Chapter 6
The next day, you don’t speak a word of it.
You try your best to push it to the very back of your mind but it seems to push back, refusing to be buried or forgotten, stubborn like the one you shared the memory with.
You weren’t surprised when Jeonghan almost immediately left the apartment this morning. You’d want to run away too after what happened.
But more than whatever that was, you’re still trying to figure out why he’s been out of whack recently. You're definitely worried, there's no doubt about it. But can this possibly be an excuse too?
Is this your way of distracting yourself from yesterday? Busying yourself with other thoughts?
Yes.
Quite frankly, yes.
So even if Hao is no expert in hybrids, you invite him over to help you out. He had the gall to even decline since he likes spending his days off having tea and meditating with Chan.
But after telling him that he’s part of the reason for your baffling predicament (had he not brought Jeonghan into your life), he came not long after his phone call with you.
Hao is sitting on your computer chair looking down at you while you lie on your bed, hands clasped over your belly, eyes focused up on the ceiling. “He’s a bit off lately, you say? Can you elaborate on that?” he asks, sounding a lot like your therapist.
You all but press your lips into a thin line. He waits patiently for your reply, staring at your lying figure from the rim of his cup, the steam from the hot tea slowly fogging up his fake glasses.
Thoughts finally gathered, you heave a deep sigh and begin telling him everything that’s happened in the past couple of days.
Well… maybe not everything. Especially not about yesterday.
Minghao hums, eyes slightly squinting. “That is odd,” he simply says and goes on to set his cup on his lap, tapping at the handle in thought. “Doesn’t seem like Jeonghan at all…” he mumbles, more to himself than anyone, “Chan doesn’t usually behave like th-- Hold on.”
You sit up so fast you almost feel dizzy but you get over it fast. You turn to him with an expectant and hopeful look. Is this it? Does Hao actually have the answer?
“Maybe he’s in heat?”
And suddenly, the air around you is pierced with a long, awkward pause.
“In what?”
“In heat. You know like…” your best friend trails off when he sees your brows pinching together in confusion. Hao blinks a couple of times, “Did… I not tell you about that?”
“About what? What do you mean he might be in heat? What even is that?”
He purses his lips and his brows gradually furrow in thought. How should he explain this?
“Uhh… well,” he starts, rubbing the back of his neck, “To simply put it, he’s horny.”
“Wh-What?!” you sputter and he just nods. “Yup, it’s that time of the year, I guess? Where he wants to mate and stuff.”
You’re utterly dumbfounded. How could he miss telling you this information? If anything, that should’ve been the first thing he mentioned when you had a long discussion about how to take care of a hybrid months ago!
“I’m-- But-- Y-You said Chan doesn’t behave like this? Maybe i-it’s not that…” You shake your head in denial and chuckle awkwardly, only for Hao to shut you down and say, “I have Chan on suppressants so maybe that’s why he’s not acting up.”
It boggles your mind how he’s so calm talking about something like this, nonchalantly sipping his stupid tea while you’re visibly panicking.
Suppressants? What the fuck even are those? How… How are you going to deal with this?
Hao laughs. Your best friend who forgot to tell you one of the key points of taking care of a hybrid is laughing at you, “Calm down, will you? Jeez, you should really start meditating with me–”
“Xu Minghao!”
“Alright, alright! Don’t worry too much, okay? I’ll walk you through the whole thing and if you have questions that I can’t answer, there's always the internet. Or you could call the shelter! They have in-house hybrid doctors."
He innocently grins at your scowling face, triggering an eye roll and a deep sigh, “Fine. So, tell me about this whole… heat thing.”
Jeonghan’s eye twitches the moment he steps inside the apartment. A wafting scent that’s unfamiliar to him invades his nostrils and suddenly, unpleasant feelings start to bubble at the pit of his stomach.
You had someone over while he was gone.
He’s trying so hard to fight his growing possessiveness, especially when you greet him so sweetly, smile so radiant and warm.
And distracting. Damn it, why do you have to be so beautiful? He almost trips making his way to you because of that smile of yours.
“What were up to today? Hungry yet?” you spit out, heart thumping faster than it should be when you barely closed all your tabs and set your laptop aside.
Jeonghan shakes his head, giving you a small smile and an even smaller pat on your head. You barely felt it but the miniscule gesture was enough to paint your cheeks red.
You clear your throat, “W-Well, it’s time for me to start on dinner anyways.” You stand up from the couch to make your way to the kitchen while Jeonghan passes you to head to his room.
“Give me a minute, I’ll help you out,” he promises, trying his best to ignore the fact that he can smell the foreign scent on you as well. But just as he takes a turn to his bedroom, he freezes.
That scent... It’s strongest coming from inside your room. His jaw clenches hard, the hand reaching for the door knob balling into a shaky fist. “Hey, did you have someone over?” he hollers before he can even stop himself.
You hum distractedly and look up to see Jeonghan marching back to you with his eyes looking sharp and unfriendly. Weird, you think to yourself as you set down the ingredients on the counter top. The only other time you saw his eyes like that was when he had that fight with Mingyu…
Is he… pissed off or something?
“Yeah…” you tentatively say, “Hao was here a while ago.”
“The fuck was he doing in your room?!”
Your body seizes at the hostility and sheer volume of his voice, eyes bulging out in utter shock. He’s never spoken to you like that before.
Did Minghao coming over make him mad?
But, why? He likes Hao!
The fire in his eyes disappears just as fast as it came and he instantly feels guilty. He drops his gaze, ears flattening against his head, “I’m… I’m sorry!”
You’ve yet to even open your mouth when Jeonghan sprints to his room and unintentionally slams the door behind him. “Shit,” he whispers to himself, “S-Sorry! I didn’t mean to slam the door!”
Embarrassed, he dives into his bed without even taking off his bag and buries his burning face deep into his pillow, “Why’d I do that? How could I raise my voice at her like that?!”
“Stupid. fucking. heat!" he punctuates every word with a hard punch into his mattress. "When will this end?” he groans.

Chapter 5
Stunned, mind whirling in absolute confusion, you stand in the middle of your kitchen just dumbly staring at the wall opposite you. You were supposed to be cooking, ingredients all laid out and ready but you haven’t touched them, nor have you really moved from your spot before Jeonghan left to go to who knows where doing who knows what.
“Wow, looks like you’re cooking a fancy meal,” he had said, walking into the kitchen to grab his water bottle from the fridge. You threw him a beaming smile, “I found this recipe online and I thought you might like it. I’m making a vegan version!” He laughs in pure fondness at the way you excitedly bounce on the balls of your feet.
But your innocent smile faltered when he took a sip of water and suddenly said, “I’d rather have you for dinner though. I bet you taste just as good or maybe even better.” You blinked at him, the devious little smirk tugging at the corner of his lip making your mind go completely blank. “H-Huh?” was your dumb reply.
Jeonghan laughed, eyes wrinkling at the corners when he grins at you. “Kidding! See you later!” Then he pulled you by the waist and ever so delicately kissed the corner of your lips. You stiffened, eyes going wide, most especially when he just turned around and left as if nothing happened.
“He didn’t… That didn’t actually happen, right?” you laugh nervously, finally coming back to your senses, “I… I must be imagining things,” you try to convince yourself, finally moving from your spot. You try to continue what you were doing earlier but you can’t deny how very distracted you are. Dropping the knife before you accidentally cut yourself, you heave a deep sigh and pinch the bridge of your nose.
