the couch. “What do I say about your bag? There’s a table right in front of us for it,” Luke scolded you while turning the TV on, the light coming from it hitting him in all the right places. “Next time, I promise,” you winked at him jokingly. “So, explain to me again why I’m here?,” you proceeded to ask him while the wind howled relentlessly outside, followed by a clap of thunder. Luke gulped, clearly nervous, after a bolt of lightning struck outside. “Is missing my… My best friend a valid excuse?,” he inquired, making you wonder why he was dancing around your earlier question.
“Don’t lie to me, Lukey,” you whined, cuddling up to his side. You always did this when trying to get something out of Luke, which always seemed to work. His bandmates always complained because it only worked when you did it, and nobody else. “You’re going to think I’m a huge dork,” Luke said sheepishly, turning to face you completely. “It’s way too late for you to be worrying about me thinking that you’re a dork,” you teased him, trying to get him to tell you. Luke rolled his eyes while he laughed, which made your cheeks turn bright pink. Good thing it was pretty dark in his flat. “Thunderstorms just really fuck me up, okay? I always get anxious when they happen,” he muttered, just before a boom of thunder made him flinch.
This news caught you by surprise, because Luke always played the knight in shining armour in your friendship. He was the one who always protected you from the world. “Well, it’s a good thing you’ve got movies, right?,” you smiled at him, which made him smile back at you. “How about you change into more comfy clothes and I’ll pick a movie out? I think I have some clean shirts and sweats in the laundry,” Luke suggested, as he got up to look through his movie selection.
You shyly agreed to his proposition as you rushed to his laundry area. Unlike the rest of his flat, there were clothes everywhere, including some that were on the pipes near the ceiling. How the fuck did that get there? Softly laughing to yourself, you picked Luke’s shirt that had the word sheriff on it, and some grey sweats on the dryer. You were grateful that Luke offered for you to borrow his clothes, since yours were slightly damp after having to walk in the rain. After you quickly changed out of your clothes, you walked back to see Luke with snacks in his hands.
“How do I look?,” you asked him while sitting down on the couch. “You’re beautiful…,” Luke stared at you for just a fraction of a second before shaking something off, “I mean, they are my clothes,” he added while his eyes wandered up and down your look. Your cheeks started to burn red, but to draw less attention to that, you had to think of something to say quick. “So, what movie did you pick?,” you hastily asked Luke, his eyes averting back to the TV screen. “This is obviously the intro to the Lion King, Y/N. Your Disney game is so weak,” Luke scoffed, his eyes crinkling because of his laughter, which made you laugh as well.
Only 15 minutes into the movie, and you’re a sobbing mess. “If Scar wasn’t a giant piss baby then Mufasa wouldn’t be dead,” you bitterly sobbed at the scene before you. No matter how many times you watched this movie, it always managed to make you cry at least once. And no matter how many times Luke has watched you cry during this scene, he always managed to make you smile in an instant. “Y/N, you’re going to ruin my shirt,” Luke complained, only to tease you. “I-I’m sorry, this always happens, f-fuck,” you swore while trying to keep your tears away from Luke’s shirt.
Luke softly laughed, reaching up to cup both of your cheeks in his large hands. It startled you at first, since he has never done this to you before. His thumbs gently started to wipe your tears falling from your eyes. A rush of warmth spread throughout your entire body due to this. You found yourself leaning into his hands as he continued to wipe the tears away. “You’re even beautiful when you cry,” Luke whispered as his thumbs stopped wiping under your eyes. This made you giggle softly. “Wow, I should cry more often then,” you jokingly told Luke, only to be met by his warm smile.
“You should never be crying, princess,” Luke said as he slowly began to come closer to your face. You could feel the goosebumps starting to form as you noticed every single detail on his face. The way his nose sloped, the intense blue of his eyes that would give the sea a run of its money, and the way his lips perfectly seemed to frame and hold his lip ring. It was all too mesmerizing. As if staring at him for too long would result in you never being able to see anything more beautiful as the way he’s looking at you. A roll of thunder passed, and Luke didn’t even flinch this time. Luke was so close to your face that you could feel him breathing.
One glance at his lips was all it took for them to come crashing into yours. Your kiss was the kind of kiss that people would call perfect, it was strong yet extremely gentle, full of longing and passion. Luke’s hands snaked their way into your hair as his eyelashes fluttered to a close. It was all so enticing for you, the feeling of his hands almost massaging your hair, and the way your lips perfectly molded into each other’s lips. Your hands found their way to his neck, which you wrapped your arms around. It was as if all time slowed down just for this moment.
Pulling away for air, you kept your forehead against his, looking into his eyes to find any sign of regret. You were only met by Luke beaming at you, happiness radiating out of him. “I guess the cat is out of the bag now, huh?,” he smiled at you, his lips ghosting against yours again. “It’s about damn time that cat’s out of the bag,” you replied, both of you giggling at your response. Luke pulled himself away, only to wrap his arms around you into a cuddle. “So, what do you say, sheriff?,” Luke said, referring to his shirt that you’re wearing, his hand making its way to cup your cheek again. “I say that you’re under arrest for being really damn cute, and for snatching up my heart,” you said, a toothy grin on your face as Luke giggled once again.
“Well, I’m glad you think that, because my heart’s pretty snatched up by you too, princess,” Luke whispered, as he brought his lips to yours again with a smile.
