" hey, sunshine" riki calls out, making you chuckle and greet back a hello. his voice sounds a little tired, maybe he was sleepy from studying and all the practice he had.
" why did you call? is there anything up?" you ask, laying on your back and stared at the ceiling. riki snickers, making you raise your eyebrows even if you knew he couldn't see you.
" wow─ do i only call you when i need something? you're tainting my reputation!" he jokingly complains at the other line, making you laugh at him. your boyfriend was fun to be with, alright. he was always outgoing, always so loving. and you always loved to return the favour.
" i didn't say anything, baby. so, what's up? for real this time" you ask and silence falls by riki's line, making you a little concerned. after a solid six seconds, you hear a little shuffling and riki stuttering words you can't somehow comprehend.
" i just miss you, that's all" he replies, even stuttering out such a simple sentence. he was relieved you couldn't see him right now or you'd see the blush on the apple of his cheeks.
you lightly chuckle at this, a blush also on your cheeks as you just stay silent before breaking into laughs again. riki never fails to make you feel giddy, as if you both had just started dating. it was stupid, it was cheesy ─ but your love for each other would always be deemed genuine.
" i miss you too, riki, but you have to go to sleep already. don't you have practice tomorrow?" you ask, and you hear him groaning from the other line, making you break out into a smile and a teasing chuckle.

HYUNWOO WAS A PAIN IN THE ASS. it could be a lie or a truth ─ that depends on his mood as your roommate. one second he’s cleaning everything and in the next second, he’s wrecking havoc around your shared place, infuriating you as if you were his mother.
number one reason. he is always in the mood to play ─ always and always.
“ let’s play!” hyunwoo hollers excitedly, pulling you away from your study table and into the living room without even asking if you were doing something important or what. before you could open your mouth to protest, the tall boy thrusts his game console at you and sat down close beside you.
“ i don’t think i can play, woo. i have a research to pass today and ─ “
“ don’t worry about that, hm? i haven’t even started mine yet! we can fail together!” he says, winking at you and starting the game before scooting closer to you excitedly. you scoff at him, elbowing his side and making him yelp in pain ─ toppling dramatically as if he was a defeated hero in an action movie.

in the end, you had lost to him several times but at least you were laughing your ass off instead of crying over your research paper. what’s the fun in making it, right?

he did indeed clean the place. you chuckle secretly, careful not to break that proud smile on his face. although there were still some residue here and there and a broken mop sticking out in the kitchen, at least he took the initiative to clean.

“ you alright?” he asks, face nearing yours. trying your best to dodge his stares, you curse at him internally. he wasn’t helping at all and you wanted him to go out already and leave you in peace.
“ i am. you should go wherever you’re going. i have to do something” you reason out, shooing the boy away. he scoff sadly, pouting at you rushing him out but still went out nonetheless. once you hear the door shut, you cup your face with your own hands, taking a deep inhale to calm yourself down.

your unexplained feelings went on for a few weeks. now, you’re trying to suppress them ─ trying to avoid hyunwoo even if every corner of the house, you could see him. sharing one roof with him was more difficult now ─ you just want to disappear when he suddenly approaches you.
“ oh my god!” not now, though. not when everything was dark ─ an unannounced blackout making you walk around to find a candle or a flashlight to help you. finding nothing, you start to panic. the dark was scary ─ it was one of your fears and dealing with it alone is scaring you to death.
curling up into a ball, you try to regulate your breathing and hold in your tears. you desperately pray the lights will come back on in a few seconds but unfortunately, you fail, and it makes you ten times more scared than ever.
“ hey, are you here? idiot, where are you?” hyunwoo’s voice echoes suddenly, calling out your name. you lift your head, calling him too and you hear rushed footsteps towards you ─ there hyunwoo stood in front of you with a small flashlight in hand and hair in a mess.
“ you’re here” mumbling quietly, you run towards hyunwoo and wrap your arms around him, crying onto his shoulder. stumbling a little, the boy quickly wraps his arms around you too and rub little circles on your back. hyunwoo knows how scared you are of the dark and when he realized a blackout occurred, he scrambled to find light for the both of you.
though all he had was a flashlight the size of his palm, at least you weren’t scared anymore ─ and that was all he wanted to see.
that night, hyunwoo didn’t know what got into him but when you broke the hug, he realized he wanted to save you from the dark forever.
“ did the heater break down?”
“ i think the heater broke”
you both laugh at that. the room had became freezing cold now that you could compare it to a freezer. hyunwoo gets out of his bed and pushed you to the side, laying beside you.

