• he’s not great at voicing this concern, but it’s not hard to tell when he’s recoiling and losing himself. it’s best for you to sit him down and whisper a soft “i love you” into his ear—to tell him that you’re here for the long run.

• as much as yuuta loves holding you, there are times when he wants to be the one being held. when you’re laying on the couch or and bed and he sees you aren’t busy, he occupies the spot on top of you, peering up at you with eyes full of admiration. his eyes drift shut when you hands begin to run up and down his back.

a relationship with tsukishima is stimulating. he’s a man of knowledge, both useful and useless, so it’s like you learn something new everyday with tsukki. though, his cheeky personality isn’t lost on you and he’s just as teasing with you as he is with his friends. he doesn’t shy away from joking with you—making fun of your height when you can’t reach high shelves and laughing almost hysterically when you retell your most embarrassing stories. he’s not entirely one for touchy feely stuff and often gently and lightheartedly pushes you away when you hug him particularly tight or make a show of trying to shower him with kisses in public. but at home, away from prying eyes, he’s more receptive to physical affection. he lets you snuggle into his side, tangle your hands through the hair at the nape of his neck, and kiss the pulse point of his neck, all without complaint. tsukki’s a lot more reserved in displaying his with his emotions, opting to run his thumb across your knuckles and placing soft kisses on the top of your head. he doesn’t say it a lot during the day, but every night before you doze off into a restful slumber, he whispers a quiet “i love you” into your ear.

you snorted at the headline. the picture included was barely enough to work from, keigo only recognizable because of his massive, red wings, the other face in the frame indiscernible due to the angle. you were sure if another flashy hero was sitting across from him at that restaurant, the paparazzi wouldn’t even consider stopping to snap a photo. so this is news worthy or reporting, huh?

“what are you doing?” keigo asked, plopping down beside you. the scent of toothpaste and aftershave drifted behind him into the living room.

“just reading about how the most eligible bachelor of hero society has settled down,” you informed him, locking your phone and tossing it onto the couch cushion. you turned to him with a smirk. “it’s all speculation, of course. that person he was having lunch with might have just been a friend. or a work colleague. the world may never know.”

“you’re funny,” he chuckled at your sarcasm.

“i like to think so.” you crawled into his lap, careful to avoid his wings as you straddled him. “but i’m sure there was a better way we could have went about this. there are probably journalists lined up, pens out at the ready, eager to hear all the juicy details about us.”

“they don’t need details.” he placed his palms on your hips, giving them a gentle squeeze. his golden eyes peered up at you through thick lashes. “all they need to know is that i’m in—and have been in—a serious and committed relationship.”

you could practically see the happiness in his eyes. he seemed a lot brighter now that he was able to openly talk about you as his partner. this aspect of your lives had been kept private since keigo started gaining popularity and rising the ranks as a hero. both of you thought it was better that way, safer. you never realized how much it bothered him until he brought it up to you a couple weeks ago. announcing your relationship to the public would come with its own set of challenges, but you were sure that they’d be nothing you and keigo wouldn’t be able to handle.

“well, now they know.” you bumped your nose against his. “so then, hawks, what are your plans now that you’ve gone public with your partner? inquiring minds want to know.”

he rolled his eyes at your antics, but eventually played along with the silly fake interview. “the first thing to cross off the list is taking them on a proper date. i don’t think making mud pies or eating soggy french fries from the diner qualify as romantic. they certainly aren’t worthy of my other half.”

“for your information, i loved those dates.” you leaned down to press your lips against his, pulling away with a smile on your face and a sparkle in your eye. “but, i’m looking forward to this new chapter of ours.”

"oh my god, i can’t believe you still have this!”

you held up the stuffed dinosaur that was tucked away in iwaizumi’s closet. who would have thought you’d find such an old childhood toy while packing up iwaizumi’s room for college. the last time you had saw it, it looked a lot brighter, newer. now, the color was much more dull and fabric was tearing at the seams. the poor guy had seen better days.

iwaizumi looked up from the box of desk supplies he was packing away to see what you were referring to. “oh yeah, he’s still around.”

you remember the first time you saw the plushie on the shelf of the toy aisle. it was years ago when your parents took you to pick out a present for the birthday boy. as soon as you laid eyes on it, you knew if was the perfect birthday gift for iwaizumi (you thought it might remind him of his favorite fantasy monster). and apparently it was, especially if it had stuck with him this long.

“it’s so worn down.” you swore you could see some of the stuffing coming out. “i’m surprised you didn’t throw it out. want me to trash it now?”

“what? no!”

“okay, i won’t.” you snatched the plushie away from the trash bag at his protest. that was a stronger response than you expected. “are you gonna take it with you? i’m sure your roommates would love to see that,” you joked.

“i’m not taking it, smartass.” he took the dinosaur from you, tossing it back to its place in the closet. “i just don’t want to throw it away.”

“how come?” you asked, plopping down on the empty patch of his bed that wasn’t occupied by piles of clothes. maybe you’d be more useful folding shirts. you certainly wouldn’t get distracted by forgotten memorabilia with such a menial task.

“if i tell you, you can’t laugh.”

“i won’t. promise.”

“i remember how excited you were when you were watching me unwrap it. i think that’s when i first realized i liked you.” his voice was barely above a whisper and you swore you could see a faint blush tinting his cheeks.

“aw, that’s so cute!” you gushed. “now i feel like an ass for making fun of you.”

“you should,” he quipped, turning to face you after taping a box closed.

