6 Sentence Sunday- Dark Hanahaki AU

Initially inspired by this post, thank you to @sweetlikesunflowersandhoney for pointing this out as a dark version of the Hanahaki trope and brainstorming with me!

Xunami’s face shifting to sympathy broke Mirage’s heart before she even spoke. 

“I’m flattered, honestly. You’re one of my closest friends, and that’s how I want us to keep it. You’re amazing, Miri. I know there’s another person out there that’s going to see it too.”

“Oh, um..okay.” Mirage stuttered out as she awkwardly fumbled with the hem of her shirt.

That’s not how Xunami was supposed to respond. She was supposed to agree to the date and then Mirage would be in love and happy and not be coughing up flower petals every day.

“I’m sorry, I don’t want to ruin what we already have.” Xunami said sympathetically. “But I’ll always consider you one of my best friends.” 

Mirage kept her tears at bay as she wished Xunami a good night. She couldn’t watch her walk away, instead, she ran back inside the bar.
