5 Game Point Streak Has MN United FC Hotter Than the Sun
Written By Steve Rogers Match up: MN United FC vs. Houston Dynamo FC When: Saturday 7:30 pm CT, July 23, 2022 Where: Houston, Texas Coverage: ESPN + Venue: PNC Stadium The Minnesota United FC are becoming the "Goldbergs" of the MLS this year. As in, they seem to be asking, "Who's Next!" They have now won five of their last six matches, with a lone tie as the only misstep this month. You have to go back to June 25, 2022, to find the last time this team has felt a loss, which was their third consecutive. It's not like they're just picking on lesser opponents either. They began this streak with a road win against L.A. Galaxy. Then a home win against RSL, who they are now battling for third place in the western conference. After a quick trip north to Vancouver and another victory, they returned home to face SKC, who rallied late for a one-all tie. Staying home and welcoming D.C. United, the black and blue stayed focused and won on the strength of Emanuel Reynoso's Brace. His third of the season. Not done winning as Premier League club, Everton came to town for an International Friendly, and they left stunned by the Loons, who dominated from start to finish final score of 4-0. So, who is next? The Mn United FC will go back on the road this Saturday, 7/23/22, and head south to Texas to face Houston Dynamo FC. The Dynamo are 7-4-10 on the year, good for 11th in the western conference. The Dynamo has a goal differential of negative two. The top goal scorers for them are Darwin Quintero and Sebastian Ferreira. Both have seven goals. Adam Lundqvist leads the Dynamo in assists with five. Those sound like good numbers. Unfortunately, it hasn't translated into team wins. In fact, the Dynamo are currently struggling, having lost three of their last five. If there is a plus side, their only win in their previous five came in their most recent game on July 17th against the San Jose Earthquakes. That may not be enough. Because on the flip side coming to town are the hottest team in all of the MLS, the MN United FC. The United FC come into this match as hot as the sun itself. Having won four of their last five MLS matches with a draw in the middle. Plus, they just hosted Everton of the PL in an International Friendly and thoroughly trounced them 4-0. They even substituted all starters for the second half, and even they found a way to put one in the back of the net. The United FC confidence level has to be sky high at this point. Combine this streak with the last five matches these two clubs have had head to head, and MN United FC is still on fire, having won three consecutive games and two additional draws. This continues to play into the Mn United FC's hands as they look to keep this ball of momentum rolling. They get to roll into hostile territory while dominating overall but also individually against their next opponent. It seems like when you have a goalkeeper like Dayne St. Clair who is putting up clean sheets on one side of the ball. Then on the other, you have possibly the best Midfielder in all of the MLS, Emanuel Reynoso. On the year, he has nine total goals; of those, he has scored three Brace (s) this season. They have both been so good they have been named to the MLS All-Star Game, which will be held in their home stadium of Allianz Field, coming up on Aug. 10th. When you put together an All-Star Goalkeeper with an All-Star midfielder, you get a magical mixture. This match against Houston is one of two left before the All-Star break. Let's see if the MN United FC can remain undefeated till the break. As always, scarves up, Minnesota! Read the full article
Next for Minnesota United FC an International Friendly
Written By Steve Rogers International Friendly: Minnesota United FC vs. Everton FC Wednesday, July 20, 2022 Location: Allianz Field Kickoff: 7:00p.m. CT Broadcast: Bally Sports North and ESPN + (coverage starts at 6:30 p.m.) Broadcast Stream: ballysports.com The Black and Blue of MN United FC welcomed the Black and Red of D.C. United FC on Saturday night. On the strength of yet another brilliant performance by Emanuel Reynoso, who scored a pair of goals to help lead his Loons to victory. He has been named the MLS week 21 Player Of The Week. The MN United have been seemingly unstoppable all month long as they have now been unbeaten in five straight matches. Having won four of their last five with a single draw mixed in, they have skyrocketed up the standings from the bottom to a top three squad. Next up for the MN United is an interesting midweek matchup against a Premier League side, Everton F.C. Everton is preparing for the 2022 -2023 season with a short two-match tour of the U.S.A. Their first of these two matches was last week on Saturday against fellow EPL side Arsenal at M&T Bank Stadium. Everton, also known as the "Toffees," came up on the losing side of this match 0-2. Now they'll look to bounce back against MN United FC in Minnesota at Allianz Field. Who are managed by former Toffee Adrian Heath. Heath played for Everton for six years. During which he won two First Division titles and an FA Cup. The way Heath has his MN United FC club playing at such an elite level this month it may or may not be so easily achieved. United Fc is coming into this home-friendly match flying high, carrying