I never understood quartz. It makes very elegantly enough sense for use in Redstone blocks, but I'm pretty sure the rest of it was ridiculous. "Hey, Mojang, when are you going to add marble? It was lots of fun in Tekkit." So Mojang decided to add a block that looks like marble, but were for some reason law-abidden to "be different" and made decorative quartz. "This isn't marble, but it's JUST as good!" Oh yeah, and also you need to go to "hell" and mine for bloody ages to get enough of it, because it's an ore. In hell. Where the lava and ancient airborne fire monsters are.