“Okay, fuck. Why am I being like this? Maybe… Maybe I need to get laid or something…”
As time passes, Jeonghan gets more suggestive and flirty with you. Something you always chose to brush off just because you don’t want it to get in your head. But whether you really are in dire need of a good lay or not, the hybrid really has been acting weird these days.
First, it had been his restlessness, always going out to jog or play sports and when he’s home he surprisingly works out like crazy. Practically, he just does anything to keep himself busy and active which you didn’t think much of at first.
Then you find him clingier than he normally is, always staying so close to you whether you were cooking, doing the laundry or even when you painted. He’s suddenly always craving for some type of physical affection from you and when you don’t give it to him, he gets upset.
What makes it even weirder is that there are moments when he doesn’t go near you at all, opting to lock himself in his room, only coming out when he needs to eat or go to the bathroom. It has been either or for this couple of days and you feel completely thrown out of the loop, never knowing what his temperament would be like tomorrow or the day after that.
“Yes, sir! I’ll have it ready before your restaurant opens. Don’t worry,” you smile even if your client can’t see and nod your head enthusiastically. You’re pacing back and forth, a paintbrush in one hand while the other holds your phone to your ear.
You’re in a worn button down, paint stains creating quite a unique pattern in the otherwise boring design and some loose lounge shorts. Your hair is tied up into a messy bun, exposing your neck and pretty collar bones. The fact that you’re very obviously not wearing a bra underneath is just the cherry on top of Jeonghan’s misery.
If he’s not trying so damn hard to get himself together, he would’ve been drooling by now. You look so fuckign beautiful and sexy, and hot but also very candid and adorable. He can’t, for the love of him, take his eyes off of you. It doesn’t at all help that the buttons of your shirt are done wrongly and he’s trying not to fix it or he might actually take it off of you instead.
He feels like a fucking pervert, just seeing your exposed skin and feeling hot all over, mind racing with impure thoughts. Your voice seems far away and muffled as he fights off his thoughts and urges. He builds his legos distractedly, brows in a permanent furrow, a small shake in his hands when he puts the pieces together.
He doesn’t notice that you’ve hung up and have gone back to painting. He doesn’t notice the time tick by and he doesn’t notice that he’s building the legos all wrong. What he does notice though, is your presence drawing closer to him. He swallows hard.
“God, my back hurts,” you sigh as you sit next to him on the couch. You lay your head on his shoulder, missing the way his body momentarily stiffens at the mere contact. Jeonghan squeezes the lego piece he’s holding. “Aw, poor baby,” he coos at you, “Why don’t you lie down, I’ll massage you.”
Fuck.
What is he doing?
But it’s as if he’s moving on autopilot, his brain no longer incharge of his actions when he pushes you down. His hands are itching to feel your warm skin and like the rest of him, they act on their own when they unbutton your shirt.
You up at him in panic, “J-Jeonghan?” He mentally punches himself when he hears your shaky voice calling his name. “Sorry… I just thought it’d feel better with this off.” He has no idea how saying that would make things any better but thankfully, you buy it. Blinking your nerves away, you slowly nod and undo a few more.
Jeonghan holds his breath, hungry eyes watching your hands as they expose even more of your skin. But he doesn’t get to look much longer when you flip over and lie on your stomach. Jeonghan swallows again. He tries to snap himself out of it, settling at the back of your thighs as his hands experimentally massage your bare shoulders.
You moan at the way his fingers press down on your aching muscles, not having a single clue how much it’s affecting him, how Jeonghan is literally sweating bullets trying to fight off his urges. He clamps down hard on his bottom lip, trying to contain his whimpers, his cock already hard.
You feel the warmth radiating off of him in waves and you worry if something’s wrong. Opening your eyes and turning your head, you’re about to ask him if he feels sick but you finally notice the muffled whimpering. You faintly hear him curse under his breath and then you feel it, his dick, hot and heavy on your ass.
Then... he slowly starts moving his hips, rubbing himself against you. You gasp before you can even stop yourself and he’s off of you in mere milliseconds. “S-Sorry, I forgot I have a game with the boys today. I’m gonna go shower.” And just like that, he’s gone, leaving you completely dumbfounded, wondering if you were imagining things again.
“Jeonghan!”
You’re not the most physically coordinated or sporty but the moment you see him shoving Mingyu into the ground, you’re suddenly a track and field athlete when you run over to them. “What the fuck is your problem?!” Mingyu yells, struggling against Jihoon and Seokmin. Jeonghan sees red and scoffs dramatically, “My problem? What’s my-- What the fuck is your problem, huh? You elbowed me!”
“It was an accident! I already--”
“No, fuck you!”
You and Seungkwan can barely hold Jeonghan back. He’s somehow hell bent on landing a punch on Mingyu’s face that both of your feet slip when he pushes forward. “Jeonghan, stop it! Calm d- ow!” you fall backwards when Jeonghan all but flings you and Seungkwan away, everyone freezing when they see you hit the concrete floor.
You wince in pain as you get up and when you flip your hands over, you see your palms are all scraped up. “Shit, I’m sorry…” Jeonghan immediately snaps out of his rage and rushes over to you, brows furrowing in concern. He very carefully takes your hands and brushes off the debris stuck on your wound in complete panic, “Fuck! I’m so sorry. I didn’t-- I wasn’t--”
“No, it’s okay. It’s fine,” you mumble out calmly, giving him a reassuring smile. Seungkwan is quick to let you sit on a bench. He grabs the first aid kit he keeps in his bag and he handles your little scrapes with a very gentle hand. The bunny hybrid just stands there, feeling incredibly guilty as he watches Seungkwan tend to your wounds.
His ears are permanently glued to his head and all the others look at you with the same concern too. You’re quite amused by it actually. How can they fret over something so small? You’re not even hurt that badly. “It’s just a scrape, guys. I’ll be fine,” you chuckle as you stand up and try to reach for Jeonghan’s arm. He catches your wrist before you could touch him, “I still hurt you…”
Oh, if you could, you would’ve already melted into a puddle. The way Jeonghan looks at you with his big glassy eyes, brimming with guilt and worry, makes you feel some type of way. You can’t help the giggle that bubbles past your lips. “It was only an accident. Now c’mon, make up with Mingyu.”
He opens his mouth to probably smart mouth you but he closes it and just sighs. He brings your hand up to his face and kisses the inside of your wrists, mumbling a defeated, “Okay…” He turns to the younger hybrid and immediately apologizes to which Mingyu accepts just as quickly.
His worried gaze shifts towards Jeonghan, “Are you okay, hyung? You’ve been a little off lately...” Jeonghan simply nods, smiling to make it even more believable but Mingyu, or any of his other friends, doesn’t buy it.
They look at him suspiciously, sharing a few glances, “You’re not in h--” He cuts him off with a firm shake of his head, flashing eyes holding a type of message that apparently only they can understand because you just stand there completely oblivious.
“Jeonghan, stop worrying! It’s not that bad, okay? It’ll heal in no time.” He still pouts despite your efforts and all you could do is sigh in resignation. He kept asking you if any other part of you was hurt on your way back home, he kept apologizing to you and basically did everything for you that required you to use your hands which, in that case, is everything.
