Your head has been thinking the same thing over and over for the last few weeks.
Could it be possible for you both to outgrow your love? What about all the promises you did to each other? What about all the plans you had for the future?
Running your hands through Natasha’s hair, you remembered the first time you both said the L-word. After all the things you’ve been through, was this really the end?? Was this really where your life together ended?
“No,” you murmured. This was so no the end.
“Hi,” a raspy greeting came from your girlfriend’s mouth.
“Hi,” you whispered quietly. The gears in your head working at full speed.
You felt yourself shiver under Natasha’s scrutinizing. “What’s on your mind?”
No matter how hard you tried to speak, words won’t come out and you could feel your eyes watering.
“Baby?” Natasha straddled you, her hand caressing your cheek. “Baby, talk to me?” she pleaded.
“Can we still have our happy ever after?” You didn’t think the words, they just blurted out.
“Wha- Where does this come from?”
“I-” you tried to formulate the words on your mouth but your breath was becoming erratic with every passing second.
“Y/N,” Natasha called cupping your face. “Y/N, I need you to breath with me, yeah?” She placed your hand on her chest, over her heart for you to focus on her breathing. “That’s it. In through the nose, hold for 2 and out through the mouth.”
Natasha guided you through the breathing exercises for a few minutes. Her green eyes reminded you of the forest. It was like the oxygen you needed after a marathon. How could this be really over?
“That’s it,” she smiled warmly when you calmed enough. “You’re doing great, baby.”
“I- I didn’t me-”
“Shush, my love. No need for words right now.” Natasha kissed your forehead and you just obeyed, snuggling yourself into her warm body.
After a few moments in silence, you look up to her and you couldn’t help but smile back at her. “What?” You whispered.
“I love you, you know that?” She caressed your cheek. “I love you so much that I could never ever leave you.”
Propping yourself on your elbow, you searched her eyes for some trace of a lie. But you came up empty.
All you could find was utter love and loyalty. “I’m sorry,” you whispered. “I’m sorry I doubted us.”
“I‘ve made my part too,” she pulled you closer. “I should’ve paid you more attention,” Natasha pecked your forehead. “I should’ve taken time for ourselves,” this time she kissed the tip of your nose. “I should’ve been more pre-”
“We both know what we were signing up for when we joined the team,” you interrupted her.
“It doesn’t mean I needed to neglect us,” your heart constricted at the pain that appeared briefly in her eyes.
“Can we not?” You pouted. “Can we just forget about this?”
Natasha stared at you. Almost as if she were reading you.
“Only if we communicate every single thought from now on.”
“Okay,” you leaned in to finally kiss her. “I promise I’ll always speak my mind.”
Natasha smiled something sweet at the time her arms wrapped around your waist holding you tight. “I love you, Y/N.”
“I love you too.”
