At least I put away my maps and valuables before I stood on the edge of the hole and accidentally fell down into a deep, dark waterfall pit of doom. Like, such a dumb accident. My fingers were just on the wrong keys and I went sideways instead of backwards. Ugh. Dudes, this totally wasn’t the waterfall I was going to ride down, lol!
The fall didn’t totally kill me (it was about 15 blocks), but whew boy, there were so many monsters down here in the dark. With hardly any health left, I couldn’t have lasted long, but a creeper got me first before I could find my wits and build a dirt instabunker.
Like, really. Look at all these monsters...
*brightens photo to see in the dark*
I respawned up top and came down the waterfall again to try to collect my dropped goodies. My diamond enchanted armor! My diamond enchanted pickaxe! Well, the easy thing about waterfalls is getting down them, except I’m crap at riding waterfalls and there are skeletons shooting at me as I was coming down. My armor is on the ground, remember, so I’m basically dead before I can reach the bottom. Then once I’m on the bottom, there are at least a dozen monsters waiting to kill me and I don’t even have time to find my dropped goodies and get my armor on.
You don’t need to see all the screens, but here’s a good summary. Died ten times, still don’t have my armor back.
Finally, one of the attempts was miraculous and I did somehow manage to snatch up a couple pieces of my armor and a stack of gravel to hide behind.
Super quick, put on the armor and build an instabunker.
It’s almost totally dark down here, but I could just about see the waterfall leading back up. Where were all the monsters now? I don’t freaking know, but they left me alone long enough that I made it to the waterfall with my armor on and zoomed up.
I got out with an iron sword and my diamond helmet and chestplate. Nothing else. Lost my leggings, boots, and a diamond pickaxe.
Holy shit, you guys!
So I put my diamond armor away safely in a chest, and since I’ve already wiped out my xp clean, I went back down a couple more times with nothing but torches and did a couple suicide missions to light the place up. I’ve died enough times already, so why not a couple times more?
Now that it’s all lit up and the monsters are cleared out, here’s a better view of the giant waterfall pit of doom!
Well, now that I’ve gone through the trouble (and death) and I’m down here, I might as well pick the walls. There’s a lot of iron down here, and a good bit of lapis.
Oh man, this game is stressful! I love hate love it, lol!
Note to self: store leather boots at your spawn point!
I didn’t have any boots, or any leather at all. So I just grabbed what I had on hand and hurried off across the ocean back to the mountain, in hopes that my dropped goodies might still be there. I died on the snowy foothills of the mountain, not the peak, so I wasn’t sure if I’d need the leather boots.
Yes, folks, I needed the boots. I got only a few steps into the snow, hit powder snow, and sunk deep.
Lucky me, I do make it a habit to keep a spare set of tools and some random pieces of armor at my spawn point. I had a pickaxe and shovel. Here’s a tip: if you’re freezing to death in powder snow without boots, mine down into the stone or dirt beneath you and then dig the powder snow away from you.
So, at least I didn’t die on that mountain a second time. 😑
But then night fell, then the monsters came and I had no bed. So I just hung out here in my cold burrow until morning. Then back to the ocean to speed home to my base, where I do keep spare leather. Made some boots. Went back to the mountain. Again.
It had now been WAY longer than five minutes since my death. Like 15 or 20 minutes, after everything. I have encountered a rare fluke when my dropped goodies stayed in a spot long after my death, but not this time. My dropped goodies were super gone. :(
Lesson learned: when you’re snowy mountain-climbing in Minecraft, always keep a few pairs of spare leather boots laying around! And bring a travel bed to reset your spawn point.
i have died three (four?) times trying to mine ancient debris and thus learned to store my things before making stuff explode near me in a lava-filled environment
