Minimus didn’t do this sort of thing. He never did this sort of thing. He could be…rash at times, yes, but this was entirely unlike him.

Stealing a person from the government. What was he thinking?

“You’re—very fast,” the orange mech said. He was holding onto Minimus quite tightly.

“Am I?” That probably wasn’t the correct answer. He was so bad at speaking to people in situations he hadn’t planned for. “That is—thank you.”

It was only after he’d said it that he realized it might not have been a compliment. He was always misinterpreting these things.

“You’re welcome? Oh, oh! Watch out for that—oh by the pious pools, how did you make that jump?”

Minimus looked back briefly at the wall he’d just vaulted. Was it unusually high? It hadn’t been hard to leap over it.

Minimus turned his head forward again. It wouldn’t do to trip.

“I suppose the momentum might have made it easier. Ah—I apologize,” he said, belatedly. “I never asked you for your name.”

For some reason, the orange mech laughed at that.

“I suppose you’re right,” he said, chuckling. “He haven’t been formally introduced, have we? My name is Rung. Rung of the Pious Pools.”

“Minimus Ambus of Ambustus Minor,” Minimus said. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. Are you all right? You seemed—”

How to put it? He’d never heard someone make that sort of noise before, a sound of pure agony unlike any other. It was still ringing in his audials.

Rung just laughed again. “You know, I think I’ll be just fine.”