His immense care and concern for you, even for something this minor is making you feel butterflies in your stomach, feel completely and so easily disarmed. Chuckling, you reach out to hug his head to your chest. He immediately fixes his position on the arm of the couch, settling you between his legs and circling his arms around your hips.
He looks up at you from that angle, chin resting on your sternum, his ridiculous pout still on his face. You smile softly and stroke his ears. “I honestly don’t know how else to assure you that I’m fine, Jeonghan.” He sighs quietly and closes his eyes. “I’m overreacting, aren’t I?” he mumbles and you giggle, scrunching your nose at him, “A little.” Finally, he cracks a smile, turning his head so he can hear your heartbeat.
“Maybe this is just me wanting your attention?” You laugh, “You have all of it, sir.” Humming in satisfaction, Jeonghan drums his fingers against your hip bones. “Maybe… more of your affection?” You laugh again, “You’re in my arms right now. What more is there?”
And suddenly, the air shifts. Jeonghan’s fingers stop moving. He unwraps his arms around you and grabs your hips instead, squeezing lightly as he looks up. Your smile gradually fades and you blink at how different his eyes are.
From your hips, his hands slowly smoothing down the side of your thighs, the intensity of his gaze keeping you still but pliable. Without a word, he urges you to straddle him and you obediently do so, your hands now on his shoulder to steady yourself.
With one hand holding onto your thigh and the other cupping the back of your neck, the beating inside your chest doubles. You're breathing a little harder, anticipating his next move. He tentatively leans in and you don’t know what came over you but you meet him halfway, pressing your lips against his own.
Jeonghan moans into the kiss, squeezing your thigh and pulling you even closer by the neck. He kisses you hard, fervently and desperately and you do the same, matching his pace perfectly as you snake your arms around his neck.
You both push into each other, wanting to feel so much more. His hands start trailing up and down your back, squeezing at your bum and cupping your breast. You whimper against his lips, running your fingers down his torso but before you can even attempt to go lower, he pulls away and presses his forehead against yours.
He gently grabs your wrists, rubbing small circles on your skin as he whispers, “Your hands…” Breathing heavily from the fiery kiss, you almost scoff at him for what he just said. You couldn’t care less about your fucking hands. Not after what just happened.
“Jeonghan–”
“I’m going to go take a shower”
With his head down, he gently lifts you off of his lap and immediately makes a beeline towards the bathroom. Stunned, you stare at the empty hallway, fingers coming up to your lips. That was definitely real. Either that or your daydreams are starting to feel terrifyingly real.

Chapter 4
[You | 5:41 PM] Is everything ready? We’re already walking to the door!
[Hao | 5:42 PM] Yes, we’re all ready to scare the shit out of him
You laugh and shake your head, a giddy feeling bubbling at the pit of your stomach as you pocket your phone. You try to act clueless again when you belatedly reply to whatever Jeonghan just said. He humphs, still walking ahead and refusing to look at you.
“I’m really gonna be upset with you… I gave you all day and you don’t remember what today is? Like at all?!” You bite back a smile, “No, Jeonghan. I really don’t. Am I supposed to know? Is it important?” You can see his shoulders move as he heaves a deep, disappointed sigh, “Okay, now I really am upset…”
He walks a little faster and gets to the door first, harshly punching in your door code with a ridiculous pout on his face. When he opens the door and switches the lights on, everyone jumps out and gleefully shouts, “Surprise! Happy Birthday, Jeonghan!” You shout out the exact same thing from right behind him, bouncing on the balls of your feet and giggling.
His eyes light up almost immediately. He hasn’t even processed the decorations he’s sure you made when a shower of confetti, party horns sounding out with a mix of everyone’s laughter grabs his attention. His friends don’t even wait for him to come inside and just tackle him while he’s still by the door. Thankfully, you manage to cross the threshold before getting yourself tangled in that mess.
“Fucking assholes! You all said you were busy today!” You hear Jeonghan yell amongst their overlapping voices and you smile to yourself. Minghao and his hybrid, Chan, are in the kitchen helping you with the cake. Minghao lights the candles for you while you carry it and Chan shields the fire with his hand. “Happy birthday to you~” You start singing and everyone else quickly joins in.
The living room is pretty much crowded at this point. Everyone is looking between Jeonghan and his cake but he is looking at you. Your eyes regained their sparkle, stars, entire constellations swimming in your orbs and your smile, finally genuine, as bright and as warm as afternoon sun.
More than your lovely surprise, more than all the people he treasured celebrating his special day with him, he’s just happy that you are happy. He’s more than content and more than grateful, the petty feelings from earlier now nonexistent.
“Make a wish, Jeonghan!” you say, smiling sweetly as you hold the cake out closer to him. He blinks, not even realizing the song is over because he is too busy getting lost in you. “Okay,” he whispers just before clasping his hands together and closing his eyes.
You unconsciously mimic him, your eyes fluttering to close as well. He takes his time and wishes in earnest, wishing not only for himself but for every single one of his friends and of course, for you. Most especially, you. You do the same on your end, hoping the universe hears you out on this one. When you open your eyes, Jeonghan has already blown the candles out.
Everyone claps and cheers for him. “Alright! I bet everyone’s starv– Jeonghan!” You squeal, the male smearing an entire hand full of icing on your face. He laughs hysterically at the way you look, half your face covered in it, so thick you could barely open your left eye.
The others are also bursting out in laughter, running away from the birthday boy when he attempts to attack them too. As you stood there, trying your absolute hardest not to throw his whole damn cake at him, you thought about how you should’ve wished for him to be a little less playful too.
Jeonghan was shy at first when Seokmin suggested that he open all his presents in front of them. He thought it was too childish and really, he was never good with being the center of attention for a long period of time, but with everyone begging him to, especially you with your hands clasped together under your chin and an annoyingly cute pout on your lips, he couldn’t say no.
So here he is, in the middle of a semi-circle surrounded by wrapping paper and all sorts of thoughtful gifts. He doesn’t even spend that much time with Minghao or really speak to him for more than he needed to but even he has given him something that he actually likes and really appreciates.
“Wow, thanks Minghao!” he beams, putting down his new matching sweatsuit. Hao smiles at him in return and gives him the last set of gifts. “Saved the best for last,” he winks and then looks at you teasingly. Your face gets significantly warmer. Oh, god. Why would he say that? You don’t want them to expect since your second gift is really just something you bought on a whim.
Jeonghan shoots you a soft smile before he lifts one of the boxes up to his ear. He gives it a tiny shake, the hybrids’ ears immediately perking up and twitching. “Oh, oh! I think I know what it is!” Seungkwan excitedly says, now kneeling down with his tail wagging behind him. “Hurry, open it!” Seokmin bounces on his bum.
You nibble on your lip anxiously. It’s the one that you’re not so sure about. Hug your knees closer to your chest, you suddenly get worried that Jeonghan might not like it but, as if he's read your mind, he smiles at you reassuringly. As he tears through the wrapping paper, you hold your breath.
“A lego set!”
“Woah, that’s so cool!”
“Oh my god, is that Iron man?!”
