Glowstone dust mixed with water can make a thick potion which is also edible indicating it might be something useful for cooking and baking. Its use would vary depending on if the potion’s thickness is like mucus, gelatin, cornstarch or what have you but regardless it might be a surprisingly useful thing to have around.

It's used in many recipes. Wether you're making nether wart pudding, or an apple tart, it's used. It's surprisingly also used in a lot of festive recipes, such as jellies or cupcakes, due to its glow in the dark features! kids go crazy about it!

I've always wanted to make a fake-mob, so I present to you the Glowstone Bee! Inspired by an event in a Minecraft server I was in! I might make more Minecraft mobs later down the line if people enjoy this. 🐝 The Glowstone Bee can, of course, be found the nether. Easily found near or in glowstone clumps, harvesting the dust to produce their honey with. They evolved their coats to match the glowstone to blend in, hiding from the dangerous creatures in the nether that find their honey super sweet and tasty. Piglins crave the stuff, obsessed with it's gold colouring, and using the honey to also craft spectral arrows. They are larger in size compared to the overworld bees, and do more damage to the player when attacked, but have very similar behaviors like their overworld counterparts. They are also fire proof, due to their life in the nether. This means that campfires do not work on them, so instead to keep them claim you have to set up a dripstone water system above the hive to keep them calm. With their honey, you can either drink it to apply a glow effect on yourself, turn it into a splash potion to use on other players/mobs, or combine it with arrows to make spectral arrows. You can also harvest glowstone from the hive instead of honey combs, either or potion usage, or to craft more glowstone blocks. You can use glowstone to also breed the bees, and attract them to follow. They are able to live in the overworld, but best to have a couple of glowstone blocks around for them to harvest off of, and make some glowstone hives for them to rest in.

Among other things, I wonder how glowstone works. It’s nice to think of it as an actual stone, but then I feel it’d drop like cobble or deepslate instead of turning into dust…

Instead, I feel it might be an extremely specialized type of fungus, since the nether tends to be filled with mushrooms in general. Something with the texture of a frozen bubble or a type of slime mold like wolf’s milk slime, but something that shatters or spreads spores more like puffball mushrooms.

It’d be super fragile in its natural state, explaining why it’d turn to dust if you try to harvest it without silk touch. The spores/dust itself isn’t as luminous, but can be re-compacted into blocks for use in construction or jewelry, etc. It’d have a different texture in compacted block form, but eventually start to grow out like it naturally does in the nether if given the right conditions.

It’d also explain why it’s edible, with its use in potions! Nether wart is also a potent potion ingredient, so nether fungi seem to work for a good range of uses. I wonder if warped or crimson fungi/stems/nylium/etc. could also be used in brewing as a substitute for one or the other? Maybe have different effects entirely?

I just think glowstone’s neat :)
