Ideas for additional features in the Caves and Cliffs Update!
Cenotes. This is my favorite, to be honest. They should generate in jungle biomes. Cenotes are common in the Yucatan peninsula. The limestone rock of the land has slowly eroded over time forming cave systems and underground rivers, and a cenote forms when the roof collapses in! Makes for a good swimming area, with a eerie touch as you look through clear water to see cave passages far below disappearing into the depths...
Mega Crystals! This photo is from the Cave of Crystals in Naica, Mexico. The crystals are selenite, a variety of gypsum, but I'll look the other way if the developers want to use quartz which is already in-game. This biome should be rare, since it takes an incredibly long period of time for crystals to grow to be this large.
Soda straws! Should be included with the stalagmites and stalactites. Very fragile, will break if you step on it or jump into it. Occasionally should drip water onto you--a cave kiss!
Limestone block! Come on Mojang, you can't just do a cave update and not have limestone! Limestone is a major component of "karst" landscapes, which is an area where limestone has dissolved and formed caves, sinkholes, underground rivers, etc. Most caves form in limestone.
Lava tubes! This is probably best suited for if we get an update with volcanoes (sister of the mountain update??) or suited to be put in the nether. Could possibly be made of basalt or obsidian or blackstone. This photo is from Hawaii.
Cave paintings! We're getting archeology and painting pottery fragments in this update, and I think that occasionally adding some cave paintings would add an amazing effect on the atmosphere. These should only spawn at a high y-levels, near the surface. This picture is from the Lascaux cave in France, one of the most famous examples of prehistoric art.
Glacial caves! Should spawn in around the new snowier mountains, or in ice biomes. This photo is of one in Alaska.