You find it cute that all his friends crowded around him trying to get a better look at his gift. They seem to like it a lot but it’s Jeonghan’s reaction that is the most important to you. He’s a lot quieter than the others are but you can see the pure awe and fascination in his eyes as he touches the picture on the box.
And when he looks at you, softening and smiling gratefully, you let out a huge sigh of relief. That’s all you needed. You just smile back at him, motioning for him to open your other gift. This one, you’re absolutely positive he’s going to like. This one, you’re very much excited for him to open.
“Huh… it’s kinda heavy,” he mutters as he moves the box around trying to figure out where he can start taking the wrapping off. He tears right through it like the last one and when he’s met with a mysterious brown box, blank with no trace of a clue whatsoever on it, his brow furrows. He tries to shake it again to make a guess but whatever’s inside doesn’t really make a sound.
He raises an eyebrow your way while you grin from ear to ear, “Go on, open it!” Once he pops the lid open and takes off the styrofoam on top, his eyes bulge out and he gasps. “A brand new soccer ball?!” he exclaims, taking it out with the biggest smile on his face. The lego set his friends was so fascinated by gets ditched as they now take turns holding the ball. “Holy shit, look at this quality! Must be expensive.”
You sheepishly scratch at the back of your head because yes, it is expensive. You don’t mind at all spending that much for Jeonghan but you knew he wouldn’t like the idea. You try to peek at him behind his rowdy friends but he seems distracted by something.
Jeonghan curiously flips the card he saw taped to the inside of the lid. It’s a small card, nothing fancy on it’s design apart from your obvious handwriting and cute little doodles. He lets out a soft chuckle and then opens it.
I love you, little bunny. You saved my life and now I’m eternally grateful for your company.
Jeonghan feels so full and so incredibly warm. He looks up, eyes automatically finding yours and you smile shyly at him, cheeks already starting to feel even warmer. Pushing through his friends, he all but tackles you in a big hug and plants a soft kiss on your pink cheek. “I love you too,” he whispers in your ear.
Slowly, you stir as the sunlight filters through your curtains and hits your face. The beaming light forces you to wake up, cracking open one eye and immediately shielding your face with your hand. You blink a few times to get your eyes to focus and try to reach for your phone on the nightstand but a certain weight stops you from moving.
You look down and realize it’s Jeonghan’s arm, draped over your torso. His fingers are already twitching, a tell-tale sign that he’s about to wake up now too. You try to lift his arm off of you but he whines and only holds you tighter. “Jeonghan,” you softly say, “Hold on, just let me grab my phone.” It takes a good minute or two but eventually, he loosens his grip.
You grab your phone immediately and lay right back down, even putting his arm over your stomach again. You snuggle against him, letting Jeonghan swing his leg over your own and bury his face in your neck. Nonchalantly, you rub the sleep from your eyes and check for any important notifications while Jeonghan nudges your jaw with his nose.
He rubs his cheek on your shoulder, trying to get comfy again since you moving for literally a few seconds disturbed him and now he’s having a hard time going back to sleep. This has definitely become normal for you, Jeonghan sleeping with you and then getting a little fussy when you mess up his sleep even in the slightest.
You never thought this would happen. He’s always slept in his own room, not wanting to be disturbed until he decides to come out himself but now he claims he can’t sleep properly if you’re not next to him. After spending the night in your room on his birthday, the both of you falling asleep building legos, he slowly started to sleep in your room more often.
You, of course, didn’t mind. You actually quite liked it. It feels nice having a warm body next to you as you sleep. In a sense, you felt very secure, like nothing could absolutely hurt you when you sleep in Jeonghan’s arms and not a single nightmare can plague your mind. It just feels more comfortable, more peaceful with him there and he definitely makes you sleep so much better too.
Yawning, you go to your different socials and absentmindedly stroke one of Jeonghan’s fluffy ears. He hums in appreciation. “If you’re trying to wake me up, that’s not going to work. It’s only making me sleepier…” His hot breath on your skin tickles and his voice… his deep and husky sleepy voice is sending tingles down your spine.
You suck in a huge breath, “Well, you don’t have to get up if you don’t want to yet. I just need you to let go so I can start my day. And I’d very much appreciate it if you could do it now.” He brings his face back up to bury his nose in your neck and then he mumbles something incoherent against your skin.
You giggle at the ticklish feeling but even more so, you’re feeling so much warmer than you should. You swallow as discreetly as you possibly can. “Jeonghan,” you whine and try to push him away, “Let me go!” But he tenses his muscles and grips onto your sides. “No,” he so firmly says, his morning voice holding so much power and authority that your mind just haywires.
You try to shake away the thought of finding that insanely hot and try to focus on convincing him to let go, “Jeonghan, please? C’mon!” You wiggle and kick your legs but he doesn’t budge. You’re only met with silence and this time, he's pinning both your legs down with his. “Ugh, please, Jeonghan! Please, please, please?”
Still nothing.
“Jeonghan~ Please, I’m begging you. I have a lot to do today!”
“Hmm... I like you begging.”
You stiffen for a split second. Did you just hear that right? Why does it sound so... You mentally slap yourself. Finding his morning voice attractive was already weird enough, you can’t have your mind in the gutter this fucking early in the morning.
You momentarily zone out unbeknownst to you, Jeonghan’s humming pulling you out of your own thoughts. “Just give me a few more minutes, sweetheart,” he mumbles against your skin, lips grazing your sensitive neck and you blush, “F-Fine… three more minutes…” He shakes his head, “Five.”
“No! Ugh, get off me!” In your attempt to get out of his hold and perhaps to get a hold of yourself too, you end up wrestling him for your freedom. But when he actually uses his strength and pins you down to the mattress, you realize that this isn’t one of your brightest ideas.
The suggestive position you’re in makes your cheeks burst into flames yet you feign innocence, trying to glare up at him. But Jeonghan just raises a curious brow as he looks down at you, liking the view more than he probably should.
“Cute,” Jeonghan wrinkles his nose at you mockingly and smirks, “You think you’re threatening?” And you scoff, “What about you, huh? You think those fluffy ears of yours faze me?” He blinks in surprise, not at all expecting that from you.
But something about your feistiness has his heart beating a little faster, has the twinkle in his eyes darkening, “Sharp tongue you got there, sweetie. You’re hanging out with me too much.” You roll your eyes and squirm underneath him, “Jeonghan, I’m serious. I need to get out of bed now.”
He bites his bottom lip. His mind… is racing. So many. They’re so many things flashing inside his head, images and thoughts that are far from innocent.
Fuck.
Just fuck.
When… How did this happen? Since when did he look at you and think about… wanting to fuck you stupid? He internally groans and snaps himself out of it, getting off of you before he does something he’s not supposed to.
A thick tension fills the air but you ignore it and simply get up. Jeonghan lies on his side, his hungry eyes following you as you walk around the bed to your closet, getting your clothes ready. He doesn’t avert his intense gaze until you’ve disappeared into the bathroom.
The click of the door snaps him back to his senses and he buries his face deep into your plush pillow. He feels bad, horrible for what he’s thinking and what he’s thought but... he can’t seem to help it. Sighing, he decides to catch a few more minutes of sleep.
He rolls over until he’s lying down on his belly and being so distracted with his own thoughts, he doesn’t notice you coming out of the bathroom to grab something you’ve forgotten.
