What happened to the Irish potatoes omg I'm actually curious and concerned

Ok everyone time for a History Lesson™

Basically, at that time Ireland’s staple food was potatoes and Ireland was under England’s control. So then the potatoes crops caught blight so they couldn’t eat them anymore.

Then it got worse cause England’s prime minister resigned and a new prime minister took over. The new government refused to stop exporting food from Ireland to England (cause we did grow other crops but England was taking it for themselves) and then good old Charles Treveylan who was supposed to be in charge of the “food aid program” refused to actually send Ireland much food because he believed “the judgement of God sent the calamity to teach the Irish a lesson” (a lesson for what?? we may never know). So if you ever come to Ireland and you see a random wall in the middle of nowhere or a random road? They were built during the famine, the British government decided to make the Irish work for food but strictly said that they couldn’t do anything useful (ok England however you get your kicks I guess).

So like over a million people died.
