Canadian Medical Association Hosts 148th Annual Meeting
With more than 30 years of experience working in the healthcare industry, Dr. Loren Caira serves as a family physician at Lakes District Hospital in Burns Lake, British Columbia. Prior to this, he was a staff emergency room physician at West Hills Medical Center in West Hills, California. To help him stay up-to-date on healthcare issues in Canada, Dr. Loren Caira belongs to the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Established in 1867, the CMA is a physicians’ association that advocates on behalf of its members and the public. In addition, it offers leadership assistance to physicians. Today, the organization boasts more than 80,000 members and lobbies on Parliament Hill and during elections on behalf of its members and their patients. The CMA hosts an annual meeting, which includes a business session open to all members. These meetings typically include scientific and educational sessions, ceremonial inductions of officers, and award presentations. The 2015 event, which was the organization’s 148th, occurred in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in August. Attendees partook in workshops and listened to keynote speakers.
