——-♜ It wasn’t supposed to be like this. They were supposed to be happy, discovering new things and just being kids. Nothing was supposed to happen here, no attacks or fighting...it was all supposed to be fun. But that wasn’t the case. Nothing was fun right now. Because Gon was dying, that was obvious. It was so stupid, a random attack that resulted in Gon getting pierced by a poison arrow. Killua should’ve seen it coming, should’ve taken the arrow for Gon. Killua was immune to that sort of stuff, but here Gon was writhing in pain, throwing up everything he had in his stomach, hazy and hardly conscious. He could be miserable like this for hours...
What was Killua supposed to do? Gon was his first, and really only, friend. He felt physically sick, bile rising in his throat as his best friend squirms and heaves and cries out in pain. Thin fingers make their way through Gon’s hair, trying to soothe the boy even a little. But it was obvious what needed to be done, that he needed to kill Gon so that he didn’t suffer any longer. Especially when there was no way he’d get out of this.
Tears race down Killua’s cheeks, his eyes watery as he takes a deep breath. “Gon...” he murmurs, not even sure if Gon could understand what he was saying in the state he was in. But there was no way Killua could just... kill him without saying anything. “I-I know this must feel so awful... th-that you just want it to end. So I’m going to help you, okay? I-I’m gonna make all the pain go away...” Breathing becomes harder, his breaths short and punctuated. “I-I also want you to know I’m so thankful for you and h-how you’ve always been there for me. You’re my best friend and no one could ever replace you.” There was no use being embarrassed and hiding it now, since it would be the only time he could tell him. “So th-that’s why I have to do this okay? B-Because there’s no way you can make it, a-and I don’t want you to suffer any longer.”
Killua swallows, raising a shaky hand and aiming it towards Gon’s heart. “I love you, Gon... I’ll see you again some day.” With another deep breath, Killua plunges his fingers in, taking Gon’s heart and watching as the life drains out of him. As the squirming stops, his breath fades, his bright brown eyes dull. And Killua broke.
