I HAVE A MIGHTY GODDAMN NEED FOR THIS PLOT
For sake of clarity, we'll refer to the characters as A and B because either partner can play the part. Gender, species, fandom, none of that matters for this. -flails
Character A buys a house. Character B is a ghost who died either next door or in the house. Character A can see, touch, and hear B as if they were real. B doesn't understand why. Romance isn't necessary, but a strong friendship would help.
A is suffering from some sort of trauma (mental illness, physical illness, emotional trauma, memory loss, anything really) which is why A can see B. A's trauma, when A is really upset or emotional, can take a physical form (D) and can bodily harm A and B.
B has their dark secrets, and when B is upset, they morph right into what they looked like when they died, and turn into the classic angry, bloody spirit instead of a physical, sentient being. They have to deal with these issues, while D is trying to kill them both.
It can go in two ways, where either A dies to be with B, or A gets better from their trauma and slowly loses the ability to interact with B and we can take it in a ton of directions and I just want the thing.
