My new meadow in Minecraft, see from overhead. I will build a house here, but the first goal is to survive the night.
I’m posing in my brand-new set of iron armor while standing in front of my still unfinished meadow house. I mined enough iron to make a complete set of armor and an iron sword. It’s not as sexy as diamond or netherite, but it will keep me alive when fighting mobs. I’ll need it here on the outskirts of the dark oak forest, where lots of creepy things dwell.
I spawned into my new world in a meadow. It’s a gorgeous meadow, surrounded by dark oak trees and giant mushrooms. I can see a few taller jungle trees in the distance, so I’m never going to be in a shortage for wood.
The first order of business in my new world is to gather some wood for basic tools and then to start building a shelter to survive the first night. The deep, dark woods grows eyes when the sun sets on the horizon, so there’s no time to waste.
The new Meadow biome is definitely my new favourite, knocking giant tree taiga off of its long-held pedestal. The water is a perfect deep colour, the land is a perfect mix of flat and hilled, with lovely flowers and a lovely shade of grass. I wasn't so sure about the new generation at first, but now that mistakes and bugs have been ironed out, it looks like it fits just right into the game. The world feels so big now, so REAL!! and yet STILL so silly and minecrafty!!! I feel as if I'm playing the game again for the first time <3
Here I am laying down a cobblestone foundation for my starting house in the meadow. The rest of the house will be a combination of (what else?) dark oak wood and regular oak wood. But for the foundation, I’ll use some cobblestone because I sure have a lot of it!
Here I am planting seeds for a modest garden. It’s not exactly a giant wheat farm yet, but once these plants grow, I’ll have enough to begin cultivating an animal farm for food and XP.
Soon I’ll build a house in the meadow above, but for the first night in my new Minecraft survival mode game, I’m staying safely underground in a simple tunnel I dug as daylight began to wane.
I like having a tunnel and some storage rooms underneath my house in Minecraft. It gives me a place to explore and mine for materials like coal and iron without having to worry about attacking mobs. This is important at the start of a new game when you don’t have armor yet and a single attack from a Creeper or a skeleton with good aim can spell doom.
Here I’m digging out a room that’s about 10 blocks below the surface. I’ll use it as a staging area until I’m ready to dig deeper down to the very bottom of the world.
It took longer than I thought it would to gather enough materials to build a proper house for the night. My usual plan is to build a little dirt house first and then upgrade it to something nicer looking. This time, I decided to just start digging a staircase down below ground, where I would be safe from the mobs that spawn up above.
I made my first set of torches using charcoal from wood burned in a furnace. These will provide enough light in my staircase tunnel for the first night. On the next day, I can start building my meadow house over the tunnel I have started.
