The man reached out, touched the fall of Orochimaru’s too-black hair. “Aren’t you scared, to be so deep in the wood?”
“Fear is for those with something to lose,” Orochimaru retorted, and tipped his hand, spilling knotted grass across the tree roots.
The man’s blue eyes lingered on them for a long moment, then lifted. “Those would have flowered,” he said, but not a condemnation. Just interest, touched with amusement.
“I kill things,” Orochimaru said blandly, and brushed his fingers off on his robes. The green stains lingered, too deep in his skin to be rid of so easily. “I’m very good at it.”
The man grinned, and there was indeed a monster in his eyes, no lesser for its loveliness. Greater, maybe, because the man looked welcoming and kind; no one would suspect that teeth were about to rip out their throat.
“I’d be willing to bet I'm better,” he said.

A gift for @yoshifics, from the Secret Santa on my server!
Kat, would you consider posting your new fics text here on tumblr as well? Ao3 won’t even load for me and I really would love to officially enter Minaoro hell as well pls 😭
xD Well, seeing as only one part of it is MinaOro-ish, I’m more than happy to slap that bit up here.
“That,” Kakashi says flatly, dripping sewer water all over the pavement, “was not a shady contact. That was stupidity.”
Minato, still slightlybreathless from their flight through the tunnels to get away, makes a ruefulexpression, but doesn’t pause, leaving the path and heading for the edge of thepark that’s mostly overgrown. “Orochimaru’s always been friendly before!” heprotests, though his heart isn’t in it.
Kakashi’s feet are squishing inhis shoes. He reeks, and there aretoo many people around to risk a spell. This is a terrible day, and he’s never again going to not mean it when hejokes about Kushina being trouble. “You never turned down his advances before. What part of that was smart?”
“The part where I didn’t end updating Orochimaru,” Minato retorts, though mildly. “And we got the information, didn’t we? It’s fine.”
“I hate you,” Kakashi tells him,and almost means it. “We got chased through the sewers by a giant snake because you didn’t want togo to dinner with the local warlock and let him down easy.”
“At least we know where theritual was being set up,” Minato says, like it’s any defense at all. Once thetrees close behind them, he waves a hand at himself, and streaks of dark sigilscurl around him, then vanish, taking the water and most of the smell with them.Kakashi mimics the gesture, and has to grimace at even the faint waft of stenchthat’s still remaining.
“We might know,” he corrects, but doesn’t stop following Minato as theground rises in a low hill.
“How many big rituals requiringthe use of a pre-built summoning circle of solid gold and an incredibly powerfulsorcerer’s blood can there be?” Minato asks, inordinately cheerful. He splashesright through a stream, but Kakashi hops over it, because his shoes havesuffered enough today.
“If they are here, I can't feel any magic,” he says, not quite a complaintbut certainly close.
Minato hums thoughtfully, scanning the trees ahead of them. “Neither can I,” he says. “But that doesn’tmean anything, really. They could be somewhere else, or they could be here andgood at hiding.”
Kakashi doesn’t like either option, really. He would have much preferred to find Obito lost in the woods, or maybe outcold in a ditch. Unlikely, but better than Orochimaru’s sly why yes I did hear of something interesting, maybe they were going to summon an Elder God? Or perhaps it was a Calamity froma Past Age, I can't quite recall.
He probably would have been ableto recall if Minato had asked him to lunch, Kakashi thinks, maybe a touchsourly.
“I feel like we should let ANBUhandle this,” he offers, even though he already knows it’s a lost cause.
“I'm pretty sure Orochimaruwould be asking them out on a date,”Minato says, desert-dry. “And I wouldn’t personally want to steer them in hisdirection, but maybe that’s just me.”
Explaining to the local magical restrictionenforcement squad how they got the information on the summoning from an illegalwarlock who’s possibly bound to a goddess of death and destruction is not a conversation Kakashi wants to have,so he doesn’t try to argue.
Dear Minato, I am so sad we had to part. I really liked this teacher / student thing we had going on until you became Hokage. I will spy on the Akatsuki because you asked. I will leave messages, letters. I dream of you every night. Don't let Danzo get to you. Stay true to your beliefs. Get a wife, a child, be happy in my absence. Be my light. I am heading into dark times so I want you to be OK. Forget me, I shall return 10 years from now. Forgive me for whom I shall become. Forever yours, O.
@uchihacollector
Why was it that this man often asked, if not demanded the impossible? He wanted to obtain what was an impossible dream and still went for it wholeheartedly. Minato leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. The letter lay limp in his hands before his fingers tightened at the edges, threatening to tear the paper. That was all the emotion he allowed himself to show.He took a deep, shuddering breath and as he exhaled the words burned in his mind as they turned to ash in between his fingers. They would do what they must…even if it brought nothing but pain. A determined glint gleamed in Minato’s eyes as he got to work on his latest project.
minato: think about it this way! the hardest part of being hokage is wrangling maniacs and i am now an expert :)
hiruzen: hm. and your techniques for your girlfriend are things that can be appropriately replicated on employees who you dont know well?
minato: ... fuck
i immediately imagined a wild AU where minato attempts to solve all interpersonal problems by sleeping with them
minato: what if instead of leaving in a huff to go do more unethical human experiments, you....... dated me instead : )
orochimaru: what an insane suggestion
orochimaru: i'm interested
[meme] MinaOro, hahaha. ;)
Give me a ship and I’ll tell you a pro and a con to thatship.
MinaOro
@uchihacollector
Pro: With both beingpraised as THE geniuses of their respective generations, I imagine they couldget a lot done if they worked together. Whether its jutsu, policies, orinventions, with enough motivation and inspiration they could provide oneanother I wouldn’t be surprised if there is little they wouldn’t be capable of.Of course, if what they do is good or not depends on their motives and whattheir desired outcomes would be. But on the positive side, there are likely alot of problems they could solve. (Bonus pro: the sex xD)
Con: They are similar but not the same, so theywould clash on occasion. It’d be a constant battle between Minato’s moralcompass and Orochimaru’s logic. (I say logic because I honestly can’t think ofa better word, I apologize.) The result of either being completely dominated bythe other’s motivations (Mina’s remaining humanity being pushed aside orOrochimaru possibly losing sight of his goals, which is a large part of hisidentity) has the potential to be rather interesting…if not disastrous. It doesn’t help that both have the potential to be VERY manipulative.
