Dr. Loren Caira: The American Board of Emergency Medicine’s Milestones Project
Dr. Loren Caira treats patients as a family physician at Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre in Burns Lake, British Columbia. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. The Emergency Medicine Milestones Project (EMMP) is a joint partnership between the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Emergency Medicine. The project outlines the understanding, skill sets, attitudes, and experiences that students should acquire as students undergo specialty training in emergency medicine. Institutions use the EMMP to judge emergency medicine residents on a biannual basis. Along with the American Board of Emergency Medicine and ACGME, a number of other organizations participated in developing the EMMP. These include the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association, the Association of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine, and several other professional groups.