As you pass by to go back, you cheekily tug on his tail to tease him. He jolts up in shock and whips his head to your direction, only to see your back, your cute little giggles fading into the air as you close the bathroom door behind you. Now you had the guts to tease him too. You really are hanging out with him too much.
Shaking his head affectionately, he chuckles under his breath and brings his head back down to your pillow. He takes a deep breath. Why is it that the moment his eyes close, he’s imagining the look on your face when he sinks his cock deep inside of you?

Chapter 3
Hearing the door creak open, you sluggishly turn to it and see Jeonghan poke his head inside your room. “Hey,” he greets you softly, a small, almost sad looking smile on his face. “Hi,” you mumble back with your hoarse voice, lips cracking at the slight movement from how dry they’ve become.
“Minghao and I delivered all the art pieces safely… Your customers loved them. Had nothing but compliments and good words to say.” You can tell from his voice and the look on his face that he is trying to make you feel better, make you crack a tiny smile even or at least see the faintest of light in your eyes but he falls short when all you can muster is a weak and half-assed, “Really? That’s great…”
“Right? I’m so proud and happy for you!” He pretends as if he buys your fake enthusiasm. At least this way, he can get you to talk and hear your voice, even if you almost didn’t sound like yourself right now. “Did you eat yet? Want me to make you something?” You shift a little, ready to turn away from him and at that moment, the smile Jeonghan tried so hard to keep on his face falters. “...’m not hungry.”
“Mmm… okay. Do you… Uhm, would you…” Jeonghan nibbles on his bottom lip, suddenly unsure and hesitant. He doesn’t want to push you to do something you don’t want to but he just really fucking misses you.
Even if you’re living together, he barely sees you anymore. You’ve been holed up in your room for several days now and to this day, he had no idea why or how this even happened. You just... suddenly kept telling him you were tired, every single day spending less and less time with him.
At first, he understood because maybe you really were just tired but now, he doesn’t know anymore. Minghao told him this is normal for you, that you just need a little bit of time and you’d be okay again. But what did that even mean? Time to do what? What’s happening? Jeonghan was confused but he didn’t push any further, his own negative thoughts consuming him.
He had so many more questions in his head. Did he do something wrong? Did you finally have it with him? Did you no longer want him? He’s scared and for once since he started living with you, he genuinely felt sad. He doesn’t want to go back to the shelter.
Even if that place treated him well and was technically his home for years, he preferred to be here. He likes it here, loves it. Here, he truly felt like he was home and he so badly wanted to stay. He so badly wanted to stay here. With you.
“Can…” your weak voice brings him out of his little reverie and he blinks, “Yes? Need anything?” There’s a hopeful lilt in his voice, his eyes bearing the same and it breaks your heart having to say the things that you mean to say. You pause for a moment, swallowing the huge lump in your throat, “..can you turn off the lights when you leave? I– I want to sleep…”
“Oh… Y-Yeah, sure. Uhm... sleep well.” He isn’t able to hide the sadness behind his smile anymore, disappointment painting his face as he reaches for the lightswitch and that is the last thing you see before you’re engulfed in darkness.
When the door closes, that’s when you lose it. You curl into yourself even more, tears streaming down your face as you gasp and whimper. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Jeonghan. I’m s-so sorry,” you whisper through quivering lips.
Behind your door, Jeonghan has his forehead pressed against the wood. He listens to your muffled sobs from the other side and feels as if someone just reached inside of him and ripped his heart out. He hates it. He hates this feeling and he hates what’s happening.
He wants to do something, fling the door open and just scoop you in his arms, comfort you the best that he can and hug all your sadness away but he knows he shouldn’t. Not yet, at least. He fights himself not to do it, gripping the doorknob so tight his knuckles turn white.
“She’ll come around. She’ll tell you when she’s ready. You just have to be a little patient with her,” he repeats what Minghao had told him earlier today. He repeats it over and over again until he’s able to finally let go of the doorknob and leave you alone for now.
“Hyung… you’re going to hurt yourself chewing on your nail like that, stop...” Seungkwan warns him as gently as he possibly can, holding the older male’s hand and setting it down on his lap. He gives Jeonghan’s hand a light squeeze, silently telling him that he’s right here for him, that even if he doesn’t have the right words to say, he is more than willing to listen.
Jeonghan is already on edge and sensitive as it is. He doesn’t want to make him feel even worse than what he’s already feeling. “This is driving me insane…” Jeonghan mumbles under his breath, letting go of Seungkwan just so he can grab a fist full of his hair and tug at it in frustration.
All the other hybrids share worried glances with each other, ears pressed flat on their heads. “Can’t you just… talk to her, hyung? Ask her what’s wrong or if she’s sick?” Mingyu pensively asks, tail hanging down. “Minghao said if she wanted to tell me what was going on, she would. I’m not supposed to force it out of her…”
“But… you can’t just stand by and do nothing. What if she’s hurt or something? She might need you…” Jeonghan tiredly drags his hands from his hair down to his face. Seokmin’s right. He can’t just wait around anymore. He’s so worried he can barely think straight. He has to do something about this.
Heaving a deep but determined sigh, Jeonghan stands up and shoulders his duffel bag, “You guys are right… I-I think I should go. I’m sorry I ruined our game today. I just–” Jihoon cuts him off with a shake of his head and pats him on the shoulder reassuringly, “Hyung, we understand. Just go back home and talk to her, find out what’s wrong.”
Jeonghan could only smile at him weakly. “You could still catch the bus if you leave like, right now.” The older male nods and looks at everyone else, about to apologize again but they all wave him off. “I’ll make it up to you guys some other time, okay? I promise!” he yells over his shoulder, already running towards the bus stop.
Jeonghan bites the inside of his cheeks. The last time he felt this nervous was when he went to the shelter for the first time. He thought his heart would beat out of his chest then and now didn’t feel any different. He’s gotten home for a good five minutes already, his bag already tucked away in his room and really all he has to do is knock but he’s finding even just that extremely difficult.
He paces in front of your door for another minute before he decides to just fuck it and finally knock. It takes a while but you tell him to come in. Carefully, he flicks the lightswitch on first and immediately sees the food he left for you before he went out, still sitting on the same spot, barely touched. His heart sinks to his stomach.
You hear him softly calling your name, the faint sound of his footsteps drawing closer to you under the mess of sheets on your bed. Instead of a reply, he only hears rustling. He tries again, this time sitting on the edge of your bed, his ears pressed even flatter against his head. He waits for you to say something or even just make a sound but you still don’t.
He feels his nose prinkling, “H-Hey, are you okay? Are you sick? Does anything hurt?” When you only respond with a measly hum, Jeonghan gently pulls the covers down to see your face, only to frown when he sees how pale you are, how chapped your lips have become and the dark circles forming under your eyes.
Oh, god. It hurts. Seeing you like this hurts so fucking bad. Jeonghan swallows hard, trying to keep his tears at bay, “Please, talk to me. I’m so worried about you. Please...” Your throat feels like sandpaper, having not drank water in a while and having not spoken a single word.
You open your heavy eyelids and the moment you see Jeonghan’s face, you feel your eyes burn immediately. Only then did you realize just how desperate he sounded, practically begging you to just tell something, anything so he can make sense of what’s happening to you.
