Millianna was also so exuberant, so full of life; Kagura often wondered where she got her energy from.
“Kagura-chan!” Millianna yelled, throwing herself into Kagura’s arms and knocking them both off balance. They fell onto the warm summer sand, but Kagura thought that her cheeks were warmer when she realised how close the other woman was.
“I’m glad you could make it.” Millianna breathed, and Kagura hummed her agreement.
Kagura/Milliana + stargazing (fic). Cuddling on the balcony of their guild and guessing constellations together (Kagura starts with much less enthusiasm, but she eventually gets into it). Thanks!
Kagura loathed nights, more often than not they contained flames flickering behind her eyelids, screams ringing in her ears, and the semblance of acrid flesh hanging in the air. Every time she drifted off to sleep, she was greeted with a unique horror.
And when she woke, weak-kneed and nauseous. Kagura reached for the comfort of her blade and the security of Mermaid Heel's training grounds.
The practice sword didn’t have the same heft as Archenemy, but it didn’t need to for Kagura to commit the movements to memory. Her form would be perfect when the fateful moment arrived, the moment when she would avenge Simon and Millianna. Perhaps, then there would be peace.
Midnight was long past when her arms began burning. Her strikes became increasingly feeble, her steps clumsy.
So when something warm encircled her arm, naturally, Kagura nearly jumped out of her skin.
"You're still up or…?"
Millianna. Kagura's shoulders sagged. Millianna excelled at stealth; however, she never masked her steps from Kagura. Perhaps it was time to call it.
"No, I took a reprieve prior to beginning my daily training."
"Yeah…" A slight quirk of her lips did nothing to disguise the somber look in Milliana's eyes as she guided Kagura towards her room. "I had trouble sleeping too."
The balcony outside of Milliana's room was cozy. Jasmine curled around the wrought-iron balustrade perfuming the air with sweetness. Once they were settled on the wicker loveseat, Milliana rested her head on Kagura's shoulder, her tail involuntary around Kagura's waist.
"You know, every star has a story. Grandpa Rob used to say they're like people in that way."
Kagura hummed in reply. She cared little for far off constellations; nevertheless, she did care for Millianna; it was no hardship to feign interest on her behalf.
"There was this crack in the roof of the cell they kept us in. When we couldn't get to sleep, we would make stories for the stars about how they got there, why they're there." She pointed at a cluster to the northeast. "Er-chan used to say that constellation, told the impossible tale of a woman. She fought a hundred monsters only to fall after striking the last fiend. The spirits honored her sacrifice by granting her a place among them, weaving a celestial tapestry commemorating it."
Kagura inclined her head, "And that constellation to the west?"
"Fiore’s was once ruled by dragons when the final dragon breathed its last; its spirit rose in an eternal flight among the stars." Millianna peered up at Kagura. Moonlight illuminated her face in breathtaking splendor, stars glittered in her eyes. "What do you think that one means?"
Under Milliana's earnest gaze, Kagura felt lighter. They looked like stars in all honesty. Nonetheless, she let the feeling embolden her, "Perhaps, it's a cat."
Millianna's puffed in an endearing pout.
Kagura couldn’t stop a chuckle from bubbling forth. "Let me finish before judging, please," she chided lightly. "Each of the nine stars represents one of its lives. Every lifetime the cat conducted a myriad of good works by the end of its final life, they were guided to a perch in the stars where they could rest."
"That's sweet," Millianna swiped furiously at her glistening eyes. "You know kitties are my soft spot. It's not fair."
"I could always give it another go."
"Really!"
Millianna's enthusiasm was nothing if not infectious.
"The brightest star in the sky is a guiding light. True north. Two lovers torn apart by circumstance could only meet clandestinely under cover of night. They needed a way to find each other in the dark, and the Celestial Spirit King swayed by their plight, placed it in the sky to guide them."
Millianna buried her face into Kagura's shoulder as she cuddled closer. "That story's almost as beautiful as you, Kagura-chan."
Kagura nearly missed the muffled compliment.
"It all pales compared to you," she replied as a furious blush overcame her face; she thanked the spirits for the cover of darkness. No matter what the future held, she knew that so long as they were together, there was a way forward to something brighter than what they left behind.
This was originally planned for femslash feb but then it didn’t happen so I was keeping it back for rare pair week. Now I’m too late for femslash feb and too early for rare pair week, so whatever. Take it
- a family of fourteen
Millianna makes a decision without consulting Kagura, and Kagura remembers that the key to marriage is compromise.
Kagura was accustomed too her wife making questionable decisions, but this one deserved some kind of award.
“Do you not think that we should have spoken about this, Millianna?”
Kagura crossed her arms with a sigh, and Millianna brought a kitten against her face protectively.
“You would have overreacted!” When Kagura raises a brow, her wife gasped and clutches her chest as though she had taken a dagger to the heart. “You would have said no.”
Kagura rolled her eyes. “Of course I would have said no! We already have eight cats!”
Millianna pouted, thrusting her hands back into the box of kittens. Kagura counted four - no, five; Millianna still had one on her lap - and felt a headache forming. She had grown fond of the pets that they already had, but that by no means made Kagura a cat person. Besides, where would they find the time, or the energy, for five kittens? She knelt on the floor, level with the other woman, and lifted a small bundle of fur into her arms. It was black with an adorable white beard and heart-shaped nose. When Kagura looked into its eyes, the kitten mewled, claws catching on the wool of her jumper.
“Where did you find them?”
“Abandoned.”
Strays. Of course. Millianna had always had a weakness for strays; that was how she had found Kagura.
