Do you have headcanons for Mildred?
Soooooooo sorry for the delay in responding to this question, I didn't forget about it! I did have to think about it for a minute because she's not a character I think about too much, but these are the vibes she gives me.
Without further ado, here are my headcanons for Mildred:
- Every morning, she's up at 5 AM, even when she has the opportunity to sleep in. And she always starts her day with a fresh cup of coffee. ☕️
- At the end of the day she likes to wind down with a good book and a warm cup of tea with honey. ☕️📖
- Her favorite book trope is found family (for obvious reasons). She also really enjoys a good mystery. 📖🔍
- Mildred is an absolute sucker for a good tearjerker film, and she keeps tissues on hand at all times, just on case. 🥲🤧
- She tries to be as nurturing as possible to the kids in the orphanage without being too maternal. HOWEVER, she has a soft spot for Lewis. 🥹
- Countless kitchen appliances have had to be replaced because a certain boy genius kept "borrowing" them. Eventually she just started buying cheap replacements, fully expecting for them to go missing. (All the expensive ones were hidden where he couldn't find them. 😅)
- When she was a kid, she was always rescuing injured animals to nurse them back to health. And as much as she hated releasing them back into the wild, she knew that's where they belonged.
- One rescue did stay, though. A three-legged cat named Trinity that she lets roam around the orphanage during the day and snuggles up in her bed at night. 🐱
- When she's sad, Mildred likes to look through the photo album she keeps of all the kids she's raised throughout the years. 🖼
- After Lewis was adopted, anytime there was an article about him in the paper she would cut it out and put it in her scrapbook. (Again, HUGE soft spot for him. 🥹)
- Every year, Cornelius will send her a Christmas card with his family on it, and a little note thanking for everything she's done for him. 🎄
- She's not a huge fan of Christmas in general because it's hard to enjoy a holiday that's all about family when the kids she raises don't have one. 😭
In conclusion, I love Mildred. 🫶
She is a very kind woman with a big, soft heart. And I love love love that she runs the orphanage with love and kindness instead of being a psychotic jerk like in other films. (Looking at you, Ms. Hannigan 😬)