a five-game unbeaten streak. This figures to be a really good match-up. MN United FC has two players who have been voted into this year's MLS All-Star game. They are Goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, who stands 6'3" tall. So far this year, he has started 19 games. He has only given up 23 goals. His 67 saves are 19 more than his previous season's high mark of 48. He has four clean sheets, and his save percent is 74.4, which is his second-highest season mark. He is clearly improving his game and making a name for himself as one of the league's top Goalkeepers. The other who plays on the offensive side of the ball is Emanuel Reynoso. The Midfielder is also enjoying what may be his breakout year. After achieving his third brace in the last five games, he has scored nine times on the year. Good for three more than his total for last season. Reynoso is the star of this Loons team, but this year he might just be making a case for league MVP. United FC is playing some of its best soccer right now. They also will benefit from being in front of their home crowd. Also, this will be the first time these two clubs have faced one another. This should mean one thing; this match should be full of action. Everton will be looking to build some momentum heading into their new season. For MN United FC, it's a chance to show they can run with the big teams from the UK. Remember, as always, scarves up, Minnesota! Read the full article
3x Triple Trifecta For the Suddenly Soaring Loons
By Steve Rogers The Minnesota United FC have now run their winning ways to three in a row. After defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 on Friday in Vancouver. This was a different game compared to their last two. In the first two games, they were able to jump out to early leads and hold off the opposition for the victory. However, in this game, both teams gave each other all they could handle—ending the first half in a scoreless tie. This time Vancouver got the game's first goal. So the Loons had to play from behind for the first time since June 25. It didn't take long as five minutes later, the Loons scored the equalizer on a great shot by Kemar Lawrence. His first goal as a Loon. It remained tied until the 84 minute. When Luis Amarilla fired an absolute laser off his left foot into the left side of the net for a top ten worthy highlight goal, this was the striker's fifth goal of the season and good for the game-winner. Not done there, four minutes later, after a booming kick from goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair Franco Fragapane gathered the ball, faked Cody Cooper out of his cleats, and buried the ball into the top right corner of the net to seal the win for the Loons. They say good things come in threes. Well, if you asked United FC, they would have to agree. Three games with three goals and all three are wins, which is three points each. Nine points over the last three games skyrockets' their point total to 27. Vaulting them from 12th to sixth in the western conference. Firmly in the playoff conversation now. Currently tying them with the L.A. Galaxy. Just two goals separate the two clubs in the goal differential giving the slight edge to L.A. fourth-place FC Dallas has just 28 points. The United FC have won two of these last three games on the road. Their lone home game during this run was against Real Salt Lake, who is in third place in the western conference with 30 points. Should the Loons keep this winning streak going, they will tie RSL for third place. So, isn't it nice "Minnesota nice." to be home for the next two matches? It might be when you factor in the next two opponents coming to town. On Wednesday, July 13th, the Loons face off against Sporting Kansas City. Who is tied for last place in the west. MN United FC has 26 total goals, and SKC has only 16. Good for a 10-goal heads-up differential. Also working in the United FC's favor is their goals against, which is 24. On the other side, SKC has 33 goals against. The goal difference for the United FC is plus two. In contrast, the SKC has a negative 17. United FC has 13 assists, and SKC has eight. Every match matters and no match is a gimme. On paper, though, this is about as close as it comes. Win or lose, the week will not be over yet, as DC United comes to town on Saturday, July 17th. DC United comes into play in a tie for last place with Chicago Fire FC in the Eastern Conference. After their seven, nothing shut out shellacking. They need to regroup. This feels like an excellent opportunity for the Loons to put together a strong stretch of soccer. If the MN United FC can continue to ride this momentum of a three-game winning streak into a two-game home stand, they could be winners of five straight, adding six more points in the standings. That would put MN United FC in the top three in the western conference. The Loons are flying up the rankings leaving other teams feeling the Loon's colors black and blue. Scarves up, Minnesota! Rising Rapidly MN United FC Riding on Reynoso
