Why Your Resume Didn't Get You That Interview
You don’t meet the minimum qualifications. No matter how nicely formatted your resume is or how friendly you are, if you do not meet the minimum qualifications for a position the employer most likely cannot interview you. If a position is master’s required and you don’t have one, you probably shouldn’t apply (and it kind of makes it look like you weren’t paying attention).
It isn’t clear that you meet the minimum qualifications. Make it as easy as possible for employers to look at your resume and see that you are qualified for the positions for which you are applying. If a position requires one year of live-on experience, make sure that the words “live-on” are on your resume and in your cover letter.
Your TPE profile is incomplete. Employers will sort by master’s degree field, years of experience, geographic area of interest, and institution type to ensure that you meet the aforementioned minimum qualifications, and that they are reaching out to the right candidates. Make sure you have answered every question to give yourself the best chance of being found and being invited to interview.
Your resume isn’t up to date. Make sure your current position and responsibilities, your summer internship, and your most recent presentations and committee involvement are all included. Review your resume once it is posted as well to make sure that it is appearing correctly and the correct document was uploaded (especially if you have multiple versions of your resume saved in the same place).
Your resume is a mess. If your resume is hard to navigate, employers are not going to put in the time to decode it and see if you have the experience they are looking for or not. Stick with a standard format and make sure you save as a PDF to ensure that it will show up correctly on every device.
