I found you through Epic the Musical animations, and I love your monster design for the cyclops! How do you come up with interesting character designs like that? Yours is like the only really unique cyclops I've seen.

I was bored of the classic interpretation, plus wanted something that fits EPIC’s fantasy theme, and something that foreshadows that Polyphemus is Poseidon’s child. So the idea of the hooves came to me quickly. For the head my concept was that I wanted something unnatural or rare to find in nature (can be found mostly just in plants) thus the vertical eye and mouth, and the skin layer that opens like a venus flytrap. For the rest I kind of just let my hand and subconscious do its job while keeping in mind that I must be as far as classic designs as possible. Since you have to know the rules before you break them.

It was definitely a gamble, 50-50 chance whether people would like it or not. But I’d rather create something I like than deny myself and appeal to others (unless they commission me or I’m in a group project)

Suggest names to my little beaver-wolf-eagle-somehornedanimal hybrid! 😆 In the last few days I decided to rebrand my Patreon (while it’s still small) to be more connected to this creature, and I was wondering if you guys had a name for it? It can be real, fantasy, serious or silly. The more there are the funner it will be.

I will choose three favourite (if there will be enough names lol) and make a little poll of it ^^

I came to a conclusion that I kind of hate my own art style. So I will disappear for a while probably to forge a new one that will hopefully make me fall in love with drawing again 🫡

I have a question I want to ask to some artists! How do you feel about fans making money by showing your Epic animatics in theaters? Your animatics often are in the projections and many earn a lot of money by showing them. An Argentinian artist earned around $1.000 for themself by making an projection (not including the theaters rental), some projections usually give credits at the end, but others don't. So I want to know how you feel.

Makes me feel like I have been stolen from. Intellectual property is just as property as a carriage, a book, a carved wooden statue etc… If you make money of someone’s more than HUNDREDS HOURS OF WORK a simple credit does not solve everything. At least not for me. If someone wants to show the work of an artist for profit the LEAST is to ask them if they are okay with it and whether they want compansation. For the person’s own sake, because it can draw legal actions from the original artist’s side and that Argentinian artist is lucky that you mentioned them anonymously.

I personally always allow fans to include my works in for example compilations if they mention there is no profit of it. People are allowed to have fun unless they cause harm to others.

About what you mention in your question I feel especially unsurprised and if possible even more disappointed. With a friend of mine just some weeks ago we joked about how EPIC became the capitalism of art (when it comes to animatics), and sadly this is making this joke be less of a joke…

The fact that beginner artists/animatic makers have to apologise in the captions that their work is not as good as X artist’s who’s been at it for a decade already, is heartbreaking. And this happens because how fans (especially on TikTok) treat artists. Never before have I seen this much comparison among artists by fans.

In the EPIC fandom artists became products. And I yearn for someone to show me this is not true.

Helloooo there first i want to say how much i adore your artstyle and the way you draw Odysseus!!! Although i have a question, how do you draw more muscular/beefy bodytype? Any tips?

My best advice is to learn anatomy for both man and woman body and learn how muscles work in general (for me too learning is still a progress that started in the last few months thanks to friends of mine)

You have an easier job with muscles because they are very similar in every body (not like fat that folds different on every individual)

Don’t be afraid to use references in the beginning (it’s not cheating, it’s learning and creating muscle memory)

In case you want to draw realistically, and pleasing looking muscles, you can achieve that if you “add” a certain amount of fat on them. And remember that natural muscles, unless flexed, they aren’t perfectly visible.

Even if you want to style the anatomy you draw, first you need to learn the basics for that too. (An advice @simoondraws gave to me)

I was wondering about one thing - how does being popular in the fandom/liked by people here make you feel? I mean, is that annoying or maybe more heartwarming? Did you want it when you first started animating? And when people want to befriend you do you feel bad about it/tired of it or maybe you are happy about it (or something totally else)? I'm just curious, if you don't want to answer, you don't have to, obviously!

Oh, these are some interesting questions that I have never really considered before, hmm…

I definitely didn’t do my first EPIC animatic to become popular, I never thought it would become popular, let alone lead to working with Jorge later. Until now I was used to that my works don’t get much attention, and I just accepted that. If twenty, thirty, at top fifty people see them, that’s already a huge success for me even now. What heartwarming is when people freak out when I pop in the EPIC discord server chats now and then, although those times I freak out as well because I’m always surprised someone recognises me ahaha. Or when I see people discuss what they like about my works BUT reading reasonable, constructive critisism is also very much appreciated and welcome.

When the fandom was smaller I made some good friends, and keep contact with them even today. Nowadays not many want to befriend me, though there is a bunch of EPIC and other artists who’ve been brought together about half a year ago to play gartic phone (I’ll always be deeply grateful to you @abandoned-raccoon ) and that group works like a found family now😂

If fans tried to reach out to me to befriend me, however, even if not annoying, it would definitely be overwhelming. Therefore, I am standoff-ish when it happens. Especially because on the internet one can never know the true intention of another.

Have you considered changing the music from the old soundtracks to the new ones on your epic animatics? No pressure to do so of course but I was just caught off guard hearing the old tracks again

Yes, I’ve been planning it for quite a time now to reupload the animatics with the new versions (because YT doesn’t let me change just the audio)

But I also want to do slight changes in them, like adding Ody’s scar on his thigh, some expression fixes, changing that freaking apple at the end of Open Arm/beginning of WoTM to a fig or something

And these changes take time, given especially now when my motivation to do stuff is very impulsive
