To counter all the hate and desperate messages to fear “otherness,” try this simple practice. For one entire day, each time you glance at someone new instantly try to find something to love about them. Focus on simple things; their smile, their choice of clothing, the way they move, the way they sound, the way they smell, their eyes. Find something right away to love about them. At first glance we very often seek out and identify things we don’t like about others; we first find things that make us seem different. This exercise can change that habit. This exercise when done for an entire day can help us default to first noticing what we like about others, and this forms an instant connection, even with total strangers. We cannot control the messages we are getting from those whose only source of power is fear. But we can control our reaction to these messages. A simple act of mental jujitsu can turn hate into love, and “otherness” into oneness. #mindyourthoughts (at Yogasmith) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bprv0RUnzaS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=p6o5rm5dlo1p