“ the heater broke, my love. i don’t want the both of us to freeze” he shortly explains, throwing the blanket over the both of you. you scoff at his words, rolling your eyes and just giving in to whatever he was doing.

once he came home, you’re tired and he was too. you wanted to reach out to him and talk to him yet he would either sleep right away or come home very very late. it was almost an unbreakable cycle and you were tired getting stuck in the same cycle over and over.
so when minwoo came to you and told you he was tired, you couldn’t comprehend what he meant by the word. was he tired from practice? you could always massage his tense shoulders, or was he tired of your relationship? because you were too.

if slow was a person, it would be hyunwoo. your feelings for him was known for everybody yet to him, you were just being his bestfriend. all your kind gestures, all your signs, all your gifts ─ you knew you had no hope when hyunwoo would just look at you with a smile, no sign of confusion or realization about the gift being seen in his features.
“ hyunwoo, i have feelings for you. i don’t know if you’re just playing dumb but i really like you, hyunwoo”
you wished you didn’t confess to him as a blank stare from him was all you got, his mouth agape in confusion. you knew he was going to reject you straight up so instead of accepting it, you ran away like the coward you are.
well, that was a year ago, and here hyunwoo was standing ─ in the place where you confessed to him. your disappearance only had made him realize his feelings, desperately trying to contact you and know where you were or were you still loving him like how you used to.

everyone who knew your situation with yejun warned you about this. they have told you about how long distance relationship never worked out no matter how much lovers try ─ and you wished you should’ve listened while it wasn’t too late.
different schedules, different timezones, different places ─ everything seemed like an obstacle to have a ten minute talk with your boyfriend. even just a simple i love you text was hard. you both were flooded with tasks, eyes training towards your conversation yet still hard to type in three words due to the chokehold of your schedules.

realizing the warnings was too late for you as you ended the call with yejun, throwing your head back as tears spilled and his number blocked in your contacts.

and you knew this fight would be the hardest. maybe it was the stress, maybe it was him falling out of love, maybe you weren’t interested in your relationship with him ─ the misunderstandings and arguments were getting frequent already.
you knew you should’ve listened to his point and yewang should’ve listened to yours but frustration and anger had gotten the best of you both, slipping out careless words you knew you would never tell him if you both weren’t drunk in anger.

as the elders would say ─ you both are too young for love, jaeho would always look at you with a slight frown. you would shoot him a reassuring smile, gently squeezing his hand as comfort. you hated that sentence so much ─ as if they were making age a crime when you love someone. if only you could cover his ears from the harsh words the elders would say, you would’ve done that.
but young love was genuine love. being young and in love meant no malice, no ill intentions, and no motives. love is free and love is genuine ─ no matter what anyone would say.
jaeho would always assure you he loved you so much with silly ways like sending cute, affectionate stickers through text or through random heart memes he’d find in the internet. you loved him for his little actions of affection yet somehow, letting go was your end. some people were to meet to last a lifetime while others were meant to meet to give them lessons for their future.
and although you both were the second option, you knew you had loved him no matter how young you are.

