(Warning rambling ahead)
Does anyone else just play out random fanfic ideas in their head? Bc I’m doing that a lot with bg3 and the dynamic between Minthara and Gale which I find so interesting
So, it’s maybe a year post canon. In my head it’s Gale and Astarion together living in Waterdeep (bloodweave is my fave), redeemed Durge and Minthara are together, Wyll and Karlach are together in Avernus. Maybe Shadowheart and Halsin
Anyway
I believe in my mind that after the netherbrain, Minthara softens a great deal much to her frustration. She’s seen Durge resist Bhaal, Astarion resist ascension, Gale resist godhood and Shadowheart resist Shar. Maybe she realises power isn’t everything and rethinks things. She wants to rebuild her family name but it different terms, she wants daughters but she doesn’t want them to grow up with the pressure she did. She goes from ‘men are stupid and not worth my time’ to ‘men are idiots and regretfully I care for some of them’
After a year or so, she decides she wants a daughter. And while, yes, a full Drow child is most ideal, she hates Drow men and she’d rather not have to interact with more men than she already acquiesces.
She she weighs her options.
Astarion is attractive, but vain and definitely sterile (my headcanon)
Wyll is fine. He’d be fine. But he’d be so morally indebted to the child that she figures Karlach would get frustrated and Minthara herself would find it annoying. She needs someone who doesn’t have quite that sense of duty. Also fuck going to Avernus
Halsin is out of the question, well…well because she literally imprisoned him and the only reason she’s invited to events is bc Durge loves her and convinces him to.
That leaves….
Our dear Wizard.
Minthara is beyond frustrated that her only option is Gale, Wizard. But. She does respect him as she’s gotten to know him. He’s a precious archmage and by the brain battle he’s a fucking tank and he’s the ‘only’ wizard worth her time. Also he’s a squishy human, which doesn’t fill her with delight but she also knows that he’s not likely to jump into parental duties, as she wants to raise this child herself, with Durge at the side.
So she asks him to sire her child. She lays out the expectations or lack there of and eventually all parties come to an agreement. (Although she insists on a daughter and if she gets a son, Astarion and Gale will be taking him, much to Astarion’s horror)
Gale however has spells and potions and eventually sires a daughter with Minthara.
Over time, Gale becomes more involved (Minthara said she’d never hide their daughter’s parentage from her) and the four of them become a weird family unit that flits between the underdark and waterdeep
And then imagine (and this is the point of my rant), when the child is a bit more grown, while training with Minthara, casts a perfect firebolt.
Imagine the feeling Minthara has when she realises her child….has a connection to the weave.
Ofc it wasn’t unexpected but the reality of her own spawn being a wizard makes her teleport to waterdeep in an instant
‘Wizard! Your child is casting things!’
And Gale just beams at his daughter.
Anyway, so dumb but that’s all my tired mind can think about atm
