Congratulations to Minwoo Lee for a successful defence! Special thanks to his external examiner, Yam Lau. Minwoo’s thesis exhibition, Moving Spotlight is on view at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre in Guelph until April 30.
Studio Visit with Minwoo Lee
Q: Tell us about yourself.
A: I'm in my last semester of the MFA program. I work with film, sound, and installation that investigates the role of an apparatus in relation to the image. I am currently exploring the relationship between the subject, the object, and the observer, taking a closer examination on the role of the gaze.
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: I'm working on a film about a black-box, playing with material film, camera, and the darkroom as the subject in question. And of course, my thesis paper and the exhibition.
Q: What are you most excited about for the 2015 Open Studios/Shenkman Lecture?
A: Open Studios and Shenkman Lecture are the gems of this program. You get to meet new people, talk about your work, and of course Michael Snow this year.

NO PRRESSURRRE is a group exhibition that invites local artists to respond to Capacity 3’s prized artifact. At least a century old, the antique water motor is a permanent fixture within the confines of the gallery space. NO PRRESSURRRE adopts the aesthetic and historical language from the artifact using it as a departing point to make work. The exhibition aims to delineate the obvious and analyze the literalness of the thing while excavating its potential narratives.
I'm so excited for their comeback!!!
Although I won't be able to make it to their annual concerts, which are held on the 21st and 22nd of March, I will be streaming their album 24/7.