“hey!” you chucked a shirt at him, which he easily caught with a laugh. “that’s when you’re supposed to say ‘it’s okay because i love you so, so much.’ you weren’t supposed to agree.”

he grinned at the pout on your face. throwing the wrinkled shirt back into the pile, he stood in front of you. “mm, i won’t take it back.” he squished your cheeks together, your lips puckering as a result. leaning down, he placed a gentle kiss to your lips before releasing you from his hold. “but i do love you. so, so much.”

“i was wondering where you snuck off to.”

suna looked away from the body of water in front of him, peering over his shoulder at your voice. you stood with your arms crossed, a small smile playing at your lips.

“looks like you found me.”

“why’d you ditch us?” you asked, lightheartedly. it was nice to get back together with the team, but suna’s missing presence at the bonfire didn’t go unnoticed. at least, not by you. you carefully stepped over the log suna was perched on, taking a seat beside him.

“it was getting loud,” he replied. it was. you could almost hear the twins bickering through the expanse of trees.

“oh, well i can leave if you want to be alone.” you threw your thumb over your shoulder back in the direction you came from.

suna quickly shook his head. “it’s fine, you can stay.”

“well, don’t i feel special,” you joked. despite the cool exterior accompanying your words, your heart was racing. you were never really granted many opportunities alone with suna, not with the twins constantly attached to his hip. his willingness to keep you around left you feeling giddy.

there was no way for you to tell, but suna felt equally as excited. because to him, you were special.

the two of you sat in silence, taking in the scenery. the bright moonlight reflected off the ripples of the waves in the lake before you. it was a beautiful sight.

“are you cold?” suna asked, taking note of your shivering and chattering teeth.

“a little. if i knew you were sitting by the lake, i would have brought my blanket,” you laughed, hands running up and down your exposed skin.

at your response, suna was shrugging off his thick jacket to hand to you. “here.”

“won’t you be cold?” you inquired, hesitantly grabbing the coat. it was still warm from him.

“i don’t mind.”

it was hard not to feel bad as you slipped your limbs into the oversized sleeves. the fuzzy fabric worked wonders to combat the cold. but with you newfound warmth came guilt. he was trying to hide it, but you could tell the bitter air was already starting to get to suna.

you chewed on your bottom lip as you considered your options. it wasn’t long before you decided what to do, scooting closer to the boy beside you. he raised his eyebrows at your movements.

“this way we can both be warm,” you spoke at his confused expression. you could feel your cheeks heating up.

“can’t argue with that.” suna smiled, pulling you into his side, keeping his arm wrapped around your shoulder. you snuggled into his neck, your hair tickling the sensitive skin.

it wasn’t a common occurrence for atsumu’s petulant pestering to turn to legitimate pleas, so when he asked for you and his twin to attend one of his upcoming away games, you had a hard time turning him down. it was a really important match that he promised would be worth watching from the crowd. his request seemed like a genuine one, so of course you and osamu agreed to go.

thinking that neither of you would want to drive home after the night of partying the blonde would surely subject you to after their win (because he also promised that the jackals would achieve victory), osamu booked a hotel room in advance. it’ll be cheaper if we split the cost of one room instead of us each getting our own, he convinced you. you couldn’t find any flaws in his logic, so of course you went along with it.

and thank god you did, because when atsumu finally let you retire for the night, the only thing you could think about was going to bed. the drive to the hotel was a short one and check-in was a painless process. in no time, you were swiping your key card to enter your room.

“dude, did you click for a single instead of a double on the website?” you asked, surveying the one large bed against the wall. osamu followed you through the doorway, dropping his bag on the floor. peering over your shoulder, he bit the inside of his cheek at his mistake.

“shit.” he breathed out, realizing the dilemma. “i can go downstairs and see if they have any other rooms available.”

“don’t bother. we settled on one to cut down the cost, right? we’ll make it work.”

osamu was nice enough to let you have the bathroom first, insisting that he was fine to shower after you. so you quickly carried out your nightly routine so osamu could get to his. by the time he was finished and the door swung open, you were already curled up beneath the blanket on one half of the bed.

“i’ll take the floor,” osamu spoke, grabbing a pillow from the other side.

“no way, this bed is big enough for the both of us and i don’t bite.” you reached behind you to pat the empty space on the mattress beside you. “so get comfortable.”

“you’re really okay with sharing?” he asked.

“yeah. i just hope you don’t snore,” you voiced through a yawn.

osamu rolled his eyes at your smart remark, climbing into the bed anyway. you could feel the mattress dip down with his weight. having another body beside you was unfamiliar but oddly comforting. the click of the lamp enveloped the room in darkness and was the last factor needed for your drowsiness to overtake you.

despite the fatigue of the day catching up with him, osamu's eyes stayed trained on the ceiling, sleep evading him. even with your back turned to him, he couldn’t help but feel nervous. it wasn’t that he hadn’t been this close to you before, but sleeping together felt like a whole new level of intimacy the two of you never touched in your years of friendship. it felt like something beyond your friendship.

he was actually thankful that you knocked out so soon. if you were awake long enough to tease him about the situation, his façade surely would have become transparent. you’d be able to tell that part of him thought of you as more than a friend. of course he planned on coming clean eventually, but he wanted it to be more meaningful than blurting it out in embarrassment. maybe tonight would be the push he needed to confess. but for now, his only concern was trying to relax enough to get some shut-eye.

“good night,” he whispered into the air.
