@jungjoonjiyong replied to your post “It was Kim HyunKi's birthday the other day. I'm glad he still is on...”
By the way, I don't know if you remember my other reply, but Gag Concert suddenly got way better! I love that new skit about North Korea, the new debate skit, ... They are really going strong on the political jokes, aren't they?
I would say the North Korean one (called ‘Confusing News’) is less politically focused than the other skits - there is 1 more coming up, hold on tight!
I think it’s a good chance for GagCon seeing that there is a lot going on in politics now.
hi i was wondering if you know what minsang debate is about? i dont really understant it T_T
Sure thing! Check this out if you don’t get it too :)
So um, an overview would be that Yoo Min Sang is the main character (the name is Minsang Debate too…). And Yoo Min Sang and Kim Dae Sung think they’re going to ask them questions that are usually asked to celebrities. That’s not the case… that’s why they’re so clueless.
IRL, because idols, comedians, celebrities are public figures who can influence people, they cannot openly tell people their political views. This is why they keep saying “stop asking me that”.
So… it starts off with Park Young Jin as the host and judge of the debate. He said that they were going to discuss about “sexy guys that can cook”. Then bla bla Yoo Min Sang points out that the BGM sounds like the news. Exactly, it’s a serious thing to talk about politics so… haha…
Park Young Jin explains the topic. *Creak creak* Notice how everyone’s just looking at him? Feels pressurising…
Park Young Jin asks for his opinion about free meals. If he provides a stand, it probably says something about his political opinion. And then Park Young Jin makes it like Yoo Min Sang’s the bad guy by adding on that his stand does not represent the stand of their show.
Next, in the debate between Yoo Min Sang and Kim Dae Sung, none of them want to start because they don’t know what to use to attack each other and probably (just a thought) they don’t want to be seen as hostile.
So when Kim Dae Sung pokes him and Yoo Min Sang was like “Don’t!!”, Park Young Jin comes to ridiculously conclude that Yoo Min Sang established a stand about the previous matter (about free school meals). Then he mentioned “Hong Jun Pyo” (governor) and Park Young Jin got all acted up and accused him of saying the governor did something wrong, but Yoo Min Sang didn’t say that.
This part is where you need to listen to what they’re saying. Kim Dae Sung says “This is an important problem” (중요한 문제 있는데 joong-yo-han mun-je itt-neun-de) then Park Young Jin just ridiculously assumed he mentioned Moon Jae In, a political figure. Notice how it sounds similar to what I bolded in the previous sentence.
Then Park Young Jin proceeds to assume that Kim Dae Sung said that Moon Jae In is the problem. And he says that the opinions of the two comedians have nothing to do with GC PD Jo Jun Hee, making them sound like bad people somehow.
So now Kim Nina stands to ask him questions.
She starts by mentioning that she likes MYMO, then mentioned she heard that Yoo Min Sang still doesn’t have a girlfriend and wants to ask him something. Here, you’d expect she keep asking him about women etc. but she turns to say “What type of governor do you like?”.
Here, the grammar of Korean sentences is key. To literally translate what she said: “The style you like… of governors is what?” Notice how she paused? It gives a better effect because you’d expect her to ask “What type of girls do you like?”.
So he rages and says “how can there be a question like this” and Park Young Jin yet again assumes that he doesn’t like any of the governors.
He proceeds to bring out a screencap of an article regarding Suzy and Lee Min Ho’s dating news. It just says “Lee Min Ho, Suzy “We’re dating”” on it. So everyone will think that they’re going to talk about that. But he was like no and chooses to talk about the fine print: Lee Myung Bak.
This part is pretty much shooting the government for releasing such celebrity scandals to cover up political scandals. It’s been the case recently…
So Yoo Min Sang gets pissed and was like “talk about the previous topic” and Park Young Jin chooses to go back to the free school meals thing. So he gets frustrated and was like “no, the top one” and Park Young Jin went like “by top, did you mean the Blue House?”.
The Blue House is pretty much the residence and office of the president. That’s why it’s “the top”. And the audience gets so shocked lmao.
Then Kim Jang Gun proceeds to be brave af and talked but he “self-censored” his opinion hahaha. And Park Young Jin accepted it… So Yoo Min Sang gets frustrated and said “I’m not doing this anymore” but Park Young Jin twists it into “not being a comedian anymore” then adding in “going into politics”.
Hope you get everything… after I typed all of these :p
