Hot take, but so much of “black girl luxury” doesn’t even look like luxury to me? The chains, the grills, the teeth jewelry, the all brand/logo everything, the aggressive hustle culture…with all the love in my heart, it’s literally just rapper culture lite. It’s high end ghetto hood rat culture (affectionately). It’s basically capitalist consumerism, and we all (should) know by now that I firmly believe capitalist consumerism is the antithesis of luxury. I love seeing the self care moodboards and the fancy car/home/family moodboards and the night out stuff and the shopping stuff and cottage core and Ralph Lauren et al. featuring black women like anything else, but when the thing tagged black girl luxury looks like it could be a Fashion Nova or Pretty Little Thing ad from some one hit wonder’s baby mother on TSR? My first thought is not luxury, I’m sorry.