NOVEMBER 11 = PEPERO DAY.
everyone dreaded and loved this day as you observed throughout the years of school. boys from higher and lower levels were holding boxes of the said snack, rocking their heels back and forth as they make a little speech for the person they wanted to confess to. girls were also happily confessing to their crushes too. some were shy and some were confident. it was fun looking at them.
you didn't show it but you wanted someone to give you pepero too. no, not just some random person but the person you like─ the person you have feelings for. and that someone is─
" why are you looking all single there? i thought today was pepero day?" an arm wrapped around your shoulder as the bubbly voice of your bestfriend was made known, the tall boy smiling at you.
" shut up. you don't have to rub how single i am into my face, woo" you say, shoving him away from you. he laughs as he flinches from your hands, apologizing lightheartedly and slung his arm around your shoulder again. the close approximity makes your cheeks burn and your heartbeat accelerate, making you discretely shy away.
kim hyunwoo─ that little ( giant ) shit. as much as he ticked you off at times, you cherished him so much. he was your bestfriend and of course, the boy you liked. cliché, right? fate had to assign you into this mess and you knew it wouldn't end well.
trailing your eyes towards hyunwoo, you realize he was holding a little box of pepero. the box was decorated, though clumsily, which you're sure he decorated last night─ and pepero boxes in it. you sigh inwardly, knowing he would confess to the person he liked. no matter what─ no matter how much you'd assume, no matter what you'd think, he'd have feelings for someone else.
it's alright, of course, because as long as hyunwoo was happy, you were too.
" who's the unlucky person you're giving your worn-out box to?" you ask and the boy beside you gasps at your insult, clutching his chest as he feigned fake disgrace. you snicker at him as he argues about how much effort he made over the box and how he spent his pocket money of today for all the materials and the pepero boxes.
" and did you know? the saleslady didn't want to give me this ribbon stickers! i had to force her to give it to me because i'm sure the person i'd give this to would love it!" he continued to ramble on as you arrived in front of your classroom, immediately sitting down on your seat with of course, hyunwoo.
you watch him excitedly putting down the box in front of him, smiling to himself as he fixed some decorations on the side. keum donghyun, who was in front of him, teased the boy beside you for being so whipped.
" who are you giving that to? seems like you made so much effort for that, huh?"
" of course! this is kim hyunwoo we're talking about!"
snickering to yourself, you watch your bestfriend brag about whatever he made last night to donghyun. the person he'd give that to would be so lucky, you thought as you stare at hyunwoo with a smile on your face.
" at the end of classes, i'll be confessing already!"
" what if your pepero gets crushed? pepero crumbs?"
" shut up, yejun!"
and dismissal came pretty quickly. watching hyunwoo excitedly dash out of the classroom without saying goodbye to you made you a little sad but you knew today was a special day for him. you were just his bestfriend and nothing else─ so why would you interfere over a matter you aren't even part of?
" hey, you want a pack of pepero? i bought too much and the person i confessed to doesn't like sweets" minwoo asks kindly, pointing at his now significant other and sliding you a pack of pepero. you smile, thanking him as you exit the room. staring at the pack of pepero, you smile contentedly as you walked towards you and hyunwoo's favorite place─ the bench by the school's garden.
spotting no one but you, you sighed and sat down and placing your bag beside you. you wanted to ask hyunwoo how his confession was and if he had gotten himself someone a date but you somehow figured your should leave him alone right now, thinking he's very much happy with the person he gave his pepero to.
because who would even reject hyunwoo? you must be stupid if you do! ( not kidding )
and before you could open the pepero minwoo gave you, a box falls onto your lap─ making you yelp and the pepero pack flies away. you were about to complain at the person throwing a random box at you when you catch a glimpse at the ribbon stickers decorared on the box.
" don't eat pepero packs of someone who didn't even confess to you, stupid" the familiar voice makes you freeze, holding hyunwoo's box in your hands as you dared yourself to look up─ and speak of the devil, he stood in front of you with a lopsided smile tugged on his face.
" don't throw your peperos, idiot! you can't give this to your crush if it's all damaged" you scold, clicking your tongue as you set the box down beside you carefully. thankfully, the box was still alright and you caught it well but hyunwoo just chuckled.
" that's right─ always handle packages with care. give me that and i'll confess to the person i like already" he says grumpily, taking the box and held it tight in his hands. you were about to shoo him away when he stood in front of you, looking down at you with a smile on his face.
" what do you want now─"
" happy pepero day" hyunwoo says quietly, almost a whisper, as he extends his hands to give you the box. your eyes widen at him, almost as if you were frozen in your spot. it wasn't that you didn't like it─ you loved it, but the boy you liked confessing to you? this must've been a dream you wouldn't and couldn't wake up to unless your alarm blares through your eyes.
" accept it, please! i'm so embarrassed now!" hyunwoo's voice snaps you back to reality, the boy still extending his arms out and his face turned to the side. a brush of pink adorned his cheeks as he rocked his feet back and forth.
" happy pepero day to you too, hyunwoo"
" and i like you, of course. if you didn't know what all this means" he continues, avoiding eye contact and all. you scoff at him, hitting his arm and pulling him close to you to engulf him into a hug.
" of course─ i like you too, hyunwoo" you whisper, making him let out a little chuckle as he wrap his arms around your frame and leaning his head against yours.
somehow, pepero day wasn't so bad this year around, right?