The poor thing has to put up with you like this and you hate it. You hated yourself for it. You didn’t like the way his brows furrowed in pure worry and the obviously sad look in his glassy eyes. You hated that this is all because of you.
You try to swallow your tears but you just… can’t. Your tears immediately stream down your face as you shut your eyes, pitifully sobbing into your pillow and unintentionally sending Jeonghan into a panic. His shaky hands reach for your face, wiping your tears with his thumbs, “Hey, hey, hey, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” His voice sounded so broken, like he too is on the verge of crying.
Instead of replying, you cry even harder and his heart just shatters. Without thinking, he pulls the covers off and scoops you into his arms like he’s been wanting to do for so long. You hold onto his shirt for dear life, wetting the material with your tears as he hugs you tight, rubbing your back and so desperately whispering words of comfort into the crown of your head.
You eventually cried yourself to sleep. But the good thing is that you even fell asleep in the first place. Jeonghan stayed with you the entire time, making sure you were, for the most part, okay as you slept in his arms.
“You scared me,” is what he tells you the moment he notices that you are finally awake. “I’m– I’m so sorry…” you get choked up almost immediately, just about ready to burst into tears again but Jeonghan runs his fingers through your hair and shushes you gently. He holds you close, lips ghosting on your forehead.
And you just stay like that for a while, feeling your broken pieces slowly come back together in his warm embrace, a sense of ease finally finding you. When he’s sure you’ve calmed down, he brings his face lower and presses his forehead against your own. His eyes flutter closed as he sucks in a breath. “How are you feeling?” he then whispers, slowly pulling away and opening his eyes to look at you.
Awful is an understatement but that’s really all you can think of right now, so that’s exactly what you tell him. He just nods, pulling you into him again and hugging you tighter, “I’ll make you feel better. I’ll make it go away.” Finally, you wrap your arms around him too, sighing quietly into his chest, your mind feeling a lot less crowded.
As you watch Jeonghan burn his finger again trying his absolute best to cook for you, you’re convinced that he’s an actual angel. One that the universe bestowed upon you in return for always giving you a hard time. He is your little miracle in the guise of a handsome man with painfully adorable floppy ears and an equally adorable tail.
You feel warm all over as you chuckle at him. He’s smiling at you unsuspectingly as if you didn’t just see it all happen in front of you, hastily putting his hand under running water for the second time around. “J-Just a minute, okay? I just need to… Uhh…” You shake your head, hopping off your stool and rounding the counter. “I’ll finish up, Jeonghan. It’s okay. Go take care of that burn.”
He opens his mouth to protest but he decides against it. Grunting in response, he makes his way to grab the first aid kit, bottom lip jutting out into a pout as he carefully puts ointment on his blisters and wraps them up with a gauze bandage. You can tell this has happened multiple times already for him to know exactly what to do and it almost physically pains you to think so.
He must’ve burned himself a lot when you were stuck in your personal hell a few days back. He must’ve been so lost, so taken aback by what happened, by how you treated him. Everything was going so smoothly after all. You’d literally just celebrated three months of him living with you and out of nowhere, your demons came back to haunt you.
Hadn’t you just said you were feeling so much better? So much happier with him around? Clearly, you spoke too soon. How fucking annoying. This is why being happy scares you sometimes because the moment you feel like you’re at your highest, the world just pulls you back down and slams you into the dirt. You should’ve known, should’ve seen this coming.
Maybe then, you could’ve warned him or even just told him about it. Then again, this is something that’s a little sensitive for you and it’s not like you could force yourself to open up about it anyway. “I’m supposed to be cooking for you…” he murmurs through his little pout, snapping you out of your thoughts.
Your eyes refocus and you turn to look at him, your lips unconsciously pulling into a small smile. You expertly toss the fried rice in the pan just as he added a very quiet, “I want to take care of you too.” You almost didn’t catch it because of how softly he said it but you did and you can’t help but melt at his words.
Setting the pan down and turning the heat off, you face him entirely. He’s picking at his bandages and sighing when you suddenly step closer to him, wordlessly hugging his waist. Jeonghan doesn’t think twice about wrapping his own arms around you.
“Hmm? Something wrong?” From his previous whiny tone, his voice softens into something more pacifying and comforting. One of his hands automatically comes up to comb through your hair, his lips ghosting against your forehead, nose in your hair as he inhales your scent. His eyes close in both ease and bliss. You always smell so good, so sweet and warm.
“N-Nothing, it’s just– Jeonghan… I– You–” He hugs you a little tighter when he notices you struggling to get your words out, an obvious lump probably forming in your throat. “If you’re going to apologize again, don’t bother,” he mumbles into your hair before gently pulling away to look you in the eyes.
You stare back, eyes brimming with tears and his heart just instantly aches. “I already told you, right? It’s okay and I forgive you. You don’t even need to apologize.” You search his caramel brown orbs and you see nothing but sincerity in them.
He meant every single word he said but you still can’t shake away how bad you feel, how extremely guilty you are. You made Jeonghan really worried, didn’t take good care of him at all during those times and you made him scared shitless, thinking the absolute worst of the situation.
He didn’t deserve to be left in the dark like that. He didn’t deserve to be hurt because you were being pathetic and miserable on your own. Up until now, he still doesn’t know exactly what happened and yet, he never asked or demanded to know. He says he wants to take care of you too but that’s all he’s been doing lately. He’s been taking care of you more than you’ve been taking care of him.
He’s been so attentive of you and despite still being pretty mischievous, still living off of annoying the shit out of you, when the time calls for it, he knows when to tone it down and listen to you, when to be there for you when you really need him to be.
You’ve been battling this on your own for so long. And now he’s here and suddenly, you actually feel like you can and will get through it when it comes back. You’re a little braver, a little more confident in yourself now and that’s all thanks to him.
Blinking away your tears didn’t work. Because if anything, doing that only made them roll down your cheeks faster. Jeonghan quickly wipes them away with his thumbs. “Shh, it’s alright. I’m here, I’m here,” he whispers, hugging you and stroking your hair. You hug him back tighter, hands fisting the back of his shirt, “I-I know. And I’m so– hic– s-so thankful for that. Thank y-you, Jeonghan. Thank you…”
You feel him nod his head and then he kisses your temple, swaying you from side to side as he continues to pat and stroke your head. “I don’t know if I should be sad or not. You’re so cute. Why are you suddenly being so soft and emotional?” he chuckles and drops another kiss on your temple, lips lingering on your skin.
Your cheeks suddenly feel like they’re on fire, making you bury your face in his chest. “I was jus bin nones… Thans Jeonan. I lov– I m-meam–” He laughs with his body, cutting you off and making your heart flutter at the melodic sound. “What? I have no idea what you just said right now.”
He tries to pull away but you don’t let him. Your face feels so fucking warm you must be as red as a tomato and you can’t let him see you like that! His laugh dies down into a quiet chuckle at the iron grip you have on the back of his shirt and he sighs a soft, contented sigh.

Chapter 2
Three months.
It has been three months since Jeonghan’s been living with you and contrary to how you imagined it in your paranoid head, everything is going perfectly fine.
Surprisingly so, the adjustment period for you both didn’t take as long as you expected. You genuinely thought it’d take about a month tops for you to be completely comfortable with each other, but not even a full week with you and Jeonghan was already walking around the apartment shirtless (which may or may not have made you trip over absolutely nothing from pure shock).
