Meeting a minor Internet celebrity the first stepping stone towards Lacey’s freedom, as it spread to the public the existence of a siren illegally kept in captivity for a private collection,
Later on a raid was arranged on the property, for the authorities to seize the endangered specimen and have her transferred to a rehabilitation center.

A mini siren illegally captured and kept as an exotic creature for a private collection, Not properly socialized after a lifetime in captivity, where she tends to gnaw on the fake coral or scratch at her own fins, in lack of better things to do in her tank.

Some concept sketches done over the holidays, as I had the urge to create a new OC for The Ocean AU server I’m member of.
Meet Lacey, she is what is called a mini siren and was illegally captured from the wild very young to be sold to a private collection of exotic sea creatures. In this universe sirens are known but also a protected species, so this is very much not allowed.
She’ll eventually rescued to be attempted rehabilitated back to the ocean. But until then, she lives in a tank to perform tricks for the owner when on display as a rarity.
She’s a betta fish, with a bad habit of tearing at her own fins from frustrations and loneliness.

Lil continuation on my Ocean AU siren Lacey’ journey to freedom after a lifetime in illegal captivity.
Cassidy Bach an Internet influencer unaware of the illegal nature of the captured siren on display, when sharing photos and videos of Lacey that later lead to enough evidence for authorities to send a raid on the private collection and claim Lacey for rehabilitation.
Disgusted by her own ignorance, Cassidy sets out onto her own journey to do better and help those endangered creatures any way she can.
