Ryu was never the type to be able to study and earn good grades, he was always energetic and unable to stay still. It was when his older brother disappeared outside one night after curfew that he followed and stumbled across the world of skating. After witnessing just how cool the world of skateboarding could be, he begged his brother relentlessly until they gave in and taught him how to ride. He was taught the rules of "S" a highly secret and dangerous no-holds-barred downhill skateboarding race and given the sticker he needed to enter on the conditions that he only watched until his brother decided he was ready.
After months of injury here and there including a scar now permanently displayed on his face, his brother gave him the go ahead to enter the race, he wasn't special at first and often lost a beef meaning that he lost more things than he gained but it was the thrill and freedom that urged him to carry on. As time went by and his brother's life diverged onto a better path , Ryu progressed in skill and.. In stupidity, often using sarcastic responses and sly moves to get ahead in races. It came to the point where he became a good contender within the races and earned the name " Speed demon" for his reckless speed down the track with no thought for the injuries that can be caused later on. He loved it, this was where he felt like he belonged it was not just a hobby but his life.
Of course that was at night, through the day he was a whole different person. Ryu became a sweet and optimistic man filled with charm that worked in his local bakery, his boss often tells him that he's the most popular employee they've ever had. He found it easy to make friends during the day time though he doesn't trust so easily, he even found himself to be a brotherly figure to those younger than him. He'd invite others to hang out and play video games or play ball sports maybe even try his new baking recipes. However his non skating related friends only saw the thoughtful and affectionate side, he was the guy that would come running with a bucket of ice cream if you told him your partner broke up with you not the scarily competitive moron willing to break bones to win.
