Minimum Monument at Kendal Castle, Lakes Alive event today, the conception of internationally acclaimed artist, Néle Azevedo. Minimum Monument is a poignant and moving display featuring thousands of figures made out of frozen water by the artist, her team of technicians and volunteers - a public intervention artwork which is a powerful reminder of the fragility of our planet and the communities it supports. As such this is a climate change awareness project and has been filmed to highlight that point.

紀念一次大戰 英國伯明罕坐在台階上的小冰人

最近看了一本書《世界就是這樣結束的》，由逗點文創結社發行。作者 Nevil Shute 虛構了發生第三次世界大戰後的景象，由於敵對國家各自使用了核子武器，北半球遭到嚴重的核污染，無一生物倖免，隨著季風與氣流的吹送，南半球在幾個月後也難逃核污染的侵害，人類終於走到世界末日。看完之後心情沉重了許久，這是一本還沒看完就知道結局將會如何的故事，作者平淡地敘述這些在澳洲尚未遭到侵襲的人們是如何度過最後的日子，然後平靜地在最後將全人類宣判死刑。

歷經了兩次世界大戰，我想地球應該也無法再承受第三次了，那將會是非常具有毀滅性的一場戰爭，結局與《世界就是這樣結束的》相去不遠。

日前，一位巴西藝術家 Néle Azevedo 在英國伯明罕的張伯倫廣場階梯上，放上了許多用冰模製作出的小人，任憑這些坐在階梯上的小冰人漸漸失去自己的肢體，慢慢融化。

這些放在烈日下的小冰人們弓著身子、交叉的雙腳、若有所思的孤苦模樣，共有 5000 座，Néle Azevedo 將它們命名為 Minimum Monument，以緬懷戰中逝去的人民。

Néle Azevedo 表示，她希望打破傳統的紀念碑形象，採用了冰雕塑，融化之後持續補上，特此紀念那些不被掛名在石碑上的亡者。

Sometimes, the most powerful art is the temporary stuff. It's the sight that only a few get to behold. Somehow, graffiti falls into this category, with tags that get painted over within a few days. Then there are the artists who create with a more fragile medium...

Nele Azevedo is a Sao Paulo-based artist that started putting ice sculptures in city squares and major plazas and took photos of them as they melted. Azevedo's project is called Monumento Mínimo (or "Minimum Monument"); it explores the idea of the "anti-monument," subverting the characteristics of official monuments in public places.

"The homage is rendered to the anonymous," she writes in an e-mail. "The ice bodies disappear in the city, in a shared experience."
