Hello!!! I just wanted to say that i absolutely adore your character desighns. I have genuenly NO idea how youre able to do color theory so dang well and also make characters that full of personality. Also your Gerard is the best thing my eyes have ever experienced thank you wholeheartedly aghfhfsbjtj
I’ve turned your praise towards me and I place a “here’s color stuff” onto the field and end my turn.
(Thank you deeply for the compliment, working in color used to scare me a lot but I’ve been working towards using it in my stuff more often. I’m also glad you think my characters are so lively, someday I’ll make an expressions guide. You have a beautiful day 🥺)

This may seem like a no-brainer but believe me when I tell you there are students who won’t know when or how many classes they have. This will only lead to stress and an unorganised mind. Check your schedule for the first period/semester ideally 2 weeks before school officially starts. That way you’ll have plenty of time to plan other activities around your lectures!
🍂 make friends, especially the first few weeks
Now, call me naive but I thought I could go through uni all by myself, without the headache of keeping up with the social scene but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Most studies are fairly big, with the number of students being 300 or even more if you follow a popular study. Simply put, this means chaos. Having friends to answer questions like: “When did the professor say the deadline was? Do we get the extra points if we do x, y, z? What was the new date for the midterm?” will save your academic life more than once. Two people know more than one, so help each other! Plus sitting next to someone you know and having people to talk to about your courses is very comforting to have :)
🕰️ make your assignments on time!
I know this is an obvious one, but trust me when I say that pushing that assignment, project, or homework to the very last day will only give you unnecessary stress. Ideally you should start your assignment on the day it’s been published so you can really take your time to grasp the concepts being discussed, thus preparing you better for the upcoming midterm and finals (less work for future you!)
🧸 make time for rest and relaxation!
Many students will tell you that they don’t have time for anything besides their study. In my honest opinion, this is easily dodged by simply having decent time management. I try to plan the following week on a Sunday so I know what assignments are due, when my classes are, etc. In my experience it’s more difficult to follow the planning I made than actually making it, so try to keep it realistic. You’re probably not gonna manage to write 2 essays and make an assignment in one single day so keep that in mind. I’d suggest to go to campus (or a cafe or library or another cosy study spot) in the morning and stay there until the afternoon. This makes you more productive and gives you free time for the whole evening!
I hope you found some good tips in this mini guide and please, do let me know if you liked it and would like to see more such posts <3
On the basis of this post, i thought i ought to make a mini set of things non-poc writers can implement in order to make their writings race inclusive + have a strong grapple on perceiving how a piece tends to practise race exclusivity and how it ought be remedied.
*poc - person(s) of colour.
sfw.
*blushing ⤦
at what point is this condoning exclusion of poc?
when you describe blushing as a visual representation of fluster, esp. pertaining to ‘becoming red’ and other alternatives prescribed to explain redness of one’s skin - at this stage the aforementioned description counts as exclusion of poc because redness isn’t visible for all skin colours, specifically on dark skin.
what is an alternative I can employ to describe blushing?
while an ocular illustration of a character experiencing fluster, anger, sadness or embarrassment is limited to light skin, those feelings definitely aren’t; describe the feeling of blushing as ‘warmth’, ‘heat’ and suchlike.
*physical rudiments ⤦
at what point is this condoning exclusion of poc?
description of eyes of a specific colour, esp. that belonging to caucasian person.
long, flowing, cascading or any other indication to straight hair particularly.
what can I do to introduce my character more if not any of the characteristics above are applicable?
divert your attention from the self insert characters’ looks to their personality, focus on character building reflected through attire, ticks, dialogues, etc.
nsfw.
*physical rudiments ⤦
at what point is this condoning exclusion of poc?
describing private parts as ‘pink’, or an action, e.g. smacking, which prompt’s the character’s skin to go red.
what can I do to portray those physical aspects, if not with colour?
exclude, again, a specific visual representation of how your character is. focus on elucidating how your character is feeling, i.e. in terms of pleasure - feeling lightheaded, knitted eyebrows, lips curled upwards, etc.
It’s the aqua/taurus leo moon anon! Who completely forgot about her leo rising when she sent the ask... how does that play in? Usually I see the other placements being attracted TO the rising but does it also got he other way around?
Absolutely, rising is active too. It's not passive and charms and attracts other but is also charmed and attracted. Some stuff I've noticed about rising:
✨ You could admire or at least the traits a person who has their sun sign as your rising sign, BUT it doesn't function if you're a double sign (same sun + rising)
✨ You enjoy the company of someone who has their moon sign as your rising sign ( you truly appreciate the warmth the moon person gives you)
✨ You love and enjoy the vibe of another same rising sign, it's like you're immediately clicking
✨ You could like the ideas and views or to some extent even the voice of someone who has their mercury sign as your rising sign
✨ You could feel the same as the moon but with an erotic tension with someone who has their venus sign as your rising sign
✨ You could feel competitive, passionate or enraged with someone who has their mars sign as your rising sign
Improving your handwriting will improve your drawing. Write one or both of the sentences below by hand and for reference:
The five boxing wizards jump quickly.
Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs.
Writing (written language) depends on the imagination of the reader. It connects reader to author. The scope is unlimited.
Art (visual language) depends on the imagination of the artist. It can be literal or cryptic. Its scope is not so much limited, as it is more controlled.
Let's look at a pool of words:
dog
perro
hund
chien
犬
fish
pez
fisk
poisson
鱼
I've chosen a general word for this demo. You recall a group of images, stories, and memories associated with it when you read it.
Quickly jot down or collect a few thoughts and ideas about dogs, fish, whatever you want! It may look like a jumbled mess.
Next phase of this exercise we are going to effectively "summarize" or select a few key concepts into a typographic. Every solid illustration begins with a solid plan!
Write your word a couple of different ways: lowercase, uppercase, cursive, thinly, thickly, small, large!
Now, using any of the ways you’ve written it as a shape guide:
Try to fit the word inside of the image.
Fit the image inside the word.
Spell the word with images that describe it.
Draw an image that communicates your ideas and integrate the word into it.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, or complete!
And that my friends, is the basics of designing with type!!! Hope it helps!