By Steve Rogers The Minnesota United FC squad has put together back-to-back wins against two of the conference's top teams. Last Wednesday, the Loons went out to L.A. to face the Galaxy. Coming into that contest, they were sitting in 12th place in the west. Mn had just ten shots, and six of those were on target. Three of the six on-target shots made it to the back of the net. Good for 50% accuracy. On the flip side, the Galaxy had 16 shots, but only seven were on target. With them finding the back of the net only twice, their accuracy was much lower at 28.5%. Emmanuel Reynoso got the scoring started early on, ripping one by the goalkeeper in the ninth minute. Not long after, during the 24th minute, Kevin Cabral of the Galaxy received a red card. Precisely 12 minutes later, Franco Fragapane took the pass from Kamar Lawrence and put it in the net. A whopping seven minutes later and moments before halftime Reynoso strikes again for his second goal of the first half and gives the Loons a three-nill lead. Bongokule Hlongwane had an assist on the play. In the second half, the Galaxy tried to mount a comeback, scoring on a penalty kick was Marco Delgado in the 60th minute. Then they scored again three minutes into the extra time on a goal by Dejan Joveljic. MN United FC was able to hang on and pick up a huge road win and major confidence booster against the Galaxy, who are in third place in the western conference. That win moved the MN United FC into 10th place in the western conference. They then returned home to take on the Real Salt Lake on Sunday. RSL is in fourth place in the western conference. The Loons led both in shots with 18 and in shots on target with seven. RSL had 12 shots, four on target. But for the second game in a row, the Loons were behind in time of possession 55% to 45%. Once again, Reynoso kicks off the scoring. Ironically at exactly the ninth minute again. Three minutes in the extra time before the half, Reynoso earned a penalty kick, which he missed, but the rebound came right back to his left foot, and he buried it for his second goal of the half for the second straight game, which gave the Loons a two nothing lead at the half. In the 61 minute, Reynoso nailed a perfect cross-field pass to a streaking Luis Amarilla, who was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, juked, and hit a beautiful chip over the goalie's shoulder into the net for another goal. Extending the Loons lead to three. RSL was down, but they put on a surge late that had the home crowd concerned. RSL got their first at the 71-minute by Jefferson Savarino. Five minutes later, Savarino set up Anderson Julio for a goal. MN United FC managed to fend off the offensive wave and give the home crowd a reason to sing, with a 3-2 victory. As tradition dictates singing, they did serenading the team with "Wonderwall." Grabbing a much-needed three points jumped them to eighth place in the western conference. Putting them neck and neck with the Vancouver Whitecaps, who are in ninth based on goal differential. What a coincidence the Loons will be headed to Vancouver to face off on Friday. All-time these two teams are in a dead heat 3-3-3. Coming into this match, the two have identical season records of 7-8-3. Not to be taken lightly, The Whitecaps, in their most recent match on Saturday, beat LAFC, the number one club in the West. Can the Loons keep riding this run to three in a row? The Latest Look at Minnesota United FC aka The Loons
By: Steve Rogers The Minnesota United FC, aka the “Loons,” were founded on March 25th, 2015. Bill McGuire owns them. It took two years of construction, but in 2019 they had a home stadium named Allianz Field. It holds 19,400 spectators in the heart of St. Paul / Minneapolis, aka the Twin Cities metro area. They are giving the Minnesota fan base a professional team to cheer for in the fasted growing sport in the country. Their colors are Grey, Sky Blue, and Black. The emblem or crest/shield has a fantastic back story as well. The six-pointed star stands for the Star of the North. The Loon is Minnesota’s State Bird. Also, it has eleven feathers, one for each player on the field. The Badge the Grey color represents the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota. The Stripe is the Mississippi River, which unites the crest as the blue angled stripe. The crest’s two sides represent the Twin Cities, Minneapolis, and St. Paul. Their home jerseys are grey, with three sky blue stripes on the right shoulder, three black feathers across the front, and white stripe numbers on the back. As he got things started with the opening goal. Reynoso wasn’t done there as he hit the game-winner as well. With a pair of goals, he was the player of the game. Fullback Kamar Lawrence scored the other goal in between Reynoso’s couple. Next for the MN United FC 6-3-8 is a home game on Sunday 7/3 against Real Salt Lake 8-5-4. Currently, the Loons are in 10th, and RSL is 3rd. It sounds like an easy win for Salt Lake, but not so fast. Over the last five meetings between these clubs, each has one win. The other three games have ended in draws. Look for this to also be a close battle. This is still a young franchise, and their record doesn’t reflect how good and exciting the level of play has been. They’re in lots of 1 goal games. They are always close, highly competitive, and extremely entertaining. The advanced stats show they play in close games 96% of the time. If you’re a local sports fan or visiting and looking for a new social experience, you owe it to yourself to give the MN United FC Loons at Allianz Field a try. Scarves up, Minnesota!