He got more and more talkative with each passing day and became increasingly playful too. He really was shy at first and to be honest, so were you, but once he slipped in some teasing and saw that you took it pretty well, it opened up a whole new world.
Because while Jeonghan’s quite behaved for the most part, he can be cheeky if he really wanted to be, getting in all sorts of mischief the moment you take your eyes off him for more than five minutes.
He loves teasing you. He does it in any shape, way or form that he can, jokes around with you a lot and pulls little pranks to get you panicking here and there. He absolutely lives off of annoying you, so much so that you question if Hao was right about this being good for you.
But if there’s one thing you’re most sure of, it’s that your life is definitely less boring now.
“In here!” you holler, wiping your sweaty brow with the back of your hand. You wipe carefully, trying not to get paint on you this time but… of course you still managed to get some yourself anyway. Great, how did you not notice that the brush is facing you?
You stand from your position on the floor, frowning at yourself just when Jeonghan pokes his head into your small art studio. His hair is mussed, one ear so adorably dangling in the air while the other falls over his face. He blows on it to get it off but when that doesn’t work, he flicks his head instead, making it flop back over his head. You watch him struggle cutely, all your insides threatening to melt.
“Hungry…” he mutters groggily, voice still hoarse from sleep as his head rests on the edge of the door. You sigh wistfully, your almost heart aching at how absolutely endeared you are. You end up just standing there, staring at him, Jeonghan chuckling sleepily at the smudges of paint on your face.
You break eye contact first, smiling to yourself as you carefully step over the commissioned painting you were working on. “Had a good nap?” You reach up to fix his hair a little, giving his ear a gentle stroke and immediately, he leans into your touch, a sigh of content floating past his lips.
“Mhm. I dreamt that we went on a picnic on top of a hill! I watched you paint the scenery. ‘Twas really nice,” he recalls dreamily, eyes closing as you continue to pet his ears. “That does sound nice. Maybe we should actually go one day? Would you like that?” Smiling warmly, Jeonghan nods and rubs his face against your palm.
You giggle, letting go so you can finally make your way to the kitchen. The male follows you. And as you fall in idle conversation, Jeonghan feeling more awake now, he can’t help but stare at you, specifically at the fresh streak of paint on your cheek.
He distractedly hums in response to whatever you just said, wiping off the part of the paint that was still wet. “O-Oh, thank y-- Jeonghan…” He only laughs at you when you give him a deadpanned look. You thought he was trying to clean some of it off but he smeared the excess paint on your other cheek to ‘make it even.’
You shake your head at him and just sigh, used to all his antics by now. As you gather ingredients for his snack, he sits on the counter, legs folded beneath him, chin resting in his palm as he watches you work. “Wanna do something together after I play soccer with the boys?” he randomly asks, making you glance at him.
“Hmm? Like what?” Jeonghan shrugs, “I don’t know. We celebrated that first 2 months of me staying with you so I just thought that… you might want to celebrate again for the 3rd month?” Your eyes widen and you pause from munching on a piece of celery. “Already? Wow…” you whisper, “Time flies by so fast.”
You put the celery back in your mouth, now contemplating what to do. Last month, you took him hiking which he wasn’t particularly fond of. Jeonghan likes and does a fair share of sports but he mostly likes to laze around, preferring activities that don’t require much strain.
Still, he went with you anyway and said he enjoyed it nonetheless. He got to spend time with you and got to know you more, especially when you reached the summit, conversations running deeper than you both expected as you waited for the sun to rise and that was already more than enough for him.
But this time around, you wanted to make it right and do something that he would actually like. Maybe you really should take him out on a picnic? He’s bound to like that, right? But… perhaps you’d have to settle for a less scenic place. You just don’t think you have that much time to prepare everything and go somewhere in the countryside so the local park could probably work.
As you get lost in thought, Jeonghan just gazes upon you softly, a fond smile stretching at his lips without him even noticing. He inwardly chuckles at the way your brows meet in the middle, a small pout on your lips as you think deeply about your plan.
His smile only stretches wider and he suddenly leans in, face directly in front of yours, so incredibly close that you completely freeze and stop breathing at that very moment. He bites off the rest of the celery sticking out of your mouth and steals the plate of snacks you were just making.
Hopping off the countertop, Jeonghan stuffs another piece in his mouth and walks away like he didn’t just make your heart explode. “Just tell me later what you have in mind, okay? I’ll go get ready to meet the boys!”
You only remember to breathe when he’s no longer in sight, slowly chewing the little bit of celery left in your mouth. You place a hand atop your pounding heart and pat down on your chest to calm the little organ down.
“Oh!” Jeonghan suddenly pops back in, making you yelp in surprise. He giggles at your reaction, “Don’t think too hard about it. It doesn’t have to be anything grand. We could just have a movie marathon or something!” He just smiles at you, visibly softening and making your heart beat even faster than it already is. “As long as I’m with you, I’m happy.”
Jeonghan comes home all sweaty, breaths labored as if he ran all the way to your apartment (and maybe he did) but there’s an excited smile on his face. He first sees the little setup in the living room, TV already on, some of his favorite food on the coffee table and blankets and pillows set on the couch before he sees you, dressed in the most adorable pink pajama set he’s ever seen.
“Hey, your-- oof!” You stumble back a little, face buried in Jeonghan’s chest when he all but launches himself at you, “Hi! I missed you! I had fun playing with the boys but I was more excited to come back home. I can’t believe we’re actually having a movie marathon. I can’t wait!” he says in a single breath before hopping off to the bathroom, his cute little tail twitching behind him.
It all happened so fast. You couldn’t even put a word in and all you could do was blink, giving yourself a minute or two to process what just happened. Chuckling in amusement, you walk back down the hall to tell Jeonghan you bought him matching pajamas as a gift and that it’s on his bed if he wants to wear it.
Then you go back to the living room, readying the first movie and making yourself comfomrotable on the couch. You sink yourself deep in the cushioned seat, a fluffy blanket wrapped around you. Letting out a relaxed and satisfied sigh, you patiently wait for Jeonghan.
Your eyelids have become significantly heavier and you’re basically fighting to keep them open when Jeonghan suddenly goes, “Okay, okay, I’m done! Let’s go watch!” He immediately snatches the remote from the coffee table and plays the movie, plopping down next to you on the couch.
He’s wearing the exact same pajamas as you, just not in the same color and he apparently didn’t bother to dry his hair, the tips still dripping. There is another blanket on the couch and it’s literally right next to him but instead of using that, he tugs on yours. You bury half your face into the fluffy material and hold onto it tight.
You open your mouth, about to give him a mild scolding for not drying his hair and trying to steal your blanket but with the way he looks at you, eyes glimmering innocently and ears twitching with excitement, your mouth closes back up in defeat.
Just… Why does he have to be the cutest thing ever? It’s so unfair. Sighing, you surrender your blanket to him and reach over to help him dry his hair.
Once you’ve both settled down, you don’t talk or even glance at each other. You both eat slowly, too engrossed in the movie playing to focus on your food. But somehow, you didn’t know when or how, he ended up sitting on the small space between you and the arm of the couch, legs over your lap and cheek leaning against your head.