read the poster hung on the wall outside the broadcasting room. jungwon and the other members of the council cheered, admiring their hardwork for the making of the poster and of course, their efforts done to make this event successful.
things left unsaid is an event held annually by the school, aiming for students to have fun anonymously (or not, depends on you) and add a twist in confessing their feelings for a certain someone they like or even love, rant about their workload or their one-sided crush, submit their thoughts about topics, or request a song ─ anything is welcome! (some even give feedbacks about teachers ─ math teacher always get the worse feedbacks)
then there comes in the dj. the dj is the one to read out to the school the entries of numerous students ─ and even make his own. just like a radio station, they broadcast the entries and the speakers around the school blares their voice for everyone to hear.
jungwon was the dj for this year’s event. honestly, he didn’t want to be the dj at all. he felt like he wasn’t entertaining enough nor was his voice soothing to listen to yet in the game of rock, paper, scissors did he lose against the other members.
“ goodluck, won! we’ll be cheering for you tomorrow and bring you snacks” sunoo bids as you and the other members exit the school. it was dark outside already as the whole council decided to arrange everything for tomorrow’s first broadcast.
“ yeah, i know you’re not gonna let us down, jungwon” you say, flashing him a smile. the others join in agreeing and hums, making jungwon chuckle shyly as a brush of pink litter his cheeks.
“ thanks. i’ll do my best for the sake of our reputation” jungwon says as he bids the others goodbye, leaving the both of you outside the school’s gate. it was fortunate enough you and jungwon went on the same direction or it would be dangerous for you to walk alone at night without anyone.
it wasn’t that you and jungwon were really close friends. you could say you were friends since you both were working in broadcasting for two years so casually, jungwon would know you, and you would know him.
“ no pressure, won. you won for a reason” you tease, nudging him by the elbow and he jokingly shows a face of dismay. the both of you chuckle and a comfortable silence falls between you both as you waited for the bus.
“ dj one in the house!” riki hollers loudly through the corridors, making you turn your head towards the direction of his voice. there the tall boy was, walking towards the broadcasting room with his arm slung on jungwon’s shoulder. you greet them both a good morning to where riki replies with a ‘yo!’ and jungwon waving at you and muttering a little greeting too.
“ here, dj one. these are some snacks for your one hour shift today and some entries accumulated” you say, handing a paper bag and an ipad. riki was gone already, probably going somewhere to play, making you snicker and mumble an ‘aye, they left me alone to instruct’ under your breath.
“ oh, i’m okay already. i’ll get a hang of this” jungwon quickly says in the middle of you fiddling through the laptop and adjusting the settings. you figured he must’ve felt guilty but you shake your head and flash him a reassuring smile.
“ i was just joking, won! don’t sweat about it. anyways, it’s almost 9.30 so i’ll get going. goodluck for your first day, dj one! i’ll be back later to accompany you” you cheer, pumping you fists in the air before picking up your bag. jungwon looks up at you, smiling softly and nodding his head.
“ thank you!”
“ hey, dj one! you’re early today” you greet the boy, peeking your head through the door of the broadcasting room. he turns towards you, nodding his head and setting the headphones down.
a week in and jungwon was doing great as a dj for the event. the amount of positive feedbacks for dj one was relieving, making you proud for the said boy for doing such an excellent job despite him not aiming for the position.
“ i woke up early today so i thought i should set things up”
“ hey, that’s my job”
he laughs, patting the chair beside him, gesturing for you to sit beside him. in between the days you teamed up with jungwon, you both had gotten pretty close quickly. what can you say, though, jungwon was a fun person to be with.
“ want to stay here for today’s broadcast?” jungwon offers out of the blue, making you turn your head towards him, your eyes peering against his. he shrugs his shoulders at the lack of reply after a few seconds, scrolling through some entries.
“ sure, dj one. show me what you got” you challenge, making jungwon smirk and smugly brushed his school blazer before putting on headphones and starting the broadcast.
watching jungwon for things left unsaid was far better than just listening to him in your classroom or at the cafeteria. you would glance at him from time to time, maybe to stop and stare for a few seconds, before turning back to the ipad placed in front of you two. somehow, you loved jungwon’s company more than anyone else’s this past few weeks.
and jungwon knew you your little glances and stares. it made him nervous ─ you make him nervous, no matter what. not just because of his feelings but also because he didn’t want to let you down.