Kagura pressed her lips to the soft fur of Millianna's ears. "We'll nurse them until they're old enough to find permanent homes, okay?"
Even though she was disappointed, Millianna understood why they couldn't have more pets; a family of fourteen was a lot. Not that Millianna believed it possible to keep too many cats.
"Thank you, Kagura." Millianna nuzzled into her wife's side, and they petted the small creatures, until all of the kittens were asleep. They were not far behind, folded in on themselves, curled up against the warmth of each other.
“Y-You play Mermaid Tail too?” Milliana asked with a cheeky glint in her eyes. She went onto exclaim, “I didn’t take you for a gamer, Kagura!”
Well technically speaking, she was far from being a gamer, Kagura worked on her studies in any free time she ever had. It just so happened, that she took a small break one day as she stumbled upon the free MMORPG (she believed it was called). She was a sucker for anything that was cheap, and the game was only a siren’s call. It was only a mere coincidence that her crush happened to pay it.
“Well…” A steady blush rose to her cheeks, Kagura shifted in her seat. “I’m not a pro or anything… It’s just a leisure activity. I couldn’t imagine spending countless hours on such a thing.”
Milliana guffawed, holding her gloved hands to her stomach. Her laughter made Kagura lighten up a bit, but slightly confused by the girl’s outburst. “What is it?” She inquired, giving the her classmate a wry eye.
The girl’s cat ears wobbled as she leaned forward, scrawling down a small word on the corner of her notes. “You used the word pro, but I’m a Master at the game! You’re gonna need my help if you’re going to get anywhere. Here’s my username.” Milliana winked at her, ripping the small piece off the paper.
Her deskmate slid the torn paper over to her, almost illegible. Kagura bit her lip as she read Milliana’s choice of an online nickname:
Me0wghett1
Kagura’s chest rumbled with the a great oncoming laugh attack. Milliana had combined to the two things she loved the most into a gamertag. It was ingenious.
She couldn’t hold back the laughter, a small snort following her release. A few other students turned to look at her, she rarely ever laughed. Especially in the mellow setting of the school’s classrooms.
Milliana joined in on her small outburst, though Kagura was sure she didn’t know what she was laughing for. It was a nice to be so carefree. Maybe if she hung out with Milliana more, she could feel exactly like this.
Turning to Milliana, she smiled. “I’ll make the time to add you tonight. Make sure you get your studies done tonight, I would hate to see the teacher catch you off guard again.”
And with that small response, the bell announced the end of class.
A couple weeks later…
Kagura rapidly pressed on the keys of her new razor keyboard, senselessly clicking away. “Argh… You threw off the raid, Milli!” She grimaced, as she used Milliana’s nickname. Their current gameplay was heading nowhere, and she was so close to level 90!
Through her headset, she could hear her friend (she really wished they were more, but it was just a dream) speak. “But Kagura…” She whined, her character finally joining Kagura’s own among the ranks. “That other mage dropped the Cat’s Claws! I just had to have them, you know how rare they are. Only a 1% chance of dropping.”
She scoffed, blazing down a couple of their enemies with one flawlessly executed attack. “Fine, but keep your eyes on the prize. We came to this dungeon for one thing… The Dragon Cry. It’s apart of the mission, unlike your silly new weapon.”
She could hear Milliana clicking away, the girl’s feline character careening across the computer screen. “Hmph… Watch me get it then.”
With a couple of more harsh button smashing, they both eliminated the wave of lower level enemies. It would have been a piece of cake if there weren’t so many of them, there spawn rate more than just the two of them could handle. Kagura wiped her brow, her health and magic bar almost depleted.
The jewel encrusted and golden adorned chest sat right in front of their eyes. “Go for it, Milli. Let’s get our treasure.” If Kagura was within the same space as Milliana, she would have given her a pat on the back. Alas it was impossible, as her classmate was seated a couple blocks away.
“No you get it. Your magic tarnished those swashbucklers.”
Kagura grinned, moving her avatar toward the shining chest. But it was too good to be true, as the screen flashed with danger and warning signs. Good thing neither of them were epileptic. A brand new boss appeared, draining the last of Kagura’s health bar. Nothing could have saved her from the new mob.
She was completely baffled, all of her spoils of the previous battle sitting on the screen - right next to her character’s dead body. She clenched her fists, almost smashing her hands onto the desk. Speaking to her mic in a low voice, she commanded Milliana. “Avenge me! Get that bastard!”
Milliana laughed and typed a winky face in the game’s chat. “The guide didn’t say anything about this, but I gotchu Kagura. I shall avenge my mistress!”
Kagura blushed at her friend’s declaration, keenly watching her avanta flit across the screen. The good thing about the Khajiit species, was their feline qualities. Very dexterous and flexible. Their starting skills acrobatics and a starting magic set, a very powerful class in the game. But it was very hard to play effectively, but Kagura knew that Milliana could pull it off.
With a few quick moves of the cat-like character, the boss was defeated. Kagura was absolutely baffled, she really was playing with a pro. “I told you the Cat’s Claws were worth it.”
If only Milliana could see how far her eyes rolled back, the stupid drop was worth it in the end. Her friend continued to spout on about the weapon’s specs and damage, Kagura only being thrilled to hear the girl’s voice. She would kiss her in order to get the girl to shut up about it.
“What?!” Milliana exclaimed. “Did you just say you wanted to kiss me?!”
“Uhm…” Kagura just dug herself into a hole, she had no idea what to do. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear what you said… My internet…” Kagura pathetically made some blurry noises, shutting her computer down.
And the very next day, they walked into class holding hands.