He serves as your blanket, wrapping you in his warmth while he pulls the actual blanket over himself, half of it now on the floor. You can’t help but chuckle as you mindlessly draw patterns on his thigh. He probably moved so much to get to this position and you’re not even sure if it’s comfortable for him.
“What?” he whispers, as if talking any louder would disrupt the movie. You lightly shake your head, “Nothing. It’s just…” You chuckle to yourself once more, “You do know you’re bigger than me, right? I’m kind of getting squished.” You scrunch your nose at him and Jeonghan instantly puts his bowl of strawberries down on his lap.
He looks at you worriedly, “Sorry, are you uncomfortable? Want to be on top?” The small smile you have on your face flattens and you mentally slap yourself for thinking of something inappropriate at a time like this. You avoid his eyes and clear your throat, “N-No, it’s fine…”
He looks at you a moment longer and you wonder if he sees right through you. Fuck, he must think your some pervert. Why did your brain just… go there like that? Nervous, you randomly steal a strawberry from his bowl and stuff it into your mouth.
It protrudes from inside your pink dusted cheek and Jeonghan internally screams at how cute you look. Not being able to help himself, he plants a small peck on your strawberry filled cheek.
“Thanks,” he whispers again, face still too close, warm breath fanning the side of your face, “For giving me a home, a real one and... for everything really.”
When he looks back at the screen, head on the backrest this time, only then did you notice you were holding your breath. You try to exhale as discreetly as you can, slowly chewing the fruit in your mouth, your stomach feeling all warm and fuzzy all of a sudden.
You stare at the screen before you but you’re not exactly watching the film anymore. Instead, you think. You get lost in your thoughts again, slowly feeling your heart swell inside of you.
You’re definitely feeling better, feeling less lonely and much happier these days because of Jeonghan. So maybe Hao actually was right after all. Maybe this really is good for you. Jeonghan… He’s good for you.

Chapter 1
“You need a companion!”
“No, I fucking don’t!”
You’re pissed, brows furrowed angrily, gripping your phone a little tighter than you should be. You just don’t fucking get it. You and your best friend were just catching up with each other, talking about random things, then he so casually says, “Oh, by the way, I got you a hybrid!”
A what? What the fuck has gotten into him? Why’d he make such a random decision? And without consulting you about it too!
“Well, I already adopted him under your name. You don’t have a choice!” You could only groan. “Gee, thanks a lot, best friend. So nice of you to make decisions for me.” Hao says your name in warning and you roll your eyes even if he can’t see, “I just-- Why would you do that? I literally killed the cactus you gave me a few months ago... How do you expect me to take care of a whole hybrid?!”
“You can, okay? This’ll be good for you!”
Good for you? You have no idea what he’s talking about. How the fuck is giving you more responsibility going to be good for you?
“Doubt it.”
“Just--”
Minghao pauses and sucks in a deep breath. He’s usually a very calm and level-headed person but you really do test his patience sometimes. Clearing his throat, he tries again in a softer voice, “Just start cleaning up now so your place will be ready for tomorrow, alright? We’ll probably get there just in time for lunch.”
You groan again and cross your arms over your chest, phone haphazardly placed between your shoulder and ear, “Whatever. I’m hanging up.” And you do, hearing him shout, “Clean!” into the receiver before you let your phone drop onto your couch.
Your head whips around your unruly living room, which is definitely not the only part of your apartment that is a total mess right now. No, you’re not a total slob. In fact, cleaning is one of the things you do to relieve stress. It’s just that you haven’t been feeling the best lately so your home has been neglected.
A sense of dread floods your system, urging you to heave a deep sigh.
Cleaning your entire place is one thing but your best friend’s little news for you is a completely different story, a completely different headache. Stupid Hao and his stupid attempt to help you feel better. You appreciate his concern for you, you really do, but you don’t understand the need to bring someone in your life so suddenly like this.
“You need a companion,” he said.
“It’ll be good for you,” he said.
Bullshit.
You hate him so much right now you can’t even begin to describe it! But still... you no longer have a choice. It’s not like you can turn the hybrid down and send him back to the shelter. You don’t have the heart to do that...
Defeated, you lift your butt off the couch, scanning the area once again as roll your sleeves up to your elbows and try to figure out where the fuck you were even going to start.
The next day, you wake up feeling grumpy and uneasy at the exact same time, the two clashing emotions creating an uncomfortable whirlpool inside of you. You’re still pissed at your best friend for randomly getting you a fucking hybrid (you don’t even know what kind yet) but you’re also nervous as fuck about actually meeting them.
Just the thought of sharing the same roof with a living being again makes your palms all sweaty. You’ve lived alone for so long you’ve forgotten what it’s like to have someone else around the house. Or more accurately, you’ve just been so used to being alone; period.
You barely talk or socialize with anyone unless it’s work-related or if it’s Minghao so you don’t quite know how you’re going to adjust to all this. “It’ll be fine! No big deal. You’ve had roommates before. It’s fine…” you mumble to yourself, looking at the mirror saying one thing but thinking another, wringing your hands.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Click.
“We’re here!” You let out a tiny yelp at Minghao’s volume. You can hear him lugging something heavy into your apartment, followed by a small thud of another something being dropped on your coffee table. “Shit! Okay, uhm...” Fidgeting with your clothes and hair one last time, you finally leave your bedroom.
“You can set that in the corner over the– Oh, hey!” Hao sends you a bright smile the moment he sees your head poking out the corner. He automatically opens his arms, meeting you halfway to give you a big hug.
You smile right back at him and wrap your arms around him tightly. You want to cry. You want to just stand there and never let your best friend go because as much as you hate to admit it, you missed him so, so much, way more than you expected.
After what you’ve been through a couple days back, his embrace meant the absolute world and you had no idea you needed it until this very moment. Everything you felt prior, the annoyance, the nerves and doubts, seemed to just evaporate into thin air.
“It’s so good to see you, Hao,” you mumble, eyes closing to savor his warmth and comfort. “You too, missy. I’m sorry I can’t visit often...” he mumbles back, hugging you a little tighter. There’s a few beats of silence between you but it’s filled with quiet affection and solace.
Gently, you pat his back and pull away, giving his arms a light squeeze as a way to silently assure him that it’s okay. He sighs, nodding before turning around, “Come over here, Han. Lemme introduce you to your new owner.”
Oh, right… You almost forgot what he’s actually here for.
You unconsciously gulp as you shift your eyes to look at the figure by the door, your new hybrid companion offering you a timid smile the moment your eyes lock. He takes a few steps closer, a box of his belongings in arms. You try to reciprocate his smile but you’re too in your head to actually do it, a whole epiphany unfolding before you.
He’s literally just... a guy with some physical features of his animal counterpart, some dude with floppy bunny ears slack against his head. His bright yet naturally droopy eyes stare into yours, dancing at the sight of you.
“This is Jeonghan, your new bunny hybrid!”
You can’t exactly see it but his tail raises happily behind him at the introduction. “Hi,” he murmurs, giving you a small wave with his adorable sweater paw. You’re not processing much right now but one thing’s for sure: he’s fucking adorable. You actually want to squeal.
He walks further into your home and sets the box he’s holding to the side while you pull yourself together enough to dumbly stutter out your name. He repeats in a soft voice, nn angelic smile tugging on his face.