“ dj one, i have feelings for someone. he’s my friend for long already and i want to confess to him but i’m scared he’ll reject me. i know being a coward wouldn’t take you anywhere but i don’t want him to slip away from me, dj one. this entry is from student ri” jungwon reads an entry out loud and you were so sure the students were all cooing at such confession, even you did.
“ love is about taking risks, you know? how’d you know if he does like you or he doesn’t if you don’t find out yourself? getting rejected is fine, everyone. if you do get rejected, there is another person for you ─ and that person will be worth the wait, that person will make you feel more than you do now.”
“ so if any of you have feelings for someone, confess now. let’s not waste this chance and whether the outcome is good or bad, we should face it. love is ‘bout everything and love is about grabbing the chances to make someone yours” jungwon’s stare pierced through your own, his gaze deep and full of feelings you couldn’t decipher ─ your heartbeat pounds against your ears, deafening you, making you fear jungwon would hear it too.
is this what they call ‘catching feelings’?
yes, it was, and you never wanted to disappear faster than that day.
it had been two weeks already, signifying the end of things left unsaid event. today was the last day, making you a little sad. this event made you the happiest you’ve ever been throughout the school year, making you realize things and find new friends.
and especially your crush, jungwon.
it was hard to supress your feelings, especially when you see jungwon almost everyday for the event. and, also because he was such a sweetheart. you knew he was out of reach ─ jungwon was one of the well-known students. he was smart, he knows taekwondo, and he was pretty. it wouldn’t be a surprise if everyone had a little crush on him.
“ hey, dj one” you greet as the boy enters the broadcasting room. he smiles softly, waving at you before taking a seat on his place. you hand him the ipad, flinching a little when your hands brush against each other’s.
“ today’s the last day for things left unsaid and even if i said i didn’t want the position, i enjoyed it” jungwon suddenly says, making you turn your head towards him. jungwon held that smile of his, dimples showing and his eyes littered star-like glitter on them.
“ you did so well for the event, though. without you, this would be a flop”
“ i did well because of you, okay? without you, i wouldn’t know what to do” he says before reaching out to adjust his headphones and reading through the entries as you just stood there, cheeks a brush of pink and your lips pursed together.
as jungwon reads the last entry before closing, everybody seems to be listening to him speak. some students were just inside their classrooms while some went outside, leaning against the railings outside or either just walking around. you were one of them, letting the cool air kiss your face as you listened to dj one.
“ being this year’s things left unsaid’s dj is a one of a kind experience. as the dj who reads through entries, i had learn different things and i hope everyone had at least learned one thing because of this. i would be so happy if something’s had changed because of the lessons you had learned from this event” jungwon says over the mic, sighing happily with a tinge of sadness. truly, he enjoyed being the dj. without your and the members’ help, he wouldn’t be able to do well.
“ and for my closing, i’ll be passing my own entry for things left unsaid” he says, and everybody’s interest spiked up, wondering what jungwon has to say. some had bet he’d say some inspirational quote or saying, riki said he’s going to make a diss rap for their general biology teacher, and some said he’s going to confess to someone.
“ reading love confessions and entries about those were so fun to see. everyday, i would read alot of them and today, i will be confessing mine to the person i admired for long”
you raise your eyebrows, patiently waiting for the lucky person he’s going to confess to. you figured maybe he’d confess to someone in his class, or maybe a friend of his ─ and you had to move on from your feelings soon if he confesses today.
“ hi,” jungwon calls out, followed by your name, making everyone gasp and the people around you turn to your form. somehow, you still listen to jungwon’s words even if riki was there to scream in your ear about jungwon’s feelings for you.
“ i knew it! jungwon loverboy like you ─ “
“ before we got close, you were only a person i admired ─ nothing more and nothing less. i figured i shouldn’t like you without even knowing you and meeting you now for things left unsaid made me feel so happy i get a chance to talk to you,”
“ we became close pretty quickly, right? you were there to cheer for me during the first day and because of that, my nervousness had faded away. you’re one of a kind, you know? that’s why i like you and that’s why i want to court you. no matter how long it takes, i’ll be patiently waiting for an answer. even if you reject me right now, it’s fine because that’s how it works. i like you, and that’s that. i hope you also feel the same way and i promise, i’ll always be here for you too”
for the first time in your life, you had never ran that fast to the broadcasting room.
