When the darkness comes, if you ever have doubt about your actions, all you need do is look into the face of a Vorlon. Once you see that, all doubt is erased forever.

i think i made her look a little older here, mostly because the eyes might be a tad bit smaller and some more crease details due to the light from that particular scene, but overall i think its okay. its recognizeable and it that counts the most when doing these
I cannot stop drawing Delenn
a redraw of an old doodle
Putting 'em all together in one post, my Babylon 5 watercolor triptych is done! I had originally just done the Delenn one, but inspiration struck and a G'kar followed, and a Londo soon after. It's never too late to get into a show that's been off the air for decades! Bonus: They look so nice hanging on my wall, I might actually get some frames one of these days :')
So, Babylon 5 OC coming in!
Name: Aurora Tar
Age: 25 years old
Race: Human-Minbari hybrid
Speacial features: Albino
Medical conditions: Strong and frequent migraines, an excessive amount of allergies.
Speacial abilities: Very strong intuition (closer to a prophetic sense)
Character: reserved, peaceful (but will fight if necessary), courageous, altruistic, passionate about her interests, cautious, poetic, sligtly cynical, honest, loyal.
Languages: English, Minbari
Skills and talents: Space craft piloting, dancing, Denn'bok fighting.
Caste: Warrior (self-identified)
Fears: Arachnophobia (fear of spiders)
Favourite colour: Violet
Romantic attraction: Straight (Neroon)
This character was created as an attempt to imagine a human-Minbari hybrid who would be an actual combination of different genes and not a result of self-inflicted transformation like it happened in Delenn's case.
Aurora is a biological experiment commited by her parents who met far before the official date of the first contact while being stranded together on a far away planet after each of them crash-landed there (later discovered by Humans). She is quite self-conscious about her origins, especially since neither of her parents' species seems to be happy about her existence. She is used to being insulted and even refers to herself as an "abomination" at times, believing her creation was a mistake. However, deep inside, she yearns for true connection and love.
If you have any questions about her, feel free to ask me!
One of the things I think about sometimes in Babylon 5 is that the Earth-Minbari war started with a stupid (but understandable!) cultural misunderstanding - deploying open gun ports to signal respect and peaceful intentions, which the Earth ship very understandably took as a sign of aggression and acted accordingly.
This is, obviously, partly a problem with the Earth ship going out there without adequate preparation after the Centauri told them not to, but it's also not just a human problem; the Minbari very clearly have been so isolationist for so long that they simply don't understand how to interact with other species very well. The Centauri consider them too dangerous to mess with, and leave them alone. (Which also means that Londo, Vir, et al would've grown up thinking of the Minbari as Those Scary Weirdos Over There, not too different from the Vorlons, which must have made it interesting to suddenly be living next door to Delenn and working with her ...)
But like, aside from just leaving them alone like the Centauri do, there's no way the Earth delegation could have learned enough to interact with them safely, because the aliens simply don't talk to each other. Which of course is the whole point of Babylon 5 ...
I like thinking that B5 is decommissioned after 20 years not just because they no longer need it due to the (more or less) lasting peace, but also because what it was created to be - a place where different species could mingle and learn about each other - is no longer unusual, because a lot of places are like this now. It's the norm, not the exception.
If you lived on Babylon 5, what would be your ideal job?
I’d absolutely apply to be Delenn’s attaché. I’m confident I could outperform Lennier with the very simple strategy of not attempting to assassinate her husband. Low bar, but I’d clear it. Also, we’d obviously become best friends. I can help style her hair, carry ceremonial fruit, and hype her up before big council moments.
okay is anyone into babylon 5 and good at drawing like new yorker style gag comics. because I have a really funny idea for one but I have no visual art ability.
scene: very obviously not supposed to be there human walking into room that is FULL of minbari. like a religious caste service or something. everyone there is giving him very perturbed "you just disturbed something important" looks.
